OK, the draft order has been set. Myself, along with NBA Commissioner David Stern, pulled envelopes out of a giant hopper to choose the draft order, and it's my proud honor to announce that the No. 1 pick in the draft has gone to...
The New York Knicks? What the fuck? Damn it, it was rigged again!
Seriously, the draft order is listed below, selected in a totally random order:
1. Ultimate7
2. ShitPaw
3. defen
4. fknmclane
5. BeefMaster
6. fightonusc
7. GreatScott
8. TeddyBallGame
So, Ultimate7 is on the clock. He has 24 hours to make his selection from now. ShitPaw is on deck, and will have 24 hours from the time Ultimate7 makes his selection. And so on. If you know you're not going to be on the board for an extended period of time and your turn might come up, you can PM me with some proxy selections to make if you aren't available. Otherwise, after your 24 hours are up, you will be skipped. And feel free to make picks much faster than every 24 hours.
Good luck to everyone!

This is where we draft - just write in the guy's name, and fightonusc will magically take care of the rest.

I'm sorry poolstroke, but this is just hilarious, I want to know what you were trying to do.
*LOL*
still laughing
sorry, ok im done.
OK, so I've got poolstroke down for Eric Davis (and apologies on screwing up your handle). As you can see, I've added him to the draft board, and your own personal draft list (which also has how many of each position you've drafted).
And by proxy, fcknmclane selects Darrel Evans. This puts BeefMaster up and me on deck.
And for reference, Look at ShitPaw's post here (http://forums.dee-nee.com/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=3398;start=15) for if a bench player is considered an OF, IF or C...

Kent Hrbek #2
For my second round choice, the Creamy Pirates select the Captain, Dale Murphy
BeefMaster is now up.
Fantasy RBI Season 1 MVP Don Baylor.
And fknmclane takes Chili Willie Davis with his second round selection.
poolstroke is on the clock.
Kirk Gibson
Mike Schmidt
Will Clark
Gary Gaetti
Ellis "Tim" Burks
My 3rd round pick is my secret weapon Tim Raines.
Fatty Fat Fat Nokes...bitches
My team name is The Poopydicks
fknmclane has triggered a run on catchers - the Unholy Legions of Doom choose Gary Carter.
Wally Joyner
OK, GreatScott just drafted out of turn. Now, I wasn't picking Wally World anyway with my next pick, so it's neither here nor there. But don't let it happen again, or else the commissioner's office will enforce a heavy penalty.
The Creamy Pirates select Tom Brookens. TeddyBallGame is up for two picks, followed by that lousy cheater GreatScott.
A point of clarification...
I would like to point out that if you are using Gantry's team profiles, there is at least one error. For Houston, both Glenn Davis and Billy Hatcher are listed at RF. In fact, Glenn Davis was 1B for Houston, both in real life and according to the RBI Baseball manual. So, Glenn Davis is considered an IF for our purposes.
Don Mattingly, Rich Gedman
You dicks let Mattingly slip this late??! ???
GreatScott has until 11:38 AM PFT (Pacific Forum Time) to make his selection. Otherwise, he will be skipped and the draft will proceed to the next person in line (me).
I'm anxious to get his pick out of the way, but doesn't he have until 1:38?
I am looking at from when TeddyBallGame made his selection, and it was according to my computer at 11:38 AM Pacific Time. Adjust your clocks accordingly to your time zone, and whether or not you live in some sort of fucked up county where you don't believe in daylight savings time.
One change to the position of a bench players (thanks to TeddyBallGame to alerting me to this)...
John Kruk has been moved from OF to IF (the game's stats are from 1987, and he played the majority of his games that season at 1B).
Please adjust yourself accordingly.

He originally put Jack Clark, then modified
No modifications are allowed. The selection as posted on the official board was Jack Clark, and that is final.
sounds fair
Who's up? Beef?
yep
I hereby make Glenn Davis the first Astro chosen.
This is a tough pick. There's still plenty to choose from but I'm going with...Rupperto.
ok thats fine ... but i made my modification before anyone chose another guy. i dont see how that is unfair to anyone but ok whatever. its all for fun anyway
I don't think anyone's calling shenangans on it, GS, but it sets a bad precedent to let someone change picks after they are posted.
poolstroke72: Alan Trammell
ShitPaw: Tony Armas
Did poolstroke send you his picks, ShitPaw?
OK, I am suspending the dradr until Monday morning, when I we can try to all get online during the afternoon and plow through a bunch of picks. I am allowing ShitPaw to keep Tony Armas, since poolstroke was skipped by exceeding 24 hours. However, poolstroke does not automatically get Alan Trammel.
If I don't hear from poolstroke by Monday, I am going to assume that he is forfeiting his team from the league. And there had better be a damned good explanation as to why he didn't show up to make any picks or send proxy picks my way. If he forfeits his team, I am willing to let someone else who would be interested jump in and take over his team (which hasn't been drafted that badly, BTW). Either that, or we just continue to draft the best available player for that team, and play it as a league-controlled franchise (i.e. the Expos) to fill out the league.
Can we put all of poolstroke72's picks back in the pool?
12:00 Forum Time... Get ready to Draft!
Maybe someone else would just want to take over poolstroke's team, and we could just continue from where we left off.
true, but if nobody picks up the team..
I'll take it over if he bails.
OK, fuck poolstroke. I am pissed off about this whole situation, and I feel like I have to share a good portion of the responsibility here. How many times did I say that if you weren't willing to make the commitment to show up and participate in the draft, that you shouldn't bother to sign up, because it was just going to bog things down and kill the buzz for other people? Several times, I think. Yet, we still have this situation. And I had a feeling about exactly what was going to happen, and didn't stop it.
(My only caveat is that perhaps poolstroke had some sort of unavoidable emergency or personal tragedy to deal with. In which case, I take back all of the horrible things that I wrote but then deleted out of common decency.)
So, if anyone wants to take over poolstroke's team who is not otherwise participating in the draft, please let me know. It's going to be held over on a first-come, first-serve basis, but I'm going to reserve the right to approve you based on if I think you're trustworthy and capable enough (i.e. not a ridiculously massive flake) to pull this off.
I'm going to give an hour or so for someone who wants to participate to throw their hat into the ring; otherwise, I'm going to autodraft for that team. The picks will be based on filling his starting line-up with the best available players needed to fill those spots (we will fill the four pitcher positions only after the eight offensive positions are filled. Batter rankings will be based on power numbers, and pitcher rankings will be based on the highest available pitcher based on ranking in three stat categories - fastball speed, total curve (CL + CR / 2) and drop rating.
Let's do this.
Looks like defen is willing to take over for the stroke. I just wanna get the games going so The Poopydicks can dominate all comers.
Let's have a moment of silence for poolstroke72 and his credibility...
OK, draft on.

BTW - fightonusc is doing a great job, and all blame goes to poolstroke72.
Whether or not something happened to him, his absence is the reason for the delay; not anything fightonusc has done with the format.
EDIT: fknmclane is hereby declared the biggest idiot on dee nee. If a pick must be forfeited due to my stupidity I will not fight it. I plead guilty to all charges.

Agreed, all blame goes to the stroker. Let's get week 2 of the draft going. Shit, I thought the MLB amateur draft took a long time...
Mcclane, each round is a complete flip of the previous round
OK, I completely agree with adding defen. Sir, you are in, and you're taking over poolstroke''s team (I've gone ahead and swapped names out on the two main draft boards. defen is up to pick (I'm letting ShitPaw keep Tony Armas, since that was the last pick before the draft was suspended on Friday. After that, we'll continue to move down the list as previously planned.
I appreciate everyone's kind words. It's more that I absolutely knew that poolstroke was going to be a complete flake, but I let him participate because I didn't want to be the bad guy and not let him play just because I had a bad feeling about him. Live and learn, and trust your instincts, I guess.
GAME ON!!!
Just to show you guys how much time this has cost us...
Season I draft - 3 days
Season II draft - 5 days
Trammell is cool with me. Let's get this bitch going.
I've picked Armas, so it's ultimate7.
Tom Brunansky
Bill Madlock
Damn, I wanted Trammel, can't we have someone besides defen make that pick.
Dwight Evans
I'll take I'm Keith Hernandez.
Sorry I've had to catch up on all the picks.
Chet Lemon...upon doing some dee nee research, I found that Chet has far better number than I thought and better than certain All-Stars I thought of picking. Is this my third Tiger? Damn...
I moved the draft board and team listings over to another thread, to make it easier for you guys to access and for me to update as we move forward.
BeefMaster is up...
Dick Schofield. I can't believe I just typed that.
Cal Ripken, Jr.
OK, I'm heading off to lunch right now. If he hasn't made a pick in one hour from now (12:30 p.m. Pacific time), I'm considering GreatScott to be skipped. It was made clear that we would be drafting on Monday (today), and I read a quote from him that basically, we should just start skipping people and it wasn't the end of the world if you get skipped a couple of times.
So, I'll take his word for it. Still, he's got one hour to get a pick or proxy picks to me.
I'm not sure that is fair, I don't think we ever really set a time in stone. We gave poolstroke 4 days, and now GreatScott missed for 2 hours and we screw him? I'd say wait a little longer. Hopefully he shows up soon.

I don't understand it either. I would have grabbed him in round 2 or 3 if I was drafting, but I would have also picked Potatoes, but I was handicapped by poolstroke's picks.

Big difference in this draft, JoeDirt - we're not going with individual positions; instead, we're just requiring 4 IFs and 3 OFs. Trammel's relatively average power makes guys like Hrbek, Gaetti, and Decinces better picks, since you don't need a shortstop. I'm kinda pissed at myself for picking Glenn Davis over him a round ago, though; the speed probably makes up for the 30-point power difference.
and I picked him for someone else... damn
I just like calling you guys dicks, since I wanted in the league but it was full.
Believe me, I would have grabbed him anyway. Now if only I can get a Red Sox guy away from you...

Since we all agreed to get this on track on Monday, and with the quote above, I think GreatScott would agree to move on without him until he gets here.
are we going to skip TeddyBallgame too?
the 6 of us have bene here prety much all day
No, he proxied me his next two picks. TeddyBallGame selects Dwight Gooden and Lou Whitaker.
GS is up next, then me. I'm going to need to few minutes to make my pick, so I'll give GS a little more time to make his picks before I go.

We're actually skipping his picks and not doing a "best player available" type of thing for him? When will he get those picks back?
This is tricky. Quick advice - if you were him, would you rather that we take the best players available for him, or skip him, and he would get his picks back whenever he shows back up (which could mean that his 5th and 6th picks may get pushed back for several rounds)?
I think if I were him I would just want best available but who knows.
It's gotta be best available. Let's say we bang out the rest of the draft today (not going to happen I'm sure, but you never know) and he isn't here at all. We will have picked pretty much every player and he'll fill the rest of his roster, about 10 guys with the dregs of RBI. Doesn't seem right.
The other issue is that TeddyBallGame only gave me proxy selections for those two picks, so we're going to run into a roadblock once we snake back to him again...
>:(
I can't say enough about proxy picks - trust me, I will not compromise the integrity of the draft as commissioner by having these picks.
I'll wait a little while longer, then we'll make a decision.
I vote that if they're not here, and even if proxies were not sent it, we get them the best available player, non-pitcher.
I also have to agree with the best availab le players. otherwise he's fucked especeilly the pitchers.
are you going to pick pitchers for him?
I think what would be done is to select non-pitchers until their starting eight position players are filled out, and then fill their pitching staffs. I've broken down the how the pitchers rate by fastball speed, total curve (adding both right and left curve) and drop rating and averaged the three scores to get a rough idea of total value. I would use this to draft pitchers for someone if needed.
I'd just assume make picks up until Teddy's next pick then wait for Teddy and Great Scott to pick who they want (assuming they'll be on before some time tomorrow by noon). Even though this idea is least advantageous to me.
Edit, forget about the least advantageous to me comment, I though Teddy picked right before me.
Quote from: ultimate7 on 10/04/04, 02:51:41 PM

I agree that this seems to be the best way to go at this point. I don't want to punish people too badly, but at the same time, I don't want to slow things down too much either.
So, we'll skip GS for now, and if we get back to GS's next pick today, I say we just stop and wait until tomorrow and let him catch up.
I'll select Kevin Mitchell.

John Tudor, the pick so nice that it was made twice...
I'm gonna pick myself this time; give me a couple minutes to review the current situation.
I go to the trouble of making that last post, and I pick the next guy on my proxy list anyway.
George Brett
And I'll select Mike Krukow.
With that, I say we hold off until tomorrow and give GreatScott a chance to catch up and let TeddyBallGame either be here tomorrow or get proxy picks to me. GreatScott can make his three picks (round 5 and 6 plus this round) at any time. Until we hear from him, let's put it on ice for a little while.
speak of the devil and he shall appear
dang guys, i actually have to work for once and then the draft almost passes me by
what round are we in? i have until 3:00 pacific
Well, I guess it worked out pretty well after all. Although, to be fair, we were going to put the brakes on the draft before it got to you.
I hope the proxy picks were OK with you.
So has the draft officially been called for the day?
I cannot be on all day again tomorrow. The only reason I was on here before 12:30 my time was because my little girl stayed home sick today and I had to miss class. I have class all morning and then work all night, so I won't be able to participate tomorrow.
I'll be more than happy to PM my proxy picks for the rest of the draft to usc if you guys wanna finish up tomorrow. I can be on Wednesday afternoon, Phoenix time otherwise.
OK, we've got 7 of the 8 here. This is going to be our last best chance to plow through the draft for a while. I think we all agreed to try and be around Monday to make our picks, correct? I'm not trying to be a dick to GreatScott here, but since I think that was somewhat well established, and he's not here, I have no problem picking best available players for him the rest of the way so we can get our draft completed.
I don't feel great about this option, but does anyone object to it?
who has the next pick and what round are we on?
let's go
Okay, let's draft. Bitches...
OK, so I'm going to draft to fill up GreatScott's team with the best available non-pitchers to complete his starting eight. Then, I get his four pitchers, and finally the bench.
So, give me a second to get his three picks selected, and then I'll post them. After that, it's TeddyBallGame's turn (the draft board has been moved to a separate thread in the RBI Forum, BTW, Teddy).
OK, GreatScott selects Brian Downing, Harry Spilman and Bob Brenly. TeddyBallGame is now up for two picks...
We select Cal Ripken, and Terry Pendleton
I took Cal Ripken in Round 5. Go ahead and make another selection.
ripken was taken, i'll take boggs, please
Then HoJo for GreatScott?
Actually, I'm going to give him Bobby Grich instead. Same power, but better contact (although HoJo is faster). If anyone disagrees, let me know now, and I can make speed the tiebreaker instead of contact.
And I'll select George Hendrick.
I'm taking off from work in ~15 minutes, and I won't be able to be on this evening. fightonusc, I believe my proxy list is accurate enough for current purposes, if you want to just work from that. It goes deep enough that it should get you through a decent portion of the draft... if not, I have no problem with you skipping me for a round or two; by that point, we'll be to the dregs of the league anyway, and the choice of Jose Oquendo or Spike Owen isn't that big a deal to me.
no that's fine
I still have time to pick today... give me a minute...
Spilman!

Bobby Ojeda is my last pick. I'm the only one who still needs an SP, so I can just post it here.
I select Lenny Dykstra.
GreatScott selects Dickie Thon.
TeddyBallGame is up for his final pick.
Ojeda is gone
Yes, Bobby Ojeda is selected by GreatScott, so to speak.
The next highest rated SP is Rick Sutcliffe. I'll give BM him for right now, but he can replace him with another SP at any time.
doesn't affect picks made after - he can pick whatever SP is still available
we pick don king, and kevin seitzer..... happy picking boys!
Like I said, I'll have Sutcliffe in there as a temporary measure, but he can swap him for another SP.
fighton.. on the draft board you have beef as picking molitor, but he wanted gene larkin.... this didn't effect my pick, though
Refresh the page, it should have changed now.
So, you've got Eric King and Kevin Seitzer. And you are the first to finish. You win a pencil.
OK,a bunch of picks here...
GreatScott - Stinky Sullivan
fightonusc - Jose Cruz
BeefMaster - SP TBD
fknmclane - Todd Worrell
defen - Tom Herr
ShitPaw - Rafael Santana
and with the last pick, ultimate 7 selects....
*drumroll*
I'll give Ultimate7 the distinction of making the last official selection in the draft.
Ack. I had Ojeda and Bruce Hurst picked out, and I apparently did a text search for only Hurst (I thought I'd looked for both). I'll take Hurst instead.
At least I didn't slow up the draft this time...
way to go beef - damn foreigners (aliens)
OK, since he's not answering the bell, I'm taking the best available player for Ultimate7: Robby Thompson.
And so concludes (finally) the draft.
you should rename this thread "Fantasy RBI League Official Draft Thread and Official Tits and Beer Thread" and see if it becomes dee-nee's most popular thread.
OK, the draft is over. Please make sure to review your draft rosters to make sure that all errors have been fixed.
Please feel free to orchestrate any trades or free agent pick ups that you want (PM me to to let know that you're signing a free agent, and who you are dropping).
It will take me a little while to recover from the draft. I'm shooting to have the first games played next week - let me know if anyone feels they need more time.
OK, if you guys could actually do one thing for me...before you start trading and dropping/adding players, go ahead and set a starting line-up for me (hitters No. 1 through 8, the order of your bench players, and your pitching rotation). I'm going to let you decide if you want a reliever to start the game for you...keep in mind that in watch mode, the order goes 1-2-3-4, and I don't know if the computer is smart enough to pull a reliever who is starting the game if they get tired in the second inning.
Basically, get your batting orders and pitching rotations to me ASAP so I can begin building the preseason ROM.
