Title: RBI 2004 Teams!!!
Post by: Scroope on 10/04/04, 05:25:25 PM
This is a rom I made right after the 2004 MLB season ended.  All 8 of the playoff teams are present with 2004 regular season stats and appropriate power.  The 2 All Star Teams use the stats as of the All STar Break, but have appropriate power.  Enjoy! Let me know what you think.  This ROM is the fixed version.  No More problems with era or pitching hitting ability.  Womack fixed..

This is my first version of the 2004 ROM with some extra homerun power.  Its fun, but if you want a more realistic version try the first post.

the only problem I have is that the pitchers have 0 speed and 0 power.

the power glitch sometimes puts a fair ball into the stands, where you can't field it.  because the pitcher can't go anywhere, you're game is ruined.

otherwise, a very nice rom

The original message now has the corrected ROM.

It's not bad, good job on it. :)

But as luck would have it, I've been working on a ROM as well, which I'll have out tomorrow.

Just played a 5-inning game Scroope, good work!  Minnesota takes down Boston thanks to the pitching of Santana....

One suggestion I have is to make the team abbrevations a capital letter then a lower case letter like in standard RBI.  For example Bo[/] for Boston instead of BO[/].  Very hard to read the team selection screen because the letters all blend together.   But good work...

Hey, Jerry.  A few nitpicks from playing a Twins Yankees game and looking at the ratings:

The Twins don't have any uniforms that look like that (I can understand your problems, though, with everyone these days being blue and red).

Radke and Santana's throwing arms are switched.

The Twins started 4 OFs and no SS.  While I appreciate not having to take Guzman out myself, I don't know whether it was your intention to start the DH (Ford) over a position player.

A little balancing may be in order - Luis Rivas, perhaps the worst hitter on the Twins, has a higher power rating than J.D. Drew, for example.  Also, running speed ratings seem really low, generally, while pitching speed ratings are off the charts (many pitchers throw much harder than even Juan Berenguer in the original, although I may just be complaining because I was caught off guard by a 102 MPH fastball from Mussina).

Great job overall on the ROM, though; thanks for all your hard work!

Uniforms: Blame that on the fact that RBI doesn't support dark blues.  I did change the unis a tiny bit though.

Arms: Thanks, it has been changed.

Lineup: Blame that the fact that RBI doesn't have the DH rule.  I hate the DH rule.  It sucks.  Anyway, there were only 8 spots, so I removed the worst hitter.  BTW, these lineups were taken from the Game 1 lineups.

Power: That's because I hate JD Drew for not signing with the Phillies.  I changed him back to 880 now.  Everyone else's power rating is based on homers per at bat.

Pitching: I've decided to use another formula than the one that I used in yesterday's ROM.  This should be better.

Speed: There's really no practical way to gauge speed other than stolen bases.  Unfortunately enough.

Thanks for your compliments and criticism! :)

Just gave the new one a quick look - not sure which Twins uniform I like better.  The pitching speeds seemed much more reasonable, though.  Nice work.

For speed, you could also try factoring in 3B, or perhaps just some observational input.  It just seemed in the ratings like there were a lot of players with 118 speed and virtually no one with 130 or higher (which I consider "reasonably fast"), although I didn't notice it too much during actual gameplay.

The DH rule is stupid, I agree.  Someday, I need to get some serious programming going and get an RBI 3 editor in the works - then we'd actually have the DH supported correctly.

Speed is the most annoying rating for hitters to make.  Sure, SB is good, but some managers are less aggressive on the basepaths.  Triples are good, but they're usually luck.  Especially when Michael Barrett has 6 and Ichiro has 5.  I'll figure out something* though.

*- read: be lazy and probably think of an easy way out

The easy way out is what I usually do - I go with what I know about the player and decide, for example "133 sounds about right".  Inexact as heck, I know, but that's my style.

Both of these roms are great, I just wish they could be made for an actuall nintendo cartridge. Hey Jerry just wondering why you went with Leskanic over Timlin for the Sox?

I went with most saves, Leskanic had 4 to Timlin's 1.

I have some goofy glitch on this rom, when I pick Boston to play as, and then pick the computer team, it goes right back over Boston, so you can essentially play the same team twice.  Am I on fucking drugs or something?

I believe this ROM has enabled Nightwulf's hack to allow both players to choose the same team (I think it also has player 2 pause enabled and disabled the slaughter rule).  You can indeed have Boston play themselves if you want to.

And Schilling throwing 107 MPH!!!  Looks like a -10 MPH is in order and the speed will be pretty close to reality.

The original ROM that strted this thread is fairly realistic.

For the earlier comment about player speed, most of it is fairly based on reputation - but you also have to make a choice.  As a practical matter, speed in RBI comes into play in 2 places - steals, and extra base hits.  Jeff Bagwell is slow as molasses, but steals bases well in real life, because he's a smart guy about when he does it.  Scott Rolen isn't fast, but is well-known for his ability to take extra bases all over the place when running because of his heads-up play.  Meanwhile, Vlad is faster than fuck, but gets thrown out stealing all the time because he has no clue what he's doing on the bases and doesn't pay attention.

What does this all mean?  Use values that make sense to you.  Mickey Mantle was regarded as the fastest player in the AL for many, many years, but you wouldn't know it from his stolen base totals.

yeah realistic......

for some reason i don't remember Bonds being a righty before the all-star break.
...but that's just me.

Yeah, I can fix it.  When I get the time. I don't really care too much about the all star teams though.

I'm a little late to the party, but these ROMs are great!  I just started playing ROMs again after a few years off, and I'm really enjoying these.  Thanks for the hard work, gentlemen.

This is Scroope with a new name after a year or two off the board too I believe.  Anyone interested in getting a ROM like this together for this years playoff teams (2006).  I could work on one, but won't have the time to get it together in a day like I did last time.  If someone else is going to make one, I wouldn't want to start and waste my time if they finish it first.

Also, I have seen that there are ways to import lists of stats into Nightwulf's editor now without having to type each players stats individually into the editor.  I tried playing with the special files, but they keep opening in an IE browser and not loading back in after I play with the stats.  If someone could direct me to a place where I can find directions.  I would appreciate it.

Last, Gantry if you could connect me with my old username and password (Scroope),  I would appreciate it.  I no longer use the same email address, but I use the one that I contacted you with several months ago to remove my full name off of a particular message.

Thanks to anyone who helps with any of this.
