There is a proposed event to take place at the Illinois State University chapter of Rho Beta Iota (RBI) house....between myself and the ever-loathed "Dr. Nacho" - we will attempt to play 100 games of RBI in a 24 hour span. The matchup will hopefully take place before the new year, probably during finals week (when else?) Given that a game can be finished in about 10 minutes if it goes quickly enough, it is a possibility. What is the most games anyone has ever played in a row?
PS - We do plan to have people (ideally chicks) on hand to provide us with food, bedpans, etc.
I'm telling you I've been thinking that would be incredible if it can be done.
I don't think it can be done, figure each game takes 15 minutes, 4 in an hour, you need 25 hours.
But some games might be quicker, but you might have to take a shit or something or piss.
Playing that long itself will be a major challenge.
Will the nintendo last that long without melting?
I would like to hear more about this, sounds very interesting and maybe the greatest of RBI Stories or accomplishments to date.
well, Dr. Nacho registered as a member of this forum today (name: rbiequalsgod)....so hopefully we can start a discourse on the possibility of this subject. Unfortunately, he will probably have trouble figuring out how to use the forum. (His reaction after i got him to register: "What happens now?")
I think it's great that you'll try it. But I don't think it can be done. RBI will wear you down mentally. After that tenth hour, you will probably feel retarded. I recommend maybe tripping for this event. The human mind cannot take this kind of punishment without some sort of help. I don't think booze will help.
This would be an incredible feat. I am curious as to what style you'll play. If it is down the middle, no way it can be done. The games would take to long. If its curve style, the games in theory would be much shorter. However I still doubt yuo could play 100 in an hour. What is the game setup? I say you guys max out at 78 games, which would still be amazing!
Good luck to you guys, but getting to 100 games is going to be most difficult. Shit, I say try and play 50 games in 24 hours first. That's still less than 30 minutes a game, which is much more feasible given food, poo and fatigue considerations. Let us know how it goes, but I say don't aim too high at first...
pulling off that daunting feat is impressive if you can do it however, i would wait till after finals are over when your brain is on shutdown mode anyway.
damn i dont miss school
well, I would prefer to do it after finals, but Dr. Nacho is an unemployed wuss, so he will go back home after finals are over, whereas I will be staying here...mostly alone, except for RBI, and Madden football, which just this morning has most thoroughly forsaken me...so I think it might be pure RBI, who never does me wrong. Well, sometimes it does, but it doesn't remember stats, so I don't have to look at the horrid recollection of 11 DROPPED PASSES IN ONE GAME!
RBI isn't immune to this - we've had a couple 6 and 7 BOP games...
24 Hours of RBI isn't the best way to study for a final, but it should be the most enjoyable. Well, probably not...
100 games in 24 hours would be great. Contact Twin galaxies for classic game world records. There are currently no records listed for NES RBI games. They usually send a representative from their organization to "witness" the event or you can videotape the whole ordeal and sent it to them. Check out their website for more info at www.twingalaxies.com
Good luck!!
Jason ;D
This is the "most loathed" DrNacho speaking on behalf of the two courageous members of the RBI chapter of Illinois State University. I must say that it can be done, given our curve-pitch style and our love for RBI purity: St. Louis vs. Houston, the two most impotent offenses the RBI masses could ever hope to see. Therefore, if we do not eat, sleep, or deficate, it can and will be done. We owe ourselves this opportunity, and we have less than a month to prepare. Wish us luck. Thank you.
DrNacho
Give it a go, and be sure to keep us updated every couple hours or so. It'll be good time log and place to record good games/scores/plays for one. Also, it will be fun to keep track of your mental state throughout the marathon...
Is it going to be just two people, or will there be a third player? MAybe you could weara diaper and crap your pants if you have to go. Again, I do stress the importance of not boozing. I advise you to drink lots of water and maybe ingest some mind altering drugs. (if nothing more than to keep you awake) For I think the mind will give up before the body.
how do you play RBI and not drink?
Good point--It won't be easy. But I don't think 100 games cab be done under the influence of booze. I drunk mind will want to give up early, go to bed, or surrender in some way. A drugged mind will become focused, and unchallenged in its pursuit of the goal.
but if you can't drink, why would you wnat to play RBI? Again I am confused...its like trying to drive a car without any gas. Its impossible to play without booze
What mind-altering drug are you talking about?
Armas
Maybe acid, shrooms, or mesclin?
i'm talking about beer
Every game lost you have to drop acid. :D Ya know what sucks? None of my RBI buddies are my drinking buddies, and vice versa. So I've never done the RBI drinking game.
What about having an RBI Tourny, much like the one coming up but play by the drinking game rules. That would be a sight.
Armas
I'm back...even though my old roommate stole my copy of RBI, and I now live 140 miles away from my ultimate competitor, I am reviving the "100 Games of RBI in 24 hours" plan. Who's with me?

This is an outrage. Sucka, you are hereby condemned to no RBI forums for the rest of the week.
The game is a means to an end for the booze for you. Think about your actions. The booze is to be a mean to an end for the game, man.
This is outragous!
* note: I do not combine booze and rbi at all. I strongly feel that rbi is enough for me!

give the guy a break, this post is almost two years old.
It was a joke.

I'm all for participating or monitoring this insanity. You still in Bloomington, Ryan? If not, where are you and where do you plan on holding this revival?
Beales
God, how I wish I was still in Bloomington. My heart yearns for college. I'm in Palatine right now, but hopefully not for long. If I was to pull this off, my opponent would have to be the venerable Dr. Nacho. He would still be into it for sure, but unfortunately he is still at college (lucky bastard) working on his master's. It WILL happen some day, though.
Keep the dream alive Strass, you can do it....

As I think about this, it is crazy. You have to average 1 game every 14.4 minutes, which means if the competition is fairly even, you will get almost no breaks, I don't think we finish many 2 player games in less than 11-12 minutes and any long/ extra innning game would screw up the average.
crazy....crazy like a fox!
What if you played for 24 hours and only got in 99 games, would you try again?
A game every 14.4 minutes would make it darn near impossible if you consider you have to take 30 seconds between games to reset, stretch, piss, select teams etc. At 100 games you lose almost an hour right there...

I thought about this, but if you play a 7 game series, I think you can cut this down to about 10-15 seconds for most games (obviously you need the 30 seconds at the end of the series).
I was also debating on teams to use, I think you go with Hou/SL match up as much as possible.
Gantry, I assume straight pitch games take longer since there is more scoring, how long do your games usually take?
I would have to say a Detroit/Houston matchup would go the fastest because most games would be over by the 2nd inning

Not in curve, but yes straight pitch that might get the job done.
our original plan was that I will take Houston in every game, and Dr Nacho would take the Cardinals in every game. We play curve style. We would need bedpans to alleviate the need for bathroom breaks. We also need chicks on hand to supply us with refreshments.
Do you play 2 starters or 1 starter?
If you play 2 starters with those teams, I could see a lot of extra inning 0-0 or 1-1 games.
I'd assume after the first run was scored, each guy would race to end the game....
Or one player would let the other score 10 runs, then go 1-2-3 the next half to end the game.
Sounds like a cheap way to get 100, but I'd think you would do this once or twice to cut time. ??? ??? ???
well, since we will be playing "series" style...using two starters would be your undoing in the following game.
and none of that cheap crap you were talking about.
Maybe I wasn't clear...
It seems to me that you would be so interested in getting through all 100 games, that you wouldn't care about playing well. This isn't a sarcastic question, but what's the point?
new idea on the RBI endurance front:
Nacho and I were discussing the potential of 100 games in 24 hours, when a new idea dawned upon me.
it would require multiple TVs running RBI, but that can be arranged without too much difficulty.
an RBI-off (or marathon) Teams of two play RBI against each other until they can play RBI no longer. Bathroom breaks would be permitted, but they cannot take longer than three minutes or come more often than once per hour. Leaving the RBI for any other reason is forbidden, as matrons will be on hand to deliver sustenance.
Once you (or your opponent/teammate) can no longer play RBI, you are eliminated. Last team standing wins.
Who's in?

Go to a discount sporting good store and pick up 5 score books. Now you can have these chicks take turns keeping stats as well. That would be interesting to see the stats after 100 games. Do you really plan on playing 100 str8 games with just Houston and St. Louis.
I would heartily support any sort of RBI Marathon format, that would rule. I would say the most games win, no restrictions on the # of breaks or the like. If you need to nap, you are hurting your chances to have the most victories.
One TV and two players, no rotating. We should have a date where we can get 5-10 different sets of players and go at it. Maybe the forum members who aren't participating can pick a team and put up 25 to 50 cents a game, and at the end pool it all up for charity or something. Dee-Nee giving back to the community...
Shit, even if one set of players it would be cool...
well gantry, we both live in the heart of the Dee-nee community: the Chicago area. I think we need to start finding willing participants. Nacho and I are both in, as are you, I imagine. From there we can set a date, location, etc.
Im now tempted to time those rbi and tecmo marathons to see just how many games we can churn out during those 4 and 5 hour shots. Nate and I seriously played for 7 straight hours of RBI last year on the 4th of july.
3-10PM. prolly only totaled around 20 games though.
i'm still willing to do this
What if the games are videotaped, instead of videotaping the event itself?
would that really make it more interesting for anyone? watching 100 games of RBI would be pretty damn boring. watching select snippets of the madness would be much more interesting.
What about some sort of live webcam set up?
Start on Saturday at 8AM, finish on Sunday at 8AM, we set it up so that the entire room shows, and it can be periodically monitored by TBT and the like.
I don't have a webcam but I imagine they're not too expensive anymore, and there's gotta be some sort of site that will stream it live.
it sounds like a good idea. but are we talking about 24 hours of RBI, or an RBI marathon?
I think we'd start with 24 hours, and if we can get close to 100 games try to stick it out to 100.
But we'd definitely start realistic with just the 24 hours (tongue in cheek)
i think 24 hours of RBI is doable if you get a lot of sleep and have a good supply of red bull esque beverages on hand.
you realize this would lead to the RBI network someday. RBI games, and events 24-7.
The cotut, the rbi dtinking championship, the ohio tourney. rbi coverage all day everyday.

wow, that actually sounds like something jed clampett would say if he were here. nicely done.
TBT is in Iowa, which is like the meth capital of the world. I'm sure he can round some up for you.
yep, iowa is the home to meth. lots o fucked up people on that crap. remember people, tell your friends, family members, and neighbors, meth is not a recreational drug.......NOT A RECREATIONAL DRUG!

We also discussed the necessity of a good support group, meaning people who would be willing to cook for you, get drinks for you, etc. Possibly, bed-pans would be needed as well.
this event WILL happen. I just booked a flight to Minnesota on Aug 21st...between then and when i leave on the 24th, Nacho and I WILL play RBI for 24 hours straight. I don't think Nacho has any friends up there yet, hopefully by then, he will have found someone to serve as our support staff. Otherwise we will have to go it alone, making it all the worse.
I'm sure he'll meet some people at the sex change conseuling
I wonder if Minnesota has the highest transvestite population next to Cali. Hmmmmm, perhaps that is why he wanted to go there rather than Northwestern
Tantric RBI
well nacho threw a sally wedge into the plans again. he apparently has to do to some workshop (probably learning to make birdhouses or something) from 9 AM to 3:30 PM every day that i am supposed to be there. i am waiting on his response to the PM i just sent him to see if switching days will help, if expedia will even let me change my flight time.

If we did this on Saturday, that would be entirely feasible.
