They are all pretty bad
I never play the computer...but I do know that they leave the P in way too long.

im gonna nominate a different one: watching your P/IF somehow get in front (closer to the plate) of a VERY slow rolling ball, and try to run it down... after finally realizing they are never going to catch up to the ball (intereting law of physics...) the computer moves another player (ie the SS if they were runnin with the P, or the LF if running with the SS at first) and then they MISS the ball with that second guy... this is so unbelievably painful.. its like a 3-strike mistake... first off you should never be chasing a ball outward in the infield, secondly they should realize they cant get it with that person much, MUCH earlier, and finally how the hell do you then let it roll by the next guy... Christ this mis-play drives me insane.. but at the same time, only endears the computer more to me..

what is the minimum speed rating for a computer controlled player to steal a base?
I'm guessing you mean to for the CPU to attempt a steal. I'd have to do some tests and see, I'd guess 140
142 = Hatcher, Dykstra
140 = Pettis, Gladden
138 = Mookie, Gibson, Trammel, Straw
Not sure I've seen the 138s try to steal, I think I've seen the 140s, but not certain.
I know Pettis tries it sometimes. I'm thinking some slower guys may try, though - I'm horrible at throwing out runners, but I manage to get them sometimes, and I'd think that my crappy throwing wouldn't get Pettis except maybe on a good fastball.
Semi-related note - I stole 3rd in the first inning with Coleman against the computer last night. I got the maximum jump (holding left-B before the pitch), Alexander threw a changeup, and I just beat the throw.
I've actually seen Trammell attempt a steal. Just once, though. It was pretty strange, very out of the blue.
one time, playing the mets using the Cards dykstra got a single, then i threw him out trying to steal second... mookie gets up and singles, then attempts to steal and i threw him out... very odd occurence i believe.. i guess they just saw somethin or had somethin in the scouting report.. i think pena took it personally tho, as he homered in the next inning, which was nice..
Another funny Watch play occurence, when CPU throws to third and they have the runner dead waiting to tag him, but decide to throw to another base just before making the tag.
That happened twice in your game against BeefMaster today - both times with Dawson, they threw home to get the lead runner, but it wasn't a force play, and instead of getting them into a rundown, they just threw to first (both times they couldn't get Dawson and everyone was safe.)
Having seen a lot of watch games lately, here's the most common one (at least one or twice a game):
- There are runners on first and second, and a sharp ball is hit to LF. The LF picks the ball up and thinks that they have a chance to get the lead runner at third, so he fires a laser - except there isn't anyone covering third. But then, the runners don't keep going automatically, but wait until the ball rolls to the backstop to start running. Almost always, the lead runner scores, and the runner from second is tagged out at the plate.
