Title: Overstuffed ROM?
Post by: demystifier on 10/26/04, 12:27:35 AM
I was wondering as to what advantages their are to the overstuffed ROM?  What is the difference between the overstuffed ROM and the regular ones?

The Overstuffed ROM makes you ham and cheese scones on demand and sing you to sleep in a soothing voice reminiscent of a young Lena Horne. The Regular ROM smells vaugely like Liquid Pine Sol and refuses to slow play middle pairs, no matter WHAT Doyle Brunson says.

Other than that, they are very similar.

There are no advantages to the overstuffed ROM. The only difference is an additional 160k of code and graphics tiles that are never used.

The only reason I included an option to output a 256k ("overstuffed") ROM is due to reports that this is the only ROM that would work in NESem. I didn't realize it at the time, but (I believe) it's required for the old RBIBM program also.

Incidentally, it would appear that the overstuffed ROM is also needed for NESCafe, the Java emulator.

Thanks. Added that information to the download page.
