Title: Ozzie Smith homer?
Post by: demystifier on 11/04/04, 11:17:39 PM
Earlier tonight I was fucking around while waiting for my roommate and decided to play a few games of RBI.  First game up I pick my favorite St. Louis to take on Minnesota....I scored four in the first inning, but apparently must have made Viola pitch enough to tire him...by the second inning, his pitchers were getting slow and not breaking well.  Generally, I like to bunt for hits with St. Louis (sometimes I play a 'bunt only' game to make it a little more difficult), but in this inning I decided to just cut loose.  Everyone started knocking the shit out of the ball.  At one point, I had a runner on second with Cox at the plate.  He dinks a little ball so lightly it was as if I had bunted...runner advances to third..the throw to first is way late.  Next batter, Vince Coleman.  Coleman's hit goes very slowly towards third base, but I hold at third not knowing at first if this is going to be caught or not (really low liner).  It falls, and the throw is way late (actually I think they threw home because of the game's built in idiocy for fielding).

Next batter, Ozzie Smith, one of the weakest PWR ratings in the game.  The first pitch is slow, fat, and down the middle.  Little Ozzie puts a charge into it and sends it down the line into the right field bleachers.  No Tony Armas blast by any means, but it was a nice grand slam none the less from one of the least powerful players in the game.

I often play with StL, but this is one of the first homers I can remember hitting with Ozzie, ever.  Of course, this might have something to do with the fact that I bunt with him 75% of the time...but still, a happy RBI moment none the less.

By the time I was done batting in that second, I had a 20-0 lead....ah, the joys of RBI...

By the way, I've played a few games with DET this week, and I think I've hit a lead-off homer with Trammel every game.

I've seen him hit 2 in a game during one of the RBI Fantasy Seasons.  It was insane.

I didn't hit a HR with Oz for like 15 years, then I went yard with him 3 times in a week. He's had a huge power surge with me. I was playing straight pitch though.

I remember a long time ago probably 1990 or so, the first HR I ever remember hitting with Ozzie was a walk off.  It reminded me of the one he hit in the playoffs when he hadn't hit any all season.

And just to plug the site:

Is it possible to hit a home run with Ozzie Smith?

You betcha. In fact, Ozzie Smith has hit two grand slams in his illustrious RBI career. One of the greatest RBI moments for us was when Lipitz hit a game-winning grand slam with Ozzie Smith off Potsie in the bottom of the 9th. We had fun with that one, and it still haunts Potsie to this day.

This thread means that Ozzie is clutch.

What I want to know is if anyone has gone deep with Santana.. over the wall but not a wallzie.

I've had everyone else do it, Smith, Backman, Randolph, Pedrique (3 in a game), Uribe, etc.  Everyone BUT Santana.  Rafael, you truly suck.  I hate you.

Someone has to have done it.  I've hit the top of the wall several times, but always been denied.

Truer words have never been spoken, and so articulately, too. Welcome aboard.

And no, no one has ever hit a home run with Rafael Santana.

I've never hit a homer with Rafael Santana because that sack of crap never gets a fucking at-bat.  I can't let a turd like him get a couple of swings in if I'm playing Chubbs, no fucking way.

I was playing a little more today and I noticed a tendency that I was wondering if any of the rest of you have felt was true; Jose Oquendo hits more homers than he should.  I know part of this is the 64 PWR being added for his first at bat, but I've hit 3 homers with Jose just this week, in about 7 or 8 games total, and that is without him playing in every game too.

And I've never hit a homer with Santana, but I don't know if I can remember ever letting him get an at bat either, so that kind of makes sense.

I've hit 1 homerun with Ozzie...it was a grandslam and it happened the same game as a Tommy Himm cycle.  It was a sweet day at the Flood house.

Jose Oquendo in a pinch hitting situation is truly magical.   The man CRUSHES in his 1st AB, but that's it.  No truer example in the game...

"The Weapon" hit a walkoff, 2 run bomb for me last week.
