Over the past couple of nights i have been tinkering around with RBI editors and making fun teams and shit. I created Heaven and Hell teams on my latest version. The teams are equipped with the best numbers in every category. Its really fun to play with and try to beat. But i started thinking..... We are all trying to play god here. I recently played an online game but was required to use a different ROM, with no teams on it that i liked. It wasnt the same. I feel that the original was the best that we have. I feel that if we keep digging deeper and deeper into the programming and technical issues of the game that we are going to come across something that we dont need to see, (I.E Raiders of the Lost Ark). I feel that these "unknown values" for the pitchers are probably unknown for a reason. Movies like Godsend and Butterfly Effect come to mind here also. If we keep fucking around with this stuff then something real screwed up is bound to happen. I think that it is great not knowing why a doink happens, or not understanding why a guy has so much power in his first at bat off the bench, or not knowing why a ball that hits halfway up the wall on the foul line goes through the wall. Not knowing is what made the game so beautiful to me in the first place. Next thing you know, we are gonna have a way to make some of the players actually look black. Or we may end up being able to slim these players down. Its not healthy and I will not partake in anymore of these shinanigens. I am personally making sure that there is always a safe copy of the original RBI. and i will play online with nothing else.
Good Luck and RBI Godspeed to you all in your RBI tinkering journeys,
Brock
I also see this customizing stadiums shit down there.... and that is just an RBI sacrilege. To RBI hell with all of you now that i think about it.
"Next thing you know, we are gonna have a way to make some of the players actually look black."
Yes you can, what's the problem are you racist :)
A man of integrity has no place on the dee-nee forums...
there's something wrong with you, brock. ;)
Your words are hollow. A true believer would have taken the next step and blown this place up so that NO ONE could go forward. Your 'live and let live' schtick tells me you are not strong enough to force your beliefs on others. You know you want to edit, you know you want it...
Would you like a taste of this apple?
fatheadx is right. Try it. You know you want to.
You ask me if I have a god complex? I AM GOD!
I dont force my beliefs on anyone. First of all anyone that doesnt believe in what i believe in is ignorant and irrational ;D. Secondly, why would i want to destroy something that is devoted to RBI ???. I do believe that you should all try to make the perfect team and then use a normal team, I like STL, and try to beat them complete game style. Its amazing how hard, nay impossible it is. Though i did put up a 6 spot against God in one inning. His 120+ mph heat is nothing, its the 43 mph off speed shit in the dirt that kills me. I actually swung, reloaded and swung again and got an opposite feild shot with Jack Clark.

PS I dont wanna stop your searches for RBIs greatest secrets, hell i think its fun putting my name in there and making new teams from time to time. But I cant wait for one of you to open the RBI Lost Arc and then disinegrate. While i sit here and play the original version... with my Heaven and Hell teams of course. 8)
Briz, can you post the ROM you made with the Great team.
looks like we may have our first rbi fundamentalist.
some of us have always believed in the original RBI.
i ascribe to RBI Fundamentalism.
RBI Fundamentalism, a most interesting topic indeed. This can get quite heady, not sure I'm ready for such a discussion. I enjoy my pretty little world...
The Book of ShitPaw says...
RBI Baseball is only that which is played with the original 10 teams.
Arcade Versions are not mentioned.
Glitches are referred to as "Miracles" and "Curses"
Here is my ROM. Its got my team (Bk) which is me and my buddies, with no stat better or worse than anyone in the original game. They arent all the highest value either, I was fair with them. Heaven (Hv) is all perfect. Hell(Hl) are all perfect too, but there ERAs, BAs and HRs are deceitful.

LOL
I think the miracles and curses part made me snot on myself
RBI Terrorism is waddling to a town near us all.
I love this thread... the first thing I ever did was (while in HS) make the team of my friends in intramural softball and some of the other teams in the league... then slowed down the pitching and upped hitting (slowed runners) to make what I referred to as RBI Softball... as for real attempts at making realistic games w/updated rosters, I think its amazing what some of you guys do.. and it CAN be tons of fun to replay like the 1990 World Series thru RBI... having said that, I too like living in the dark on much of the statistical stuff... I PREFER having my own bogus theories like trying to throw too quick results in an error.. it may be inaccurate, but it is what I grew up on and cant imagine changing.. OF COURSE the runner will come around to score if he gets on in a really heinous error (blatantly dropped pop-up to the pitcher).. i dont wanna think that there is maybe a reason why the pitcher is more likely to drop, or that there is no proof guys bat better after an E (besides maybe more focus by the guy you're playing, to "make the most of the error")... "Ignorance is Bliss," and while I will continue to respect and wonder about much of this stuff myself, I will live happily ever after with my 10 teams compiled of late-80's players with (sometimes) curious abilities... to everyone on the right side of this argument, let's continue to bean other team's pitchers when they are in a groove, let's continue to always pitch to Gary Carter when a DP is possible, but be afraid otherwise, let's continue to sprint in to keep balls in the park (has this been proven?) and go on living the RBI life as the RBI Gods intended... Tengen League players didnt evolve from anything else, and werent meant to further evolve... there is just RBI Baseball, for better or for worse...
Be it Fundamentalists/Creationists/wtvr, count me in...
RBI Science (founded by Nightwulf) versus RBI Religion?
Under religion, we have fundamentalism.
Under science, we have the truth-seekers and myth-busters.
Now what happens when you pit the average "religion" vs "science" player?? Obviously there are great players behind each cause, but who has the better average players?? I'm thinking a "Kasparov vs Deep Blue" showdown..
We should just nominate 2 people to fight it out. For the fundamentalists, we have Carl Everett, for his disbelief in dinosaurs, his clutch hitting and his awesome clubhouse leadership. For the scientists, we have Adam Dunn, TTO god, for his awesome walk-taking, big whiffing, homer hitting exploits.
Who will win?
(This should probably be a poll...)
Great ROM, 1st game lost to Hell 10-0 in the first (with Ho) then lost to Heaven 10-0 in the 3rd (with MN). I was playing with the keyboard, with controller I could do a little better, but damn it is tough to hit.
I think if I get used to hitting I might be able to win a game.
How did u lose?
I beat Heaven with God pitching 10-0 in 2 innings.
Note that I used Houston and Minnesota, not the other stacked team.
Makes more sense. I put up a little fight with minn.
My 2nd try with Minnesota was much better (lost 17-7 after 8) but was only down 11-7 going into the bottom of the 8th before Viola ran out of Gas. I will beat HELL using Minnesota( which is basically the opposite of Hell, weather wise)
Briznock. The original RBI is the biggest peice of garbage ever. Not ony are all the teams totally uneven = some don't even stand a chance. Astros? wtf do you even want that team in the game for?
Why your opposed to playing a rom where every team pretty matches up with the mets on the original- baffles the shit out of me. That is all.
Are you a conservative that voted for bush or something? I don't understand people that can't stand change. I will forcibly make you play something different than the original rbi just so you know. You will play something other than orignal rbi online.

He just called the best game ever "the biggest piece of garbage" and that was the best you could come of with Mcclane?
Josephady- WTF are you thinking? Are you trying to get banned from Dee-Nee?
Did you ever consider a game with 2 people of different abilities now being able to be evenly handicapped.
The original is brilliant in every possible way. So far ahead of it's time.

I don't know what he's thinking. I'm not sure I want to know.
The wrath of Dino Jesus is going to come down upon josephady for these blasphemous statements.

I believe he's saying he prefers modified ROMs to the original set of teams that came with the game. Nobody's mentioned any of the RBI sequels on this thread, at least that I've seen.

this is the best drunken post ever. i'm in hysterics.
Rbi 3 is horrbile.
I mean RBI for NES.
Look at the stats in Nightwulfs editor. The teams are completely uneven.
All that I am saying is - it is unfair. I made a rom where the teams have practically the same stats. It is different though.
THere is 8 slots on your team and I gave every team the same 8 slots for power, speed, and contact.
So the number 1 guy on atlanta could have a 14 contact - but not the yankees. But someone elses on the yankees has a 14 contact.
Now that is an even game.
With the original, it isn't like that. So yes- the original rbi did a great job in paving the way - but it is not better than an edited rom.

There is no reason to change something that is perfect. And if you cant stand a little challenge (using Houston) then you dont belong here in the first place. Go play some other game. Obviously one that isnt perfect.
Ah, that makes more sense. From the way you posted it was almost as if you despised the game itself. I still disagree with you, but can definitely see your point. Thank you sir...

Stop it. Its not funny. Why are you even on here. And what you are trying to say is you are a big douche bag and you dont like any video game ever.... and you dont like sports at all because no game or league has ever had all even teams. You are thinking completly without logic here. Start using your fucking head will ya?
OK Briz, thats getting a little harsh.
josephady arguments remind me of dungeons and dragons
What I am doing is making the MLB like the NBA.
Every team basically has an ability cap.
Why are you getting violentally angry about that.
The game we played is posted below, and it was a great game. No reason to get in a hissy fit. And please respect gantry's civility rule.
I am sure he wants civil arguments here, not childlike behavior.
childlike????? as in quitting in the middle of a game you cant win.
Grow up then talk to me again.
That game above was bullshit too.... If i knew anything about that team i was using it would have been different. And i had to end up using the keyboard. You could never play at my level. Ill take Houston on the original vs whoever you want in real life TV style nintendo RBI.
I would never ever quit vs. you believe me. I have boycotted all games with joedirt, so I will never quit against any one again.
It is childlike to lose at a modified rom and say you will only play people in original version online.
I am talking about insulting people because of thier opinions
respect other peoples opinions. I may have displayed childlike behavior that day vs joedirt -
but I would never disrespect this forum, and gantry, by lashing out at other people because of a post
At least i finished the game i was playing. And im not against playing modified versions online anymore. I just want to play with a ROM i have used and can know a little about the teams i use. Thats all. So stop trying to make quitting in the middle of a game sound ok. Its not.
I never said it was. I did quit in that game vs joedirt and I admit it. What the fuck does that matter to you?
I am going to try to change the religion on my id tags ("dog tags") to "RBI Fundamentalism."

RBI Fundamentalism is too long, and I'm not posting my social security number on this website.
alrite i have so much to say concerning the assinine original RBI bashing... ill try and keep it brief tho.. first things first, you complain about uneven teams?? what the hell is that, do you watch any professional sports?? or any sports ever for that matter... when do you ever see a league with all equal teams?? i really dont think it has ever happened... and the teams being different gives each team CHARACTER... i take the Cards lack of hitting and use it to play smallball and manufacture runs... i dont bitch that my buddy jacks 2-4 HRs a game with the Angels... as for the ROM you created, i have no idea why you wasted your time with such an idea... i could see maybe wanting one even game to battle with your friend one time on a totally level playing field, but not worthy of a ROM by any means... but anyway, you FAILED in your attempt to make all the teams equal... you say that while the leadoff guy for one team may have an XXX contact rating, the leadoff guy on another team wont, but someone in the lineup will.. guess what? the teams are freakin uneven... chances are neither of you will throw a perfect game, meaning more than 27 at-bats... this in turn means the line-up will probably turnover unevenly.. so lets say on this bogus rom of yours my best hitters happen to be 1-4 and yours 5-8... my better players will likely get an extra at-bat , while your shitty ones will... i know this is an exaggeration, but it proves the point, this is not total equality... and please, please dont tell me that you made all the pitchers even?? do you not like making managerial decisions what-so-ever? how do you ever get attached to a team/pitching staff? im sorry, i know im rambling but i just see no logic in his point (aside from my disagreeing completely)... alrite i just got back from 3 hrs of lacrosse in the snow, its time I fired up Brock's ROM and warmed up with a little duel vs HELL...
PS--tried to remain "civil"

im starting to think that josephady works for webster.
Ady: I'm not trying to be a wise-ass, but if you and I played, you'd need uneven teams, like me as Houston and you as NL. Although that's what it'd take for you to beat me (and I'd put money on me with Hou), the example is obviously extreme--but you (should) get the point. And there are subtle differences in teams, too--that make it fun for two players of equal talents.

Plus to add to JoeDirt's post... In baseball people go through slumps the same is truein RBI. Pitching is a little off or something. Right now im in my hair trigger slump, where i swing at everything, I cant stop myself. I just try to guess the pitch. It sucks ass. Im sure that when my eye comes back and this retarded thumb gets better Ill be about 10 times as good as i am now. which is scary.
Joe Dirt-- do you previously know/have experience with this guy?? or is that an open challenge to play you NL vs Ho... because i wouldnt mind making a little money...
heh heh...yeah, I usually don't make open offers with me as Hou and anybody else as NL...I played Ady a few times and beat him soundly; the final game, he quit in the middle of the game, like a ten year old.
Nice try, though. ;)

i will be back, and you will pay for that one
I'll throw my hat into the ring.
1) There is but one RBI. It is the original RBI and that is all.
2) ROM hacks are fine. I play in the Ady league, and although I'm not familiar with each team, I do my best to enjoy playing the game against human competetion. It in no way can replace the sheer joy that comes with playing the original RBI.
3) RBI 2 and 3 aren't the devil. . . damn close, but not quite. They have merit with me because each game has the Cubs on it.
I understand where joe ady is coming from with his "every thing is even" idea. It's damn near communist simply because on the surface ady is correct -- all things being equal the game would be best if no one team had an advantage, but no matter how hard we try, nothing will ever be even.
In RBI terms, no two people will have exactly the same controller. NO two people will have the same abilities --- some are better pitchers / some are better hitters, etc. Some people have played RBI so much that they become one with a certain team --- maybe even Hou or StL --- these people, for no apparent reason, play better when they use "their" team.
I tend to agree with Briz --- if we continue to delv into the the depths of RBI, we will eventually find something ugly. . . .something grotesque. . . something tubgirlesque even.
I'd shit my pants if I could find an original version RBI league!
RBI for Life
Is there a league that uses the original ROM? or with 2 player pause? Would love to play in one. Maybe everyone gets a team and plays 3 game series against each team. And have to use a pitching rotation.
QuoteRBI 2 and 3 aren't the devil. . . damn close, but not quite. They have merit with me because each game has the Cubs on it.
As an added bonus, Ryno may be the best player in RBI 3 (it's close between him and Bonds, at least on the 1990 teams). The '90 Cubs rule; if the season would've been played in RBI 3, they'd have won it all that year.

And if the cubs woulda had a team worth shitting on, Ryno would have gotten MVP number 2. .306 / 40 / 100 ain't bad out of the second baseman.
I agree with anything and everything Ryno23 says. There is without a doubt, no better player to ever step on a field than Ryne Sandberg. No contest. It's a shame the mafia runs the HOF voting and he's been denied. I mean, if Ozzie Smith can get into the hall with his career .260 BA and 5 career HRs, then why can't Ryno? Because he actually has a penis and didn't start games by running onto the field and doing faggoty flips. Also, I agree with everything Briznock says. Anyone who speaks out against original RBI definitely takes it up the butt.
I'm the biggest Sandberg fan the world has ever known, but for God's sake, let's leave his schlong out of this.
