Title: Possible new glitch?!?
Post by: ericdavisfan on 12/17/02, 10:42:06 AM
I was playing RBI recently and I had something happen that I've never seen before.  I've thrown the ball into the stands lots of times before.  However, this time I was batting and I yanked a line drive down the left field line.  It hit the wall fairly hard and started rolling into foul territory toward the bleachers.  When it got to the wall, the ball actually rolled into the seats.  The computer couldn't get to the ball, so I wound up with an inside the park homer.  Has anyone experienced this glitch before?

I recently experienced a new glitch as well... there was a foul pop down the thirdbase line.  The third basemen ran after it and it fell just in front of him and just before the stands.  It clearly bounced and then all of a sudden the third baseman was in the dive position in the stands and they called it an out.  Has this ever happened to anyone else?

The first glitch, brought up by ericdavisfan, happens all the time.  The computer's just too stupid to find their way into the stands to get the ball.  It should always be reachable though.  Maybe just not before everyone on base scores.

RockRaines4life's glitch I have never seen before.  I've seen the computer dive for the ball when it disappears by the wall... but never seen them catch it that way for an out (esp. on the bounce).  That sucks.

Three times this week I've had the glitch where I hit a homerun completely out of the park, but instead of the "Homerun" sequence with fireworks and all, the ball just keeps falling and acts like its rolling into the parking lot behind the stadium.  (you can't see the ball because it went off the screen as it was leaving the park)  You have to go ahead and round the bases on your own or the game won't continue.  Before this week, that had never happened to me even once.  All three were by lefties.  I think someone brought up this glitch in a thread a while back.

Make that four times this week.  It just happened again with another lefty.

Are you playing this on a NES Cartridge or emulator?  I don't remember hearing this, and find it quite strange you've gotten it four times.  Have you repowered the cart at all during this time?

Glitches glitches everywhere...

I've never had that happen on the NES either.

Yeah, I should probably clarify.  This is happening on an emulator.

If this is different on the emulator vs. NES cartridge, I wonder what other glitches there might be on the emulator?

The glitch I was talking about was on the NES.  The odd thing was not that the ball went into the stands or that the computer couldn't retrieve it, but that the ball rolled into the stands on its own.  I had never seen that before.  I've seen it thrown into the stands many times

ericdavisfan, I think they were asking about the homer glitch I was talking about.

Please tell me you don't do the "Truffle Shuffle".

The first glitch (ball rolling into stands) I don't remember ever happening to me, but I've heard of it before.

I've had the second (ball "bounces" into stands and is called out) happen to me  before.

The third (homerun rolling "behind" stadium) I've never heard of. Out of curiosity, which emulator are you using ?

I knew what they were talking about, I was just clarifying my glitch so I would know if it were unususal or not.  I don't do the Truffle Shuffle, but I find it hilarious every time I watch the Goonies.

I'm using FCEUltra.

My four homers all went out in a very small space between straight-away rightfield and the fair/foul line.

I'm using an all-time team ROM I created with RBI Mgr, so the players are somewhat juiced.  All four balls were really jacked.

The Truffle Shuffle is funny.  That fat kid's belly jiggles like a bowl fulla jelly.

Hath:

Interesting...  Did you make this ROM yourself?  Pretty sure this glitch has to do with the emulator and/or juiced ROM.  Play a game or two with the standard NES ROM and see if it happens.  Sounds like the power numbers are high, keeping the ball in the air for a very long time.  Does the sound get all funky when you hit it?

I didn't mean to imply that I made the ROM from scratch.  I just edited the players and stats on one of the all-time team ROMs from your media page.

The ball flight isn't completely screwy (at least in RBI world).  I would say that the magnitude of the homers I have hit could be accomplished by a lefty McGwire from the NES cart version (maybe).  Here are the power numbers of the players I have hit the "parking lot homer" with: 250, 221, 232, 242.  I don't get any weird popups that take forever to land when I play this ROM either.

That's what I meant, sorry...  Try to reduce their power numbers to Andre Dawson's 186 and see what happens..
