Welcome Killebrew!  I have a Harmon Killebrew rookie card somewhere...

Anyway, I can't remember a single dee-nee member from the Atlanta area except my buddy Jae (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/jae.shtml) (aka killspilman) and he's not a big player...

gantry,
i am the guy whose uncle was mike smithson and you played him in RBI 2. damn that game sucked.

i work in nascar and when it comes time for the chicago race next year i will give you a holler.

in 1988 i personally saw my friend destroy his house after he was called out on the grand slam gitch, woulda won the game 24-23. hendrick hit it.

two questions:
1. anyone ever homered with a pitcher?
2. anyone ever thrown a no-hitter with same guy through nine innings?
3. longest game?

i have no life.

Then you have come to the right place my friend...

Quotei am the guy whose uncle was mike smithson and you played him in RBI 2. damn that game sucked.

Jeez, I honestly don't remember this.  Did I play him online a little while back?

Quotein 1988 i personally saw my friend destroy his house after he was called out on the grand slam gitch, woulda won the game 24-23. hendrick hit it.

Solid!  This needs a little more detail, what did he do?

Quote1. anyone ever homered with a pitcher?

Yes, see http://dee-nee.com/rbi/faq.shtml#PITCHERHR

Quote2. anyone ever thrown a no-hitter with same guy through nine innings?

Yes, a couple people posted about this before.  Though it typically gets ugly because many of the purists think a 9-inning nono with one pitcher is more dependent on the terrible play of your opponent...

Quote3. longest game?

Good question, I don't think we've officialy touched this topic before.  My Records Page (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/records.shtml) shows a 15-inning affair between Nick and myself, definitely close to our personal record.  Anyone else?

in 1988, i was in 8th grade and me and this other guy in rural tennessee would play all wekennd. on stretch was 24 hours long. anyway:

he was down 23-20, based loaded and hendrick up, stanley (stanly!) pitching. in a shocking development, stanley folds and gives up the granny but hendrick is called out.

guy flies into rage. you woulda thought he was killed on the first level of contra or something. breaks tv. overturns recliners. goes outside and kicks several dogs for the hell of it.

the good thing about him breaking the TV is that it's the rural south, where custom is you stack tvs together, so we simply switched and kept on playing.

and i'd really like to vote for st. louis as the worst team ahead of houston.

Wow...  I've been pretty mad, but never at "break the TV" level.  Perhaps it crossed my mind after losing a few drunken matches to Lipitz in the hotels but still...

Our peak of drunken rage was Potsie kicking out our back screen door after losing a close game to me in the tourney.  Funny thing was that there was a semi-gathering of this Russian family on the other side of our yard (townhouses).  Potsie simply explained to them "I lost"

I can't possibly put STL below Houston.  What style of game do you play?  Straight/curve?  How many starters?  Any weird rules?

Play curve. and we got real mad because it was a great rivalry, every game was a one-run game. and we had nothing else to do.

this guy's family made about $160 a week and here we are playing games that cost $44 back then. we also had some helacious battles on Baseball Stars. on Baseball Stars i once beat a perfect team (every batter (.352, 48) 2-1 with the Lovely Ladies. that shit was tough.

i think st. louis is the worst team because of a total lack of power other than Clark. Yeah, Lindeman's got some pop, but Houston's got some damn good bench guys. Puhl's dangerous. and Hosuton's nearly as fast.

one more question -- is there a term for a homer that doesn't require a screen shift? one that goes WAY over the scoreboard? if not, what do we call it?

23-20 (or 24-23 after the granny) is quite the curve score, well done...

You mean a deep shot to center that doesn't scroll up?  I don't think there is a name for it.

moonshot?
out to pasture?
178th row?

the best player at hitting moonshots is Dawson.

well, the bad thing about the game is in the curve mode, your pitchers are gonna throw a lot more pitches and that obviously wears out quicker. by the 8th inning you're out of steam so the linescore is a lot like this:

1-1-2-3-2-2-2-8-10

Damn, Killebrew, I can't believe you mentioned the pitcher homer.  I hope we don't have to go through that again.

Also, you mentioned that Gantry used to play RBI 2.  Is this true?  If so, he's got some serious explaining to do.

gantry only played to get me a screen grab of Mike Smithson pitching.

painful process. i accept blame.

I got you now...  To clarify, Mike Smithson is RBIKillebrew's uncle.  Smithson was actually in RBI2 and he got a screenshot.  I remember that now, initially read that as I played RBI2 against your uncle online.  My bad...

...and i am not saying Uncle Mike coulda helped the Twins' staff in RBI One. he was hurt in 1987 and didn't make the game, so we gotta live with Juan-Gone throwing 102 mph dead straight.

Are you allowed to use all pitchers?  Even when we play 1 starter games,  scores rarely exceed 7-6 or so.

yeah, but we would average 10-12 walks a game and bases-clearing doubles were common. when we were 13 we ruled that game as far as hitting but the skills have declined.
