A quick rundown, as I have to head out to the Midlands:
The tourney was run entirely with two TVs in a basement, which was really a perfect setting. Kudos to Mike (Smokedubad) and Jeff (DXXPAC321) for organizing the tourney, it was a ton of work and they did a hell of a job. I arrived way too early (3:30 for my 7:15 start time) to check things out, but it was fun....
My first experience in any sort of real tourney or curve pitch, and I learned quite a bit. Pitching is an art, and that is what will win you games. Boston was the #1 team picked about 80% of the time, they seem to have the perfect blend of hitting and pitching for everyone's taste...
I met one of the Austin, TX RBI crew (Joey Freedman) there as well. He's a very cool guy and is my pick to win the whole thing. Though I missed the first half of games, so someone could surprise. He has an amazing control of the strike zone....
As for yours truly, I lost my first series to Mike Stroka by the scores of 1-0 and 1-0. Needless to say, I had a bit of trouble hitting the ball. In game two, the NES reset in the 7th inning which officially counts as a loss. No biggie though, as I couldn't attend day two and Mike was really pitching me tough anyway....
I won my second series over McDonald rather easily (he compeltely wore out his pitchers and was pretty much tired of playing) and decided to forefit my rematch with Stroka since I couldn't attend day 2. We did play an exibition game though and I won that one 4-1. All in all, I'm satisfied with my performance. I should be much more adept at curve when the next tourney rolls around...

Day two of the 2nd Biannual RBI Baseball COTUT has offically been completed. Only four participants remain that can win the title of "Champion of the Universe". Two remain in the winners bracket which will square off Sunday at 10am. It will be a battle between Mike Beales and Joey Freedman. The winner will earn a spot in the Championship Series. The loser will play the winner of the Colin Foster vs. Jim Callan series. And then the winner of that will play in the Championship series, but they will have to defeat the winner of the winners bracket in 2 consecutive 7 games series. That will be a difficult task which puts a lot of emphasis on the Beales vs. Freedman series, which would make it much easier to win the championship. There will also be a game for fifth place between John O'Connor and John Drissen.
I will try to post some interesting stats and additional comments about some of the games soon. There has been some crazy games. But I'm extremely tired right now after just finishing another 12 hours session.
As for my prediction, even though Beales was defeated by Freedman in Austin back in October, I pick Beales to pull the upset over Freedman in 6 games to be Champion of the Universe. Beales has been waiting for this moment ever since we left Texas to go home to Chicago. It will be entertaining too watch and can go either way. Both are deserving of the position they are in and either can come out of it the Champion.

I also predict Beales to win. I havent seen much of Freedman, but of what I have seen, he is beatable, but still hard. Either way, it should be an even matchup. Foster is probably going to get third and Callan is fourth.
If the bracket that I was looking at was right, it must've been an exciting finish. It seemed as though Freeman was going to win from the commentary on this, but then Freedman ended up third. then the loser bracket came back to upset the winners?! I'd like to hear details of the games; pass it along.
I'd also like to know how the final series panned out....
Colin Foster (HoJoFan), without a doubt, deserves the title of champion. It was previously thought impossible for somebody to become champion after losing their first series. Yet, Colin proved the impossible with an enthusiasm/determination/mental capacity never before seen to man.
After losing his first series to Joey Freedman (russellcox), Foster won his next 10 series. In this tournament he knocked out several notable players including Jason Kazmierczak (Ozzy362), Tim McDonald, John Drissen, Jim Callan (jcbbal86), Joey Freedman (russellcox), and finally Mike Beales (SmokedUBad) in order to obtain the title of Champion of the Universe.
So congratulations to Colin Foster on becoming the Second Biannual R.B.I. Baseball Champion of the Universe. A much deserved and admired title.
I'll post more info regarding the best series' and how they panned out over the next couple of days.

Much love goes out the big ballaz Colin Foster and Mike Beales for goin' the distance in the tourney. Solid players. It really came down to the pitching and mental stamina, which is what baseball is all about. I will always love Ribbie, but it may take me a while to get back in the swing of playing.
It was great to meet a lot of the fellaz from Illinois. Gantry: Great to finally meet the man behind Dee-Nee. Great guy. Kaz: Yer a freak. I was expecting to see a hole in the basement wall the size of your head. Colin: You kicked the shit out of me. I want a rematch. Congrats on the #1 finish. Beales: Excellent work on the tourney. You also kicked me around a bit. I want a rematch w/ you too. Take a chill pill and go to church more. Davies: Thanks for the use of your basement and updates of the Husker game. Bandur: Two words for you my friend: No-No...And uhh...oh yea, great job on setting up the tourney w/ MB. You are my bruthaz. We'll have to start talking about one down here in A-town. Who's up for coming down? There will be beer at this event. Maybe even some Texas Barbecue.
I'll go to A-town for RBI.
Also, I must add that Colin Foster threw a perfect game against me also proving that he is the champion of the Universe. His perfect game went 13 innings before i got a hit and then he scored on me in the 17th inning and I lost 2 to nothing in game 3 and consequently he won the series against me (jason kaz - Ozzy364@aol.com) so Foster is truly champion of the universe. He was very determined to win champion of the universe and that's just what he did.
russellcox:
I'd love to make it down to Austin (again) for a tourney. I'm sure the COTUT could bring a few members to represent.
You'll get your rematch against Foster, as will I. In no way am I finished or satisfied with my result in the tournament. I swear to God, someday I will break my second place curse and hold the title of Champion of the Universe. Lookin forward to the next one.
