Title: question for nightwulf or anyone else that would know
Post by: jcbball86 on 01/05/03, 12:10:56 AM
ok lets say im playing the computer, im detroit.  when i play a team like california or boston, i kill them by like 20. when i play a team like new york or houston, i beat them in the later innings by not as much.  is this due to them having better defense?  it seems like i get a lot less hits against houston then any other team.  or maybe its just because they have good pitchers?

That's a good question, and unfortunately I don't have a good answer for it. It could be that the teams are just better or worse overall. Actually tho, this could be another possibility for the two "unknown" fields in the data of each pitcher. Maybe they relate to the possibility of getting good hits off of a pitcher, thus leading to more extra-base hits and/or HRs ... not sure on that one.

when i play the computer, the only variable is me... if i am patient and wait for good pitches i kill them everytime... however, i usually get impatient and end up flailing at bad pitches increasing the length of games.    st louis is a good team to beat the computer with... my record for inside the park homeruns is 7.   2 of them off of bunts

have you noticed that detroit also has more errors? when i was in the tourney, whenever i was detroit (because i was sucking badly with boston) i would get at least 2 to 3 bops a game but none with any other team.

I definetly find it more difficult to mercy Houston early on in the game.  I think it just has to be the fact that they have good pitchers that throw hard and it would make sense that they make few errors considering how bad their offense is.

nolan is tough on everyone.  when playing against the computer, if they are throwing a mediocre hurler, then its "seats" city.   playing the computer is not what i would consider a good time.
