Title: Shocking
Post by: Ian Roger on 11/29/04, 09:44:57 PM
How good am I at this game?  Its shocking.  Straight pitch is gay, it ruins the true spirit of the game.  I wish I could beat Bob at century club, but I never will.

Straight pitch is kind of a non-skillful way to play the game....why don't you just give the other team 10 homers a game

I am not a straight pitch player, but don't be an ass.  Just be happy that there are a lot of people who truly love the same game you love.  And, here's a great response from the FAQ:

"Why straight pitch? There's no skill in that!

To be honest, we play straight pitch because that is the way we have always played RBI. There are tons of homemade rules people create in RBI that seem just as silly. As far as the lack of skill/realism arguments go, they seem just as silly to me. This is a 15-year-old Nintendo game with half-sized rosters, VERY limited gameplay, erroneous stats, and unrealistic player abilities. If you want a realistic game, play something made in the last year. If you want the most skillful game, play chess. Everyone who still plays RBI does it to have fun, because it's the most enjoyable two player game ever made. And trust me, NOBODY has more fun playing RBI Baseball than we do. So if you get the most enjoyment out of curved-based RBI, then that's great. We personally prefer the high-scoring, straight-throwing, hard drinking style of RBI. Different strokes for different folks... "

I think it may be time to change the above

If this isn't a skillful game than why were you willing to bet a grand that you could beat him on the other thread??? you must think you have a lot of skill in this game to bet that kind of money

I love staight pitch, if I played anything else I would probaly have killed all my friends by now or be dead myself, to me the game is all about fielding and luck, the most exciting play in RBI is tag up, you just never know how fast that fielder is going to throw the ball

I certainly think RBI is extremely skillful.  You're missing my point.  The above quote was taken from the FAQ of dee-nee.com and addresses straight pitch.

What I'm trying to say is, don't bash people who love RBI because they grew up with straight pitch.  It's still awesome to have people so passionate about the game (like us).

I didn't bash anyone...I just agreed with the first post..that straight pitch isn't as skillful as curve

I disagree...it's less exciting than a Dr Phil marathon.
The throw is always faster, unless..in the immortal words of a comrade you "see a rainbow"

Well, the bashing comment was really meant more for the "straight pitch is gay" comment that I quoted in my original post.

And I re-read the FAQ quote and it says nothing about rbi not being skillful...dunno where you got that from.

Anyway, the funny thing is, although I'm a die-hard RBI Anything goes player, I do think straight pitch requires skill.  Those bastards score in the 20s and 30s in a lot of their games--which is difficult to do.  Try it (note: they don't simply pitch an "A" ball right down the middle of the plate; they can vary speeds and hit corners of the plate--the pitch just cannot have any break on it).

Let the straight pitch guys be...please get over it, you don't have to play that way.

I love these newbies who log on to the website and think they can beat anybody in RBI, it's straight ridiculous?!?!

Ian Roger, come to the big apple, I will defeat you with the slaughter rule in effect, guaranteed, and I will do it as Houston.

This website has humbled me to know there are some great RBI talents out there, but it still bugs me that people think they are players when they are really just haters....what RBI player has sent you an email Ian Roger????

(Take that Lisa's beliefs!)
