Title: Arcade II ROM
Post by: ultimate7 on 12/07/04, 12:22:22 PM
I'm planning to make a 2nd "Arcade" ROM with the all-time teams (up to 1987 weighted toward recent, mostly back only to 1920) for the following franchises.  No players in the original Arcade game can be duplicated in this ROM

EDIT: To clarify, I want to make this as though it was made in 1987 as if there had been 2 version of the arcade game with 10 completely different teams

Phillies
Tigers
Pirates
Indians
WhiteSox
O's
Royals
Brewers
Twins/Senators

I need to pick the last team of the ROM, vote and tell me why, I'm leaning toward the Expos.

i don't know much about the arcade game or the teams from the arcade version, but what i do know is that ozzie smith, dave winfield, goose gossage, tony gwynn, steve garvey and many other great players played for SD.  bring a little love to the west coast, my friend.

The unfortunate thing with the Padres is all those guys besides Gwynn are already on the Arcade ROM and other than those guys, they ain't got much, so I'm probably not gonna make SD.

I voted for the Angels, because a team of Glaus, Baylor, Edmonds, Reggie and Vladimir Guerrero is downright scary.

Not to mention having Nolan Ryan starting and Troy Percival closing.

All of the above players are ineligible based on the criteria I set out.

D'oh! Well I'll still stick with my vote for the Angels.

IN addition if anyone has advice on who should be on the rosters (if you can think of some old timer I might overlook), let me know, I'll take all advice into consideration.

Close to Done with who should be on the Oriole and Pirate roster.

I'm going to go with the Mets - having made the playoffs in '86, they would've been fresh in the minds of the RBI programmers when they put together another arcade game.  Of course, their team won't be much better than the Astros, but you win some, you lose some.

I think the Twins/Senators team will be mostly Twins (apart from Walter Johnson, of course) - the Senators weren't ever all that great.  "First in war, first in peace, and last in the American League."  I was at a game in the Metrodome a couple years ago where they unveiled the Twins all-time team:

C - Earl Battey
1B - Hrbek/Killebrew (they picked both, because they're both among the most popular Twins ever; I think Killer was listed as 1B/3B, as he played both positions)
2B - Rod Carew
SS - Greg Gagne
3B - Gary Gaetti
OF - Bob Allison, Kirby Puckett, and I can't remember who else.  Larry Hisle, maybe?

Randy Bush was selected as their greatest pinch hitter, and I think Molitor was picked as the greatest DH (you wouldn't put him on the ROM for them, though, since he didn't play for them until '95).

Good work Beef, Thanks didn't know Killebrew played 3rd, that should help out the Twins.  I'm think Brunansky will be their 3rd OF.

After looking it over, I think they probably had Killebrew as the OF and Gaetti at 3B.

I know Killebrew never played outfield; I'm pretty much positive that they just doubled up at either 1B or 3B.  They may have done the same thing at SS with Greg Gagne and Zoilo Versailles, too.  I still have the program from that game, which has the whole team listed; I'll check it out when I get home.

The Twins don't acknowledge their Senators heritage much (although they did have Walter Johnson bobblehead day this year), and that all-time team was Twins-only.  It was for the Twins' 40th season, so I suppose that makes sense, now that I think about it.

I went for the Mets, because I grew up with them being one of my teams.

Here's the list, straight from the program:

Tom Kelly - Manager
Earl Battey - Catcher
Kent Hrbek - First Base
Rod Carew - Second Base
Greg Gagne - Shortstop
Zoilo Versailles - Shortstop
Gary Gaetti - Third Base
Harmon Killebrew - Third Base
Bob Allison - Outfield
Tony Oliva - Outfield (duh! I can't believe I forgot him!)
Kirby Puckett - Outfield

Starting pitchers - Bert Blyleven, Camilo Pasqual, Jim Perry, Jim Kaat, Frank Viola
Relief Pitchers - Rick Aguilera, Jeff Reardon, Al Worthington

Paul Molitor - Designated Hitter
Cesar Tovar - Utility Player
Randy Bush - Pinch Hitter

This team was put together in 2000, but the only players ineligible for your team would be Aguilera and Molitor.

Decided to put Killebrew in the OF so Gaetti could be at 3rd, will have to put Oliva or Allison on the bench. probably Allison.

I now understand why the Indians weren't in the arcade, basicall there entire team is from 1960 or earlier, I bumped Brook Jacoby and Joe Carter into the starting lineup just because they were more recent players.

I'm gonna go with the Expos sorry Angels fans, despite the slight lead, they simply had no one from to use.  They didn't have much in the 60s and 70s and most of there other players are on other teams.  The Mets may have been deserving but I hate the Mets and it would have been mostly the NES team.

The Expos are only missing Dawson to the Cubs which leaves Raines, Carter, Wallach, Brooks, Gallaraga and others so they will be the one.

ROM should be done next week, Batters, batting orders, and batters data have been decided.

Pitchers have been decided, pitching data about 1/2 done.

Hopefully will finish data on Monday and build ROM Tuesday/Wednesday.

Long long bumpst...

Whatever happened with this? I'd seriously consider buying this if it was made for the NES

ROM is done, link on the ROMs page, there is also a text file there with stats. I too would buy this if made for NES.
