We all know Ruppert is a great RBI player, but I just found an interesting comparison from early on in his career. From ages 22 - 24, these are the players that Ruppert most closely resembled (based on stats) at the the same age:
22 - Willie Mays (976) *
23 - Reggie Smith (984)
24 - Dwight Evans (977)
This is some pretty good company for Jones to keep, unfortunately, from ages 25 - 27, he most closely resembled:
25 - Oddibe McDowell (972)
26 - Oddibe McDowell (971)
27 - Oddibe McDowell (963)
and it didn't get any better from there, so in respect to Ruppert, I'll leave it at that.
Here is the site if you want to check it out or see how another favorite player compares on your own:

I saw the site, but what to the numbers in parentheses mean?
A great article on Roop:

I use this site all the time (and two others to do some research) Here is a link that explains the numbers. It is a pretty neat systems to group simillar players together that have simillar stats

Baseball Reference is a tremendous site, so much so that they are only page sponsored by dee-nee.com!! Note the top of Harry Spilman's page:

Impressive!!! Most impressive!!!
Not really, it only cost me $5 for a year - Spilman was in the "Grade F" category as far as sponsorships go. It's good to support that site, since it's run by a few fans...
i was referring to the effort
That cracks me up that there are Harry Spilman fans out there.

vgp,
the numbers in parenthesis indicate a score that tells how similar, based on stats, two players are. If I understand the scoring correctly, the closer 2 players are to 1,000, the closer they are. So, based on stats, at age 22 Ruppert was remarkably close to Willie Mays at the same age.
i am sure that if you asked rupert, he would admit that he is happier to be a stud in rbi...
