I see a lot of banter about lefty hitters vs. righty hitters. Personally, I like hitting with same handed hitters and pitching to opposite hand hitters (contrary to popular opinion in actual baseball).
I think backdoor curves are effective to opposite hand hitters. More than 50% of my K's are looking. Plus, you can really throw "cutters" to opposite handed hitters a la Mo Rivera. You can saw guys off.
I can understand wanting a lefty hitter to get a "Pettis," but certain right handed hitters can beat out a ball in the deep hole to short, even if it is fielded cleanly. Ground balls to right side are usually outs.
Please reply to this very important matter.
i agree.
i play with detroit and they have a fury of lefts which is good because most of the pitching is right handed [clemons, ryan] and i like the play coming in at me instead of going away. it is ALOT tuffer to hit righties with right handed batters, but no so much with lefties and left handed batters. all the leftie pitchers in the game, all the pitches tail in some form. i love the rightie vs lefty thou in both forms.

Yet another conflict in styles...
In straight pitch, the lefty-lefty & (to a lesser extent) righty-righty matchups are clearly the advantage of the pitcher. I agree with you though in curve, I like using lefty pitchers against righty batters. Give me Tudor against the BoSox over Gooden...
As for the Pettis, it is effective because you are intentionally hitting the grounder to short. This is much easier to do with a lefty batter than a righty. Well, at least it is for me, though I never have really tried too many righty Pettis hits. If you can do the same hit intentionally with a righty, then it might work. I hardly ever see righties beat out grounders to short....
lefties get jammed more than righties do... that is because of the cutter which gets in on their hands. righties seem to be able to get around on the ball better but that is just my humble opinion.
as far as the pettis', or dinkfucks as me and t call them, the lefties have the advantage....you see the "losing any control over the shortstop" manuver than you do with the second baseman..this gives lefties the advantage on protecting the outside of the plate...however, ive found that righties do seem to hit the inside pitch much better than lefties...brunksy is the master of this...taking the inside pitch off the screen...its great
