Title: post your team rankings.....
Post by: TbT on 12/16/04, 09:57:07 PM
FOR CURVE PITCHING ONLY!

just curious where most teams rank in the curve pitching scheme of things....we recenty played a tourney and stlouis won the dang thing, mainly cause of thier speed all over the line-up getting cheap hits, then stealing bases.  oh and daryl strawberry went like 1 for 20 in the whole tourney.....that friggin bum  >:(

well have at it....whats yer list look like?

Wow, that's shocking.  I'm guessing StL won more because the player who had them than the actual team itself.

I'd put StL in the bottomw 1/3 of my rankings...

The rankings should be exactly the same, since the players don't change.  It's the human factor that changes in curve.  If you can easily judge balls and strikes, and have patience at the plate, then a power team will clearly be beneficial.  If you have trouble making good contact, a speed team like the Cards would probably be best.

I think San Fran is the best...good pitching and power.

Disregarding the All-Star teams (assume 2 starters)

1 - Bos
2 - Cali
3 - Det
4 - SF
5 - Minn
6 - NY
7 - STL
8 - Houston

This changes for me all the time, often I am not so good using the top 2-3 teams, but I really have a difficult time playing against those teams.

I think using 1 starter this list can be different because bullpen and having 1 stud starter is much more important

im not the expert, but i think i like boston as the best, due to the heavy right handed hitting line-up.....i seem to just suck with lefties in curve.

also ive read about the super fast throws from the catcher when guys are trying to steal, but do those work against the mega fast guys like coleman, and lopes?

Coleman is the fastest guy in the game, depending on the speed of the pitch he can sometimes steal 2nd without you being able to stop it.  The others can usually be caught with perfect throws unless pitch is really slow.

Detriot
~~~~~
Boston
Cali
~~~~~
Minnesota
NY
San Fran
~~~~~
St Louis
Houston
Tiered rankings are most appropriate I think.
Spelling "Detriot" correctly is even more appropriate, I think...
Detroit
California
Boston
Minnesota
San Francisco
New York
St. Louis
Houston
This is the order if I was playing a three game series, curve pitch, one starter.  Lines represent big dropoffs.
Boston
Detroit
______
SF
Cal (woeful bullpen puts them below SF)
NY Mets (in game 2 you can wait out ojeda and he'd be done in 5th- tough to get 12+ outs with Jesse and Roger)
St Louis
______
Houston
Minn
A side note on Houston.  Ryan, Scott and Kerfeld are studs.  If you use Lopes for Hatcher, Garner for Walling and Puhl for Reynolds or Ashby- it's not a bad lineup.  Bass and Davis can kill you.  Cruz can go deep, and I like Billy Doran's speed and heart.
You have Minnesota as the worst 1 starter team?  I think they are the best one starter team or at least close to the best.
Although I love Blyleven, I can't stand their lineup.  Awful leadoff hitter. Pitch around 2-3-4-5 and then awful 6-7-8 with no good hitters on bench.  I admit they have a tough heart of order, but you can be careful, nibble and pitch around them.  Laudner, Gagne, Gladden, Lombo are garbage, and Smalley, Larkin, Davidson are not much better.
They have no bench, that is true, but it can't be that easy to pitch around 3 straight batters, and Launder is not bad either.
actually i need to pitch around 4 straight batters.  but then gagne, laudner, lombo, pitcher, gladden.  i can get those guys out with one pitch apiece.
curve:
1. boston
2. minnesota
(the only two teams i ever use when playing a serious opponent in a series in a format where multiple teams aren't required)
3. new york
4. california
5. san francisco
6. detroit
7. st louis
8. houston
straight pitch:
1. california
2. boston
3. detroit
(boston probably isn't a better straight pitch team than detroit, but i am better with them simply because i am so used to the lineup)
4. san francisco
5. minnesota
6. new york
7. st louis
8. houston
