Title: Gary Pettis
Post by: Wilfong on 12/22/04, 09:59:00 AM
GP is the hitting coach with the Brewers AAA Nashville team. We can only hope that he's teaching the Brewers' young prospects the "Pettis." Seriously, how is that guy a hitting coach?

thats piss poor by MLB standards, but i suppose its better than being a .300 hitter in the minors for the extent of your proffesional baseball carreer.

Noah G hit the nail on the head, or should i say his dad did.......he made it and got pid to do what millions could only hope for, heck i wish i was a shitty MLB player  ;D

Yeah, and now he's attempting to improve the hitting of 25 other guys who also made it to the major leagues.  In theory, he should be better than them.

Actually he is a AAA hitting coach, maybe we should check his career AAA batting avg, maybe it was .397

He's probably the hitting coach because, hmmmm, I don't know...he made it to the fucking MAJOR LEAGUES??  My dad always used to get pissed when my brother and I would be watching a game and we would say, "god, that guy SUCKS!"  My Dad would reply, sarcastically, "Yeah, he sucks bad, he's in major league baseball...he sucks alright."  But yeah...Pettis sucks cock in RBI.   :)  Wilfong is probably my favorite player in RBI.

my dad used to do the same damn thing.  you could say "god, that guy SUCK!...relative to other major league baseball players, who are all much much much better than I am!" but it just takes too long.

According to this article, Pettis is moving to AA.  Am I reading something wrong?

Wilfong is amazing - I love unleashing him on unsuspecting people. They'll never understand that those 3 HRs translate to so much more in RBI. I took great satisfaction in Wilfong having the game winning hit against a friend who intentionally walked someone to get to him.

As for Pettis, is there a non-pitcher RBIer with a lower career batting average than him? Maybe some pitchers even have a higher career avg.  Unless the Brewers brought him in specifically for RBI and the Pettis reasons, I think it's a huge mistake.

This was in the JS this morning:

it's about halfway through the article.

So after (very) limited research, I'm going to say that Marc Sullivan has the lowest career average for an RBIer at .186 in 426 ABs, is that enough to officially make him the worst? (not counting how he performs in the game) Even though dude who sponsored his page said "Quite possibly the worst player I have ever seen." Gotta love something like that, maybe he's on dee-nee?

I think that Nightwulf disspelled the "Wilfong myth" in regard to anything goes (curve) games.  Wilfong is probably a complete stud in straight pitch because you are so much more likely to get "solid" contact on the bat...but you take that away, and Wilfong is extremely streaky.

I'm not sure, in his PH AB he would have 880 power which is very good, his contact of 29, while not great is far from the worst, his PH AB is very close to what Ruppert will give you in his Non-PH ABs.

Maybe I misread here, but you big-time Wilfong supports aren't solely referring to his 1st ab, right?

I agree with Noah, Wilfong plays the whole game for me. He's particularly streaky in curve pitch, but in straight pitch, more often than not, he'll get the job done for me - especially against righties.

A friend of mine (who hasn't played in like 10-15 years) challenged me to a game of straigh pitch, I'm CA and he's NY, he says I don't have a chance...I'm going to enjoy that one.
