Tough lefty batter facing you. Two outs bases juiced, tie score. Who do you give the ball to?
Same question vs. righty.
I go Blyleven vs. lefty and Rocket vs. righty.
Gooden or Orosco. Righty or Lefty: doesn't matter to me with these guys. With Gooden's heat and range, i can jam either one. I have a knack for jamming hitters with Orosco's side arm delivery too.
This is a no-brainer for the dee-nee crew in straight pitch - Willie Hernandez...
Why is Willie so good in straight pitch? Lefty with a good fast ball? Looks like he has big speed differential also (Between Fastball and Regular)
Tough righty facing me--I give the ball to John "the man" Tudor...actually, the situation would never really happen, though, 'cause Tudor would be my starter everytime. If that's factored in, I'd hand the ball to one Mister Mister Uncle Jesse...although Gantry is right--you can't go wrong with Willie.
Tough lefty facing me--I give the ball to Clemens...and if must be a reliever, then I'm giving it to Bedrosian,
I agree, Tudor is my guy no matter what the situation is. If I have to pick top lefty/righty starters and relievers it would be Tudor, Doc K and Orosco/Kerfield. Kerfield always gets the big outs for me. Does anyone else put Donnie Moore in clutch situations just for laughs?
Oooh, that's cold! ;)
As with real life, in RBI, Donnie Moore is the guy i want to face when down a couple runs with runners on.
i go to brett saberhagen, i like to use the side-arm sweeping slider to hit paint the black.
i love tutski also, but ojeda has just as much movement. not the endurance certainly, but i said just for one batter.
rocket can also get in your kitchen but it's a gamble because if you guess right and move in off the plate then you may connect.
I think RBI should have added a special animation scene for games when Donnie gave up the winning bomb. Or maybe he would be the headline in Tengen news?
Tudor all the way around. My affection for him is well known.
For a righty/lefty if I have to choose, I'm going with Doc.
For relievers, lefty/righty has gotta be Uncle Jesse and righty/lefty is Senor Smoke.
Am I the only one here that thinks Reardon is better than Sr Smoke? :-\
reardon has more movement than sr smoke. it also seems like sr smoke has limited endurance, and if you connect then it goes a mile.
that staff might be the best foursome top to bottom in the league.
if you play 2 sp (which i don't like to play), bly 1-4, viola 5-7, smoke 8, beard 9. game over.
i love the fact that you're slowly getting used to it, though. :)
One problem with 1 SP is, though, that once you figure out the best SP for you against each team, you never use the other...gets a little repetitive, as I recall...
the way i play it is a three game series, and you alternate who starts each game (e.g. gooden g1, ojeda g2, gooden g3)
i know that blyleven no no and burks 4 leadoff play the same way.
they actually have a notebook and chronicle all their three game series.
If I need one out, I'm going with Bedrosian and Tudor as my two "stoppers"...
I used to play 5 game series in college and we played completely anything goes. We figured if someone was willing to go without a starter for a game, then they were free to use two in one. From what I understand, the national tournament guys play one game at a time, so it makes sense to allow 2 starters a game. Otherwise, like Joe Dirte said, you'd always use the same one starter for each team.
Uncle Jesse and Bedrock are certainly nasty, I just can't throw with sidearmers. i can't hit them either. Kerfeld strikes me out 92% of the time and the other 8% i ground out weakly to walling.

JoeDirt is now JoeDirty, since that's how he plays...
