ROM and rosters attached, games start today...hopefully, with videos...
can someone briefly explain what this fantasy league is all about? thanks
Basically, eight of us drafted teams based on the players from the game. Thanks to Nightwulf's RBI Editor, we can make ROMs with each drafted team, and simulate games in Watch mode. As commissioner, I simulate the games, write up stats and a recap, and make a video of the game that everyone else can watch later. We're currently in week 10 of 14, with playoffs to follow for the top 4 teams.
Gantry gave me space for a Web site, which probably doesn't explain it as well as it should, but you can get the idea: http://fantasyrbi.rbicentral.com/ (http://fantasyrbi.rbicentral.com/)
Video of the Nimrods/Creamy Pirates game (http://fantasyrbi.rbicentral.com/Media/Media.html) is up at the Fantasy RBI Media page. Game report later...
do you have draft order listed anywhere?

Great game by the new acquisition, I knew Bert just needed some love.

I bumped the thread
man, i'd love to get in on this when next season starts.
comments on draft- gedman, madlock, boone, laudner were taken WAY too high.
i guess i can understand why pitchers were taken so low (computer plays games). if this were a "real" league where we were playing out the games, i would take pitchers a lot higher.
- Since each team needed a catcher in the starting line-up, you didn't want to get stuck with having to start Tony Pena if you didn't have to...also, I would argue that looking at the stats, Gedman was drafted just fine where he was.
- Bert was untouchable today. My season is pretty much toast at this point - I don't understand how the whole team could just decide to stop hitting after, like, Week 5 (Ripken and Brookens excluded). I'm very, very disappointed in Darryl...

Game Summary:
Apparently, it was a change of scenary that was needed. Making his first start since being traded from The Poopydicks, Bert Blyleven pitched a complete game to lead The Nimrods to a 14-7 victory over The Creamy Pirates in a Fantasy RBI League game played Tuesday afternoon at Tengen Stadium.
The victory broke a two-game losing streak for The Nimrods (7-3), who moved a half-game ahead of The Stiffs for the league lead. Tom Brunansky and Tim Laudner each homered twice, while Andre Dawson continued his torrid hitting pace by going 5-for-5, including a first-inning home run.
The Creamy Pirates (3-7) continued to freefall, dropping their fifth straight game. They managed only seven runs despite collecting 17 hits. However, they stranded seven runners and hit into two double plays. Tom Brookens was the lone offensive star for the Creamy Pirates, hitting two home runs and driving in three.

Note that each team had to have 1 C 3 OF and 4 IF so Catchers were at somewhat of a premium and there aren't as many big hitting IFs as there are OFs
What a game by Bertus, mclane you drunken fool!
To be fair, Herbert had, like, a plus-23.00 ERA going into the game, I think. Trust me, my sorry-assed offense could make Bruce Hurst look like Cy Young...

And it was bad timing for USC, having to face Bert the week he goes out with something to prove, all the media coverage of this start, the Nimrod fans were looking for any change from the Hefty Mexican who had been struggling, they will be embracing Bert this week.
In fact, I think that was written into Bert's contract, that after every "quality start" he gets to be embraced by the fans. With his privates...
drugs stranding a pair bottom 2 killed you.
Let's see...
Bottom of the 1st:
Molitor is tagged out going to third with two outs. The top of the second starts with a Brookens HR, which would have been a three-run shot if Molitor hadn't ended the last inning...
Bottom of the 2nd:
Two on with one out and I get a pop out (Molitor) and a strike out (Darryl)
Bottom of the 3rd and 4th:
Inning-ending double plays.
Story of my season...
Brookens would have been pitched to differently with men on so you can't assume he would have done same thing. Molly going to third with two outs is a bad play though regardless. I'd like to see the play but I am worried if I try to download the video I am going to crash my company's network. Did he try to go first to third on a single to center?
First to third on a single to left center. He was out by at least five RBI feet.
In Watch games, the pitcher doesn't throw to a player any differently with men on than with no one on. Trust me, TB was hitting that home run no matter what.
(If you just open the link to each video clip, it should stream to your computer instead of having to download the whole thing...)
Fuck Bert...and yes, I'm a drunken fool.

I'm also very interested in signing up on the next season, if there's room for another.
Myself as well.
We'll have to limit it to 10 teams, unless someone else can think of a way to work having the league have more teams that we have players to fill roster spots...But we'll cross that bridge when we get to it...

I'd say maybe you could combine NES and Arcade rosters...
But you still can't have more than 10 teams on 1 ROM.
You'd have to run 2 ROMs and switch who is on each ROM every week to make sure that the teams playing each other are on the same ROM. Not to mention that the time involved to run a league of more than 10 teams (20 teams would be 10 games each week?) and to update and manage 2 ROMs.
Shut up, Ultimate! Who asked you?!
You could have a National and American league, run by separate people, with the two champs meeting up in the WS. It would be like the good old days, before Bud Selig and all the shitty expansion teams.
That's a great idea!
I was debating an option like what BeeJay proposed. Basically, two different leagues each each draw from the RBI roster, with league winners meeting in the World Series (and maybe some interleague play). So, you could have two teams playing in the World Series, each with Reggie Jackson on their roster, for example.
Video of the Stiffs/Poopydicks game (http://fantasyrbi.rbicentral.com/Media/Media.html) is on the Web site. Recap later.
Good game, Nando did well
Game Summary:
It took eight innings for The Stiffs' bats to wake up, but they woke up in time. The Stiffs scored nine runs in the final two innings to defeat The Poopydicks 16-11 in a Fantasy RBI League game played Wednesday afternoon at Tengen Stadium.
Kent Hrbek's solo home run in the top of the ninth was the go-ahead run for The Stiffs (7-3), who remained tied with The Nimrods for first place with the victory. Hrbek homered twice, while Bob Brenly drove in four.
The Poopydicks (4-6) received a quiality outing from Fenando Valenzuela in his first game with the team. In three innings of relief, the rotund screwballer gave up one earned run on five hits. Ruppert Jones and Darrell Evans each homered and drove in four for The Poopydicks.

Willie Hernandez and Donnie Moore putting up zeros in the 8th and 9th! Good game
Donnie Moore won't kill himself this week!
Hey fighton...just curious, do you have a program that generates this extremely detailed box scores, or do you have to take serious notes of each game and then type 'em up? Either way--great job!
I found a program called Baseball ScoreBook that has a free shareware demo version. Basically, I can't save the final boxes as text files (I'd have to buy the program to be able to do that), so I just take a screen grab of the box and post it.
The OC vs. ShitPaws game is completed, and the video is up at the site. I'll post the box score later today.
Game Summary:
Home field advantage hasn't always meant much in the Fantasy RBI League. But it did on Thursday for Da ShitPaws after The OC scored two runs in the top of the 11th inning. When George Bell and Don Mattingly both lined out with the bases loaded, and with Eric King tiring, the home advantage gave Da ShitPaws a chance to win the game in the bottom of the inning.
Which they did, as Tim Teufel drilled a walk-off single off the left center field wall to drive in Tony Armas and give Da ShitPaws a 15-14 victory and sole possession of third place. Da ShitPaws (6-4) remained a game back of the league leaders while picking up their fifth consecutive victory.
The loss ruined the homecoming of former ShitPaws slugger Mike Schmidt, traded to The OC (5-5) for Terry Pendleton earlier in the season. Schmidt hit a pair of home runs and drove in four in his first game against his former team. Pendleton had a much rougher game, going 1-for-7.
Da ShitPaws had a balanced offense. They were again led by Tony Armas, who homered and drove in three as part of a 5-for-7 afternoon.

as napoleon dynamite would say: dang
I would fire your third base coach, immediately. You lost at least three runs off of shoddy baserunning.
Video of the BeefMaster/Fighting Tony Danzas game is up on the site. We had our first stolen base of the year, so that's interesting...
Game Summary:
I don't know what to say...At least it was quick?

The forces of Good triumph again! My boyz are on a roll, and my negative feelings for Reggie are subsiding after another good game.
Fucking shit. Raines did get the SB, so dee-nee to him. The rest of those fuckers can take it in the ass from Key.
