Going to the new forum software, faster porn soon!
Test post with the new software...
...and I'd say it works... :P
Yes, the upgrade was oh so painless, check the thread in anything goes if you notice things that aren't right. Or new features, since we're all a little green with the software update...
New stats are cool, post per day, plus in profile you can check out posts per board and posts per time of day. Also able to upload your own icon, sweet.
Lots of neat little tricks added. Though it's a completely rewrite of the software, it behaves just like the old one. All-in-all a good upgrade...
The quick reply thing is pretty cool

what's that?
Wow, this is cool! Click on your name, then go to Look and Layout Preferences - you can enable quick reply all the time. It shows on the bottom of the thread and you can reply on the same page...
Another cool new feature is that you can click on the people online and see the list of what everyone is doing, I highlighed some unusual or obvious occurences, note Joe Dirt constantly checking his tourney, one Guest checking an ancient RNI thread about Ground Ball Attribute, and 3 different guests checking the Favorite Beer thread:

I know you have that thread open all day, just hoping someone will post :)

What do you suppose this is?
Maybe the guest was not in the forums, but looking at other parts of the Dee-Nee site, does it track that?
Quick reply is sweet.
Here's another strange one, I've never printed anything from the forums before
Guest 11:23:38 AM Printing the topic "dee-nee.com updates for 8/16/2004".
Guest 01:23:45 PM Requesting a password reminder.
These new features have me wasting time at record levels.
Guest 05:53:39 PM Printing the topic "BOOYA!(NSFW)"
Ha ha, these new stats crack me up. If someone prints out my mecha Blyleven picture, I'm suing for copyright infringement.
its already my wallpaper
Wow, very cool feature!
Note that a lot of the guest shit is crazy because they are search engines poking around the site. They are computers looking at all the pages & links, google & msn are a decent percentage of my hits on dee-nee proper...

This doesn't really explain the printing of topics by Guests which I am finding to be fairly common, what are they doing printing to screen, is this how they archive it somehow?

It's possible, as the page generated by clicking "print" is much cleaner and more suitable for search engines. That said, I doubt any of the various webcrawlers used by search engines make that kind of distinction. They'd have to be able to identify when they're viewing pages generated by SMF software. This seems trivial, and it probably is, but remember that they'd need to make similar distinctions for every application commonly found that generates web content.
What's more likely is that they're simply following links. The main function of a webcrawler is to open and parse every link it ever finds. A "print" link is included on every topic page, and thus will be opened by any webcrawler looking for more information.
Nightwulf
Exactly what nightwulf said, the crawlers typically follow every link on a page (unless excluded by a robots.txt file on the webserver, which I don't use). One of those links is the print link, hence the "print" activity when you look. No actual printing is done, mind you, just a computer going to the print link and recording the info that is sent back...
Spotted just now:
Guest 03:43:53 PM Printing the topic "Offical Hot Chicks Thread and Liquor Thread (NSFW!!!)".
Must need some, um, bathroom reading.

So it's officially been over a year since the new time stats have been kept, about 371 days now and BDawk has spent over 51 full days out of the 371 on Dee-Nee, over 13% of all of his time. Impressive.
I think the time online thing started sometime in Nov '04.

I'm nor really here all the time. I'm just on the internet all the time and I never log out. I'm pretty sure that keeps my tally counting. I wish I had time to just sit and stare at dee-nee all day, but sadly no.
If I hadn't deleted my account like a vagina, I'd be right there with you, I think that everytime you hit a forum link it counts as at least fifteen minutes whether you log in or out, whenever I'm on the internet I check out dee-nee, so my timer's always counting.

I don't think this is true because I'm in and out all the time for just a minute or 2, and I don't rack up much time
My bad, I know that sometimes at work I get logged out and when I check in as a guest it still shows my name as active, which kinda freaks me out.
