Title: Fantasy League Week 13
Post by: fightonusc on 01/18/05, 12:46:51 PM
All right, it's heating up now. First game this week is the big one: The Nimrods @ The Stiffs. The winner clinches the regular season title and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. Video and box score later today after the game is played.

Anyone have thoughts/predictions on the game?

Nimrods by less than 5, I can't go against my team

For interest of fairness, I voted "other" (impartiality and all...)

Personally, I see a battle of bullpens, and that's something The Stiffs have been very good with lately. But is it time for a bullpen meltdown? We shall see.

You should add, "Neither team could beat the Patriots" to the Poll, it is bound to get a vote.

I know those Nimrods took it to us last time, but we've retooled for our playoff run.  I feel like donnie and willie are gonna come up big once again and shut down the red hot nimrod's offense in the 8th and 9th.  Plus hrbek is out to prove he is indeed this year's MVP.  Should be a great game

After much anticipation, delay and controversy,  the video of The Nimrods @ The Stiffs game for the Fantasy RBI Regular Season Championship is up at the Web site. (http://fantasyrbi.rbicentral.com/Media/Media.html) As I stated earlier, this game more than lived up to the hype...

Game Summary:

It had everything that a classic game should: comebacks, controversy and a result that wasn't decided until the final at-bat. In a clash on Tuesday that decided the Fantasy RBI League regular season title, The Nimrods were able to hold off a gutty effort by The Stiffs to take a 19-17 victory in front of a sold out crowd at Tengen Stadium and clinch home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

The Stiffs (9-4) had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the ninth. But with two outs and runners on second and third, Nimrods reliever Jesse Orosco was able to get Jack Clark to pop out to preserve the victory. The final out touched off a raucous on-field celebration for The Nimrods (10-5), which included in annual ritual of breaking Dave Dravecky's arm in the post-game pile-up.

Meanwhile, there were reports of several disturbances in New York, the home base of The Stiffs. However, it was later determined that what was happening was not in fact rioting related to the game, but was what the NYPD described as "Tuesday night."

The Nimrods opened up a 9-0 lead after the top of the second, and looked to be in control of the game. however, the Nimrods were able to come back and eventually tie the score in the sixth inning, thanks in large part to a seven-run fourth inning. The Nimrods answered by rebuilding the lead to 17-13 before The Stiffs scored four times in the eighth to again the score.

But Gary Gaetti put The Nimrods ahead for good with a solo home run in the top of the ninth. It was one of two hoime runs for Gaetti. Tom Brunansky also homered twice for The Nimrods, and they were one of five teammates to drive in three runs.

Jose Canseco had a huge day for The Stiffs, mashing three home runs and driving in four. The much-touted match-up between MVP candidates Andre Dawson and Kent Hrbek took second stage during the game. Neither player homered, and each only drove in one run. (Dawson did score three runs.)

Despite the loss, The Stiffs still will have home field advantage in their first round game against a yet-to-be determined opponent.

Great game by both teams - clearly, there was a lot of heart being displayed by both teams. Now, at least they have a week to recover and get fired back up for the playoffs.

Man, if you would have given GreatScott the chance to have Jack Clark up with two on and two outs and down by two in the bottom of the ninth, I think that he would have liked those odds going into it. Hats off to Uncle Jesse for closing the door on the game.

a dissapointment but a great game nonetheless.  Im a bit unhappy imagining orosco throwing that last pitch and then leaping up like he did in 86 when the sox went down for good.  Im sure big jack will have an ax to grind in the upcoming playoffs.  Looking forward to it and to celebrating in Ultimates house in the WS.

btw ... was this game replayed or was it continued from the error point?

Well done, sentence-in-a-big-post of the week potential...

All this bashing on Minnesota on the other threads and look how huge The Nimrods big3 performed...

I hate to argue with the official scorekeeper, but it seems to me about 3 of Blyleven's runs should have been unearned, also, I thought Uncle Jesse earned a Save.  In any case, quite a game.

Nice vultured win by Kerfeld.  A gift from the official scorer as he certainly was not "effective".

BTW, please include me in next season.

Uncle Jesse did get the save - for some reason, the program doesn't mark saves on the box score, even though there is a way to record them. It's odd. But, he'll get the save when the stats come out next week.

Game Summary:

The OC needed a clutch performance by Dwight Gooden on Friday, and they sure did get one. Gooden threw a complete game to lead The OC to a 12-5 victory over  BeefMaster at Tengen Stadium to take firm command of their playoff destiny. With the victory, The OC moved to 7-6, one game ahead of BeefMaster and a half game ahead of Da ShitPaws.

George Bell lead The OC with two home runs. Wade Boggs added three RBI, including a two-run home run.

Meanwhile, BeefMaster (6-7) couldn't get much generated against Gooden, and had trouble capitalizing when they did. No one on the team could drive in more than one run during the game.

The OC finishes the season against the Poopydicks, while BeefMaster travels to take on The Nimrods.

Poopydicks/Creamy Pirates video is up at the Web site (http://fantasyrbi.rbicentral.com/Media/Media.html). An entertaining game that may have some playoff implications yet. Box score and recap to come.

And sorry this is dragging out so long. Work has been extra busy, so I've been having to work through my lunch hour (which is usually my time to edit video and upload games).

Game Summary:

The Poopydicks roughed up The Creamy Pirates' relief pitching to pull away with a 26-21 victory on Monday afternoon at Tengen Stadium to keep their playoff hopes alive with one game remaining in the Fantasy RBI Baseball League season.

The Poopydicks (6-7) scored eight times in the eighth and twice in the ninth to rally from a five-run deficit. John Franco picked up the win in relief by throwing two innings of shutout, one-hit baseball. The big three for The Poopydicks delivered, headed by Darrell Evans, who cracked four home runs and drove in seven to pace the offense. Ruppert Jones added three home runs and five RBI, while Chili Davis added a homer while driving in four.

Dale Murphy and Cal Ripken each drove in five for The Creamy Pirates (4-9), with Murphy adding two home runs. With the loss, the Creamy Pirates were mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.

Video of Da ShitPaws/Fighting Tony Danzas game is up at the site. (http://fantasyrbi.rbicentral.com/Media/Media.html) Recap and box to follow. Certainly, for The OC, The Poopydicks and BeefMaster, this game is of great importance in the playoff chase...
Title: Re: Fantasy League Week 13
Post by: fightonusc on 01/24/05, 05:52:59 PM
Game Summary:

The Fighting Tony Danzas embraced the role of spoiler on Monday night, shocking Da ShitPaws 13-2 in a five-inning rout at Tengen Stadium to throw the Fantasy RBI Baseball playoff race into chaos with one game remaining.

Big offensive games by Kirk Gibson and Craig Reynolds gave Fighting Tony Danzas (4-9) pitcher Roger Clemens all the run support he needed. Clemens gave up two runs on  four hits over four innings, while Jack Morris pitched a scoreless fifth. Offensively, Gibson and Reynolds each hit three-run home runs as part of the Fighting Tony Danza's game-ending eight run fifth inning.

Meanwhile, Da ShitPaws could not get on track offensively. The lone bright spot was Terry Pendleton's solo home run in the second inning. With the loss, Da ShitPaws fell into a three-way tie for the fourth and final playoff spot with BeefMaster and The Poopydicks. All three team trail third place The OC by one game.

Title: Re: Fantasy League Week 13
Post by: fightonusc on 01/24/05, 07:05:54 PM
Right now, that's how it's going to need to be. Crunching some numbers, here's what I've come up with...

- I believe that I can say that The OC has clinched a playoff spot - based on head-to-head play as the first tiebreaker and run differential as the second tiebreaker, even if they lose next week, they still would hold enough tiebreakers against any other team thanks to their large RD to go through.

- If BeefMaster wins, they'll get the other playoff spot (by virtue of having swept the season series over you and having a much better RD than Da ShitPaws).

- If BeefMaster loses, it gets interesting. The Poopydicks would advance with a victory regardless of what Da ShitPaws do (again, thanks to The Poopydick's season sweep of Da ShitPaws).

- The only way that I see Da ShitPaws advancing is if they win, and both The Poopydicks and BeefMaster loses (since they would lose a tiebreaker against either team).
