That's right folks, Potsie (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/potsie.shtml) Lips (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/lipitz.shtml), Sperling (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/sperling.shtml) and myself (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/gantry.shtml) head to Dekalb for three days of drinking and RBI! This is the land of Northern Illinois University, the home of the RBI Baseball Drinking Game (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/drink.shtml) and the reason dee-nee.com exists. We have deluxe accomidations for Friday/Saturday night at the Best Western Dekalb, which is actually a step up from our usual lodging at the Travelodge (aka ghettolodge)....
Friday night will be Riding the Rail , which basically means this - 9 different 16oz beers at legendary Dekalb watering hole Mollys, get a tshirt to prove it, switch to hard liquor (at the dirt-cheap collegiate rate), get obnoxious, begin to black out, stumble home, wake up early and hungover. Saturday night we'll be attending the NIU vs. Ohio wrestling dual and plan to spend the later pm and evening playing RBI. We will be bringing two NES decks (just to be safe) and aren't quite sure what we'll be doing...
I ask you, the dee-nee community, to suggest the proper drinking tournament for our RBI endeavors. Round robin? Elimination? Slurve? Bad teams only? What do you think would be a novel way to play RBI in the promised land?
My initial idea is the ever-so-fun technique of "opponent chooses subs" - standard drinking rules but the twist is that your opponent makes any and all batting substitutions. Boone for Potatoes? Sullivan for Rice? Adds a little strategy to the mix...
I'll bring the laptop and hopefully we'll get dialup acess from the Best Western. If we do, expect MANY incoherent posts on Friday and Saturday. Dee-Nee!
I don't think you can sub Boone for Potatoes
Good point.
Fine, Burleson for Potatoes...
this should be a poll
For CA, you should bat Rupperto in the leadoff spot.
mabye he means Boone from LOST
RBI is working full-speed in Dekalb, we went for a "choose your opponents teams & subs" tourney. Potsie (Mn) beats Me (NY) 8-6. The highlights (if you can call them that):
Lombardozzi gets a 2-run HR against me, I still can't belive it
2 dingers for Laudner, I should have left Puckett in
Wally Backman goes 4-4
Sperling (Stl) and Lips (Hou) up now, 2-1 Lips in the 4th
Winners face off, and they choose two different teams...

Never heard of it. Sounds like a fun idea, though.
QuoteWally Backman goes 4-4
Has anybody ever seen a Backman HR? I never ever ever leave him in, so I can't say that I have...
A new high in low
Lips beats Sperling 3-2, here it goes:
9th inning - Sperling has McGee up with one out and runners on first and third. Base hit to right, runner scores. The ball gets past the outfielder and sperling starts to head towards 3rd. Lips makes a good throw to third so sperling quickly goes back to second. But Sperling doesn't realize that the hitter went to second base and is just standing 5 feet from the bag, because someone is already on second. Lips throws to first and Sperling finally realizes what is going on, so he moves the runner on second and the batter goes to second.
Lips throws to third and because the batter is on second, the runner between 2nd & 3rd 's is essentially stuck. Sperling still runs back to second and Lipitz follows him for the automatic tagout. But for some reason Sperling moves the runner at second base and Lipitz tags them both out within half-a-second. Game over...
Hope that made sense, you had to see it to believe it...
And no we are not drunk....
I just beat Potsie. A couple of huge innings for me. But since we had subs, I remember nothing. In like the 5th inning, I went back to back to back to back...and nearly had one more when I hit the very top of the fence.
Anyways, Potsie was up by 1 going into the bottom of the ninth inning. Pettis lead of the inning and I tried the late swing to SS hit... Potsie had a very nice throw to first, to get the out. DC came up huge with a homer to tie up the game...and then the Burly Sac came up and went yard. Nice come from behind game...
G is playing Mark right now, with the two remaining teams. G is Detroit, while Mark is Boston. It's tied at 4 in the third...
Is DC Decincs? I'm surprised he stayed in the game. I would have subbed Doug-e out right away if I were Potsie.
I'm guessing that Ruppert stayed on the bench, while Joyner, Reggie, and Downing were subbed....
But I agree - DeCinces is more dangerous than Downing, I think.
What? You guys sub DeCinces or Downing? That's just nuts.

Never! In the games mentioned above, the opponent is choosing the other players subs. Since they said DeCinces homered to tie the game, I was assumming the opponent of CA must've decided to sub for Joyner, Reggie, and Downing. Ruppert Jones was probably left of the bench, because he's a huge threat.
Yea, there's no way Rupperto gets into the game. I would take Downing out as well, Decinces is much too good to leave in the game.
Yeah...Ruperto didn't enter the game. And yes, DC was DeCinces.
Potsie's reply to everyone: "What do you guys know?" And since many of us haven't seen it for awhile, NSFW ahead...

Thank god for AdBlock....
Bump... This was a quality way to play RBI, good times in Dekalb.
