Since you can now get a dreamcast dirt cheap, I'm thinking about picking one up to be able to play RBI ROMs. My question is has anyone played on the Dreamcast, I've heard on some of these systems the emulation is slow(or the controller response is slow) so gameplay isn't as good, anyone who has played NES ROMs on the Dreamcast have a review?
I tried it a while back with my PS2. Supposedly it will work if your PS2 can play PSX games. It didnt work for me, apparently I need the mod chip, or I burned the Roms bad. Nightwulf posted awhile back that it can work on Dreamcast if it is a model 2000 or earlier.
I got the original game working on Dreamcast a few years ago, but it wasn't quite right and I stopped playing after the initial 'wow' factor wore off. I think it ran slightly slow and screwed all the timing up. If you're interested in a more recent review, it would be a good excuse for me to dig all that stuff out and try it again.
Which emulator were you using? I've found NesterDC (http://www.dcemulation.com/dcemu-nesterdc.htm) to be perfect for RBI and (almost) every other game I've tried.
Your Dreamcast will need to have been manufactured no later than January 2000 (I think, it's been a while) to play burned media on it's own. Also note that the Dreamcast filesystem isn't for the faint of heart. Unless you know what you're doing with making DC software bootable, grab the Nero or Disc Juggler image (and Nero (http://www.ahead.de) or Disc Juggler (http://www.padus.com)) and burn it. Throw any ROMs on a second CD in a directory "games/".

No PSX or PS2 can play any burned software on it's own. You need a mod chip or other means of circumventing the country code (I hear some GameSharks work, etc.)

Thanks for the info, if I get one, I'll make sure it's an older model, and I won't get my hopes to high.
BTW what happened after Jan 2000? Did Dreamcast find out that people were using their system for emulation and decide to build around that?
I didn't have a single problem with timing on the dreamcast RBI, in fact I prefer it because you can enable super-speed mode. That is the greatest...
The only hitch we had with RBI and NesterDC was that for some reason a throw to second would fail a good 1/3rd of the time. It wasn't the ROM (as we used many) and was on both controllers, so I'm not sure what was up with that...
I need to get Lipitz's dreamcast from him, he never uses the thing.
BTW - Dreamcast for $20 (http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/categories/products/deptpage.asp?web_dept=dreamcast&web_sub_dept=Hardware) though they don't give the date. Most of the accessories are also dirt cheap (games for $5, controllers for $3 etc)

I doubt Sega was concerned with the emulators, or DC linux, or any other software written by the userbase. The problem was rampant piracy.
