Title: RBI in the news
Post by: Nails on 02/02/05, 09:09:33 AM
Virtual matchups stand the test of time (http://www.michigandaily.com/vnews/display.v/ART/2005/01/10/41e273f6b7b57)

Not a very interesting article overall. I don't think this guy actually played the game very much, because he seems to think Pucket was something really special.  But it's good to see the game is getting recognition over newer shit. Here's the section concerning RBI:

Clemns vs. Pucket: No, that's not a typo. "RBI Baseball" had room for just six letters per player name. But don't let the condensed titles fool you — even today, there is still no better virtual diamond matchup than RBI's Roger Clemens vs. Kirby Puckett. "The Rocket" held a formidable 2.48 ERA in the game, complementing a blazing fastball with a nasty 9-3 slider. But if there was anyone who could hang with Boston's Clemens, it was Minnesota's Puckett, who boasted a .332 batting average with 28 homers. Pairing off the two best players on RBI's two best teams, this battle was almost as enjoyable as the game's classic soundtrack that featured such hits as "Nobody on base" and "Someone on base."

this guy is a jackass.  calling puckett the best player on one of rbi's best teams is ridiculous.  neither part of that sentence is true.  he is one of the worst players on one of the worst teams.

You can never trust the media.

pucket is the leadoff hitter of the number 3 seed in the fantasy rbi playoffs.  so he is not terrible, although, clearly there are better hitters to choose for a classic matchup.  maybe this guy was a twinkies fan.

I think you're right on that one.  And perhaps more specifically, he's a Pucket fan.  Stupid Kirby-biased media.

Maybe he is just a fan of assault.

And No, TecmoTerror, I'm not referring to the Death Metal band named Assault, which I'm sure must exist.

in addition, the author reels off the stats, which mean nothing to how effective the players are.
