I was reading the FAQ and you eluded to noone really hitting homers with pitching. i was playing last night with Houston and i hit an in-the-park homerun with none other than Nolan Ryan! I think, but i am not sure, i was playing SF...just to let ya know!
RBI LIVES!!!
Thanks for the update, but we dont' really count the inside-the-parkers. Quite a few people have emailed me about pitcher homers, so I don't doubt they exist...
In fact, Lips and I were talking about it briefly. I think we are going to start throwing it down-the-middle to pitchers for a couple months, instead of all teh way outside. I think if we keep that up for a few months, a pitcher homer will come about...
Gantry, beware. That may be a few more games than you want to play.
I think I mentioned before that I play homerun derby almost exclusively, and pitchers are never pinch hit for (a fly ball past infield line is a pitcher homerun).
I've played way too many games this way, try about 3000 over a decade or more. And I've only hit one stinking real pitcher homerun, a wallzie of course. To make things worse, it was on an edited rom. Now, pitchers are the same no matter what, but I can't give that homer the respect a homer on regular RBI gets.
I wish I had the emulator recording for that one though.
Ah yes, my first post. I am ashamed to say that for all of my years as an RBI fiend, I am just now reaching out to the worldwide community of drunked brethren via then internet. My first post will be to report going yard (The Natural no less) with Bret Saberhagen v. Uncle Jesse Orosco. So, apparently, it can be done.
Welcome doveRBI!
You saying you got a homer all the way to the lights with the pitcher? Or by the natural, do you mean a standard (non inside-the-park) homer? I've never heard of a pitcher homer that wasn't a wallzie...
Gotta be through the wall. No way in hell a pitcher could do any better.
Hell, how many people have gone deep with Santana? He's the only guy I haven't homered with. Several off the wall, but they were as well hit as possible. And Santana has way more power than a pitcher.
Actually, I've gone deep with Santana twice, but he was a pinch hitter, so that's how he did it.
But a pitcher anywhere but through the wall? I'll can't believe it till I see it.
Gantry, thanks for the welcome. I must say that my RBIposse and I are entirely smitten by your website. Very proud to get into this community of fine, drunken individuals. And yes it is true. The natural ala a blast into the lights. Saberhagen v. Orosco. Only time I have seen it done. I'm not sure how it happened, perhaps a power surge that sent 1.21 gigawatts into my nes at the exact moment of contact, but needless to say I do not expect to see it again. Perhaps someone else can verify a pitcher homer?
I love the Crime Dog in the Emanski commercials, too doveRBI!
Yes ericdavis! I think that those commercials are a throwback to rbi (tom emanski/brunaski not a coincidence) because only crime dogs hat bill is as flat as those of rbi players!
Although my friend doveRBI spins a fine yarn, I must say he is mistaken. I was the victim of Saberhagen's momentous grand slam and it was indeed via the glitch. It still was the most impressive thing I have seen in my illustrious RBI career. I thank God that we have not incorporated the dee-nee drinking game rules into our playing or else I would be posting as a retiree.
What chilidog has said is true, i was incorrect as to the nature of the so called "bomb". Let me apologize to you gentlemen for my mistaken recollection and for getting the hopes of the entire free world up needlessly. Though dee-nee was not in effect at the time, I was, nonetheless, obviously drunk. I must rescind my earlier statement and now redoulble my efforts to see an out of park pitcher homerun. Please forgive my momentary slip in cRediBilIty as I will dedicate my career to going yard with Saberhagen. chiligogdavis and I will be playing dee-nee with soco/sprite at 10pm if anyone is in the Knoxville area feel free to swing by. Hopefully b.saberhagen can hit a dong before I pass out and someone puts a turkey yarlemucke on my head.
What glitch made a pitcher hit one out?
How do you know it was a glitch?
It was a wallzie, but a game winning granny wallzie, and did i mention it was v. uncle jesse oroscoe? them duke boys was goings nutz!
Game winning grand-slam pitcher homer? Goodness, I would have been breaking furniture if I gave that one up...
Welsome to the forums Dove! Great to have new blood...
After a long absence, I am back to Dee-Nee, this time from sunny South Korea. Well, I found someone I work with who claims to be the greatest RBI player of all time. So, now, IT'S ON! My wife is coming over here to see me in a week, and she is bringing the good ol' NES with her. Anyway, this guy claims to have multiple pitcher homers with Bret Copenhagen. We'll see.....
Dill, man. I want to believe you, but you say that Madlock is the best pinch hitter.
This guy sounds like he's full of shit, though.
I hope you become the Asian Champion. You should get some sort of special belt for that.
I think we need a champoin on all continents.
Wow, Dill!!! Good to see you back buddy, one of the "OG" Dee-Nee members... RBI needs some Asian representation.
So what's going on with you?
Bill Madlock is the greatest pinch hitter...on curvy pitching style, which is how I normally play. On striaght pitch, sure, there are better homer hitters around. But Madlock is a professional doubles hitter on curvy pitch. You won't believe this, but I am actually typing this while wearing my gas mask over here. The Air Force is making us pracitce war. God I hate wearing this damn thing.
Try to get a pic of you playing RBI while wearing a gas mask in Korea. That'll make the Media Page (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/media.shtml) for sure...
Best of luck out there and keep us updated. Korea has some serious Internet bandwidth, so you should be able to stay connected at least...
who pitches outside to the pitcher? they can't hit for shit....if there is anyone on base when the 8 man is up, walk him. gauranteed double play with the pitcher. they rarely hit it out of the outfield.
that guy who reported he hit the lights with a pitcher...that's bullshit. no way that ever happened. how dare you walk into this website and claim such things.

That was doveRBI - he often posts while drunk, and I believe that was the case when he made that post. He later clarified (possibly in another thread) that he may have remembered the specifics incorrectly, but he was reasonably sure that he hit the HR with Saberhagen.

Bump.
What Flood said.
Oddly enough hit a homer with none other than one of the aces of the Twins pitching staff Frank Viola...can't remember against who though as it was prolly a good 6 or 7 yrs ago. I hear Nolan Ryan's name mentioned quite frequently also.
Lefty pitcher dingers are rare, nice job...
Is this the first self proclaimed instance of a LHP home run?
I don't think so, but I can't remember who else cliamed one. I'm thinking Orosco for some reason...
I have played a lot ( and I mean A LOT ) of RBI. I have hit the wall down the left field line with a pitcher two times. So I have always assumed a wallzie is possible at least. One was with Saberhagen and the other was Blyleven. I will personally not 100% believe it possible till I see it with my own eyes though.

my sentiments exactly
I was just like you, until I hit one off the wall a week or so back with Blyleven (as close to a wallzie as I've ever seen). Now, I believe in the pitcher homerun, and I was so very adamant against the idea before this.
I started a thread about it, but I pretended to be drunk so I rambled and spelled a bunch of words wrong (and a fine job of it I did, I'm sure some people believed I was actually drunk, losers), but that thread never got the fanfare I think it deserved.
I think the drunkenness was the key to that thread, as well as every other pitcher home run tale. I'll also never believe it 'til I see it.
I actually wasn't that drunk when it was hit, and I have three witnesses, of course, it wasn't a pitcher home run, but it also changed my feelings towards it. Goddamn though, we had taped all the games we played from a week ago but were just too lazy to hook the coax back up and tape that night's games.
I don't believe in pitcher home runs.
That reminds me of the funniest thing I saw whil watching an A's game this year. When the whitesox were in oakland several fans were dressed as dinosaurs with signs that said, "We don't believe in Carl Everett."
Good stuff.
The dee-nee house will get their pitcher home run and I have a feeling Lipitz will be the first...

The dee-nee house will get their pitcher home run lemon party and I have a feeling Lipitz will be the first receiver...
my 2 cents worth...i have hit a fly ball with a pitcher to roughly an inch or so(human inches, not rbi inches) of the foul pole, and thats the closest i have ever come to seeing a pitcher homer. never seen a pitcher walzie either.
i did get excited once with BOS cause i forgot who was up and Henderson batting 8th, and lifted one and it kept carrying slowly, slowly and just cleared the wall.....i was about to pause and then run in here to post, then realized it was hendu and not da pitcher. dah fkn nah.
