Rock stole 71 bags in 88 games in 1981. Too bad they didnt play a full season ... Timmy could have broken the all time stolen bases record.
I think Rock is a first ballot hall of famer. Discuss
Are you refering to the all-time drug use hall of fame with fellow first ballotters D. Gooden and D. Strawberry?
This should be in the RBI forums, I had no idea Raines stole 71 in '81, impressive. He played 88, how many games were played in the regular season that year (in other words did he play all the games), I remember the season being split, in fact I think that is the last time the Expos made the post season
They played like 104 games in '81. I think Raines should get in. Not quite a 1st ballot HOFer, but in.
To me he is not HOF material. Although, I am under the belief that you should only get 1 or 2 ballots.
He was a very good leadoff man and definitely had a lot of fuel in his tank.
However, 1571 runs, 2605 hits just does not do it for me when you are talking about HOF'ers. He also had a career batting average under .300 and only had 4 seasons over .300 in which he had enough at bats to be eligible to be ranked. He also had 808 stolen bases which is really only 56 more than vince coleman when raines played in 1360 more games than vince. Although, power numbers probable are not as big of a deal when it comes to lead-off men, for Raines they certainly don't help him. Only 170 career homers. He only had 2 seasons with more than a dozen bombs.
Again, very good athlete, but he wouldn't get my vote. He would get my vote for the rbi hof. I think he is one of the top 10 players on the game.
