Title: Super Homerun Glitch
Post by: Beanball on 05/11/03, 11:42:53 AM
A few years ago I posted on some old RBI message board about a glitch I saw, which I still have not found another witness of.
I was playing with AL and McGwire was batting against a pitcher I can't recall the name of.  Straight pitch, McGwire killed it to left center.  It was going to be a typical moon shot that would not come down, but it was going significantly faster.  The screen panned to the upperleft as it would with any long shot, but instead of stopping and having fireworks follow, it just stopped there for a few moments, and slowly panned backwards, in the direction of home plate.  It kept going, into foul territory behind the plate (as foul backs do) and stopped again.  Then it panned back to the upperleft as the shadow reappeared.  The freaking ball landed a bit past third base.

I swear this isn't bullshit.  I don't know how I could forget the pitcher, and also whether or not the game ruled it a homer (think it was just a fair ball).  But it did happen.  A round the world homerun.

Please tell me someone else has seen this happen, because I'd feel better if it could be verified.

Wow...  That certainly happened to us, sounds almost like a dirty game glitch.  Given this was a few years ago, I assume you weren't using an editor?

Nope, it was on the licensed cartridge.  It was a two player game, which is why the ball wasn't caught, but I almost wonder if the cpu would field the ball after that glitch (they'd all be stuck in left field anyway).

The thing I hate about glitches like these is that they are so hard to prove.  Makes those pics you have of the Super Glitch even better.

What I'd like to know is what kind of penalty would ensue for the fielding team's player should this happen in a drinking game.  Or maybe, I wouldn't want to know.

i friggin killed one (vs the computer) with maris with the PH Bonus to right center once.  The screen panned up as far as possible.  i could barely see the tops of the light towers(which was a 1st for me at that location), and then the ball came down for a second clear at the top of the screen, then descended again just a moment later.

almost like a 2nd home run was following right on its heels.  a moon shot the likes that i have never seen before.

i believe bee-jay or ultimate once said that they hit a ball so high the slide whistle sound changed into a buzzing tone before it came back down.

Ive noticed that since nate and i have gotten much better pitching we see less and less of those moon shots.  its a good thing, but i miss seeing those mamoth homers.

Yes, twice with Kingman on the Arcade machine with PH bonus I popped it straight up, and it went to make the next higher pitch and the machine couldn't handle the sound and it started buzzing instead.

I have experienced this.  Also, with Babe Ruth on the arcade, I hit a homer similar to what TBT was describing but it didn't come back around.  He hit it so far, all you could see was sky

We hit a PH bomb with Adcock that went WAY high and left, but I don't exactly remember what happened.  Definitely the deepest homer we ever witnessed and the game did something funky for a sec...
