Title: Dee-Nee Games (STL) 3/16/05
Post by: Sperling on 03/16/05, 09:04:29 PM
Games at the lovely Sherton Saint Louis.  We thought the gray coaxial adapter was faulty because the game wasn't showing up on Channel 3.  Lips started scrolling through the channels and got to Channel 17 and there was RBI.

We decided to play random teams.  First game, Sperling and Gantry.

SF (Sperling) - 18 (technically 20, 3 run HR by Youngblood in the 8th)
STL (Gantry) - 8

12 HRs (Sperling) versus 8 HRs (Gantry)

I subbed Youngblood (Big Stud) after 2 futile Aldrete at-bats in the 8th spot.  He responded with 3 at-bats of HRs (2-run, 3-run, and 3-run to end the game).

Dee-Nee!

Lips and VitB6 up now.  Random teams, but Lips got Det and VitB6 got Bos.  Scoreless so far.

Dah-Nah...

A very bad game for me.  I only had 1 run through 4 innings with Detroit.  I brought it to within 3 runs with 2 out in the bottom of the 8th, but then Jason hit a huge 3-run dong with Baylor.  The lead at that point was too much to overcome.

Dt (Lips) 11, 8 homers
Bo (Jason) 16, 9 homers

Was a pretty good game, until Joel Youngblood "Big Stud" took things over.  A poor fielding play by yours truly led to 3 runs, and I couldn't keep up.  Couldn't hit the Pettis (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/glossary.shtml#PETTIS) to save my life with Coleman or Smith.  Lineman, Morris and Pendelton were all solid...

All in all Sperling outplayed me, and with Stl you can't afford to make any mistakes...

I made myself sick.

Championship Game, less than champion effort.  It started off bad from the start when I lost track of strikes and tried to foul off a pitch with Burks.  Instead I grounded out to first.  The offense followed suit the rest of the game and I layed a fucking egg.

Sperling (BOS) - 6, 5HRs
VitB6 (SF) - 7, 5HRs

HR by Chili in the Bottom of the 9th to seal it.

Both of us couldn't hit, but I blame myself for hitting so many fucking groundballs and into so many double plays.  This sucks.

Gantry and VitB6 in the next round of games.  Game 1 is "pick your opposition's line-up".  Twins (VitB6) versus Mets (Gantry).  Gantry hit a 2-HR with Mookie Wilson, but it's still early.

Game update....

Lombardozzi bunted to advance the runners to 2nd and 3rd to bring up Bertus.  Bertus hits a double down the line to score two.  Gantry is definitely upset.  VitB6 can't stop laughing and ends up striking out with Gladden.

Final of round 1 of the "sub your opponents" battle:

Gantry (NY) - 11, 4 HRs
Vit (Mn) - 7, 4 HRs

It was a tight game until I got two 3-run innings in the 6th and 7th innings.  Gene "Dee-Nee" Larkin was the only play for Vit/Jason who was consistently performing.  An ass opposite field hit and cheap double by Roger McDowell sealed the deal for me.

Shit, I even got a home run from Mookie Wilson...

Sperling and Lipitz are up now, with Sperling (Mn) facing Lips with the AL.  Uphill battle for Sperling to say the least.  Sub your opponents batters is a most enjoyable way to play...

Lips wins a terrible game:

Lips (AL) 6, 5 HRs
Sperling (Mn) 4, 3 HRs

All in all a brutal game on both sides.  Lips and I for the championship...

Gantry wins big in the sub championship....

After Gantry wins the last title, we decide to go slurve with random teams.  Unfortunately, the dice dont go the champions way...

Jason (Am) - 14, 10 HRs
Gantry (Ho) - 7, 3 HRs

I fought valiantly, but I couldn't handle the American League bats...  Vit played a mean game, good pitching and hitting.  I couldnt keep up...

Though for the record, Reynolds Wrap had all 5 of my RBIs through about the 5th inning....

Lipitz sucks...

Sperling (Na) - 10, 4 HRs
Lipitz (Mn) - 1, HRs

Jesus...  Apparently, slurve is at fault...

Apparantly, no one put the last game on the site...

Slurve championship:  VitB6 (SF) v.s. Stehling (Det).

This was going to be an uphill battle for SF as Detroit isn't a good matchup for them, but Spilman showed that we weren't scared by hitting a leadoff homer.  Krukow kept Detroit off balance all game getting 5 K's including back to back strikeouts of Gibson and Evans.  Exact score is a distant memory however Krukow ended up going 5 strong and Reuschel was able to go 3 until he handed it over to Grelts to finish.  The combination of stamina and movement was able to keep Stehling off balance all night and the game was never close.  Again, final score is up in the air but my guesstimate is 13-6.

Big Money, Big prizes...I love it!
