Title: Nicknames continued
Post by: ericdavisfan on 05/27/03, 09:01:10 AM
I tried to post on the original thread, but my school's "protective software" wouldn't let me.  Must have been a suggestive nickname on there  ;)

Anyway, my brother and I had a few from back in the day.  Mostly, they come from the Tigers/Angels because that's who we mostly played with.

Chet Lemon - "Chester the Molester"
Bill Madlock - "Mud Duck"
Kirk Gibson - started as "Captain Kirk" and evolved to "Cap'n Crunch"
Lou Whitaker - "Buh-whee"  aka Buckwheat
Larry Herndon - "Look I'm going to the bench"
Bobby Grich -  "the Grinch"
Bob Boone - "Boob"
Dick Schofield - didn't really have a nickname, but we'd always put a major emphasis on Dick...really impressed our Mom!
George Hendrick - "Soul-Glo" (Coming to America ref)
Don Sutton - "Pubes"
Jeffrey Leonard -  "Don't call me Jeff, please"
Joel Youngblood - "Youngblood, Wasn't that a hockey movie?"
Rafael Santana - "Pitcher hitting in the 8 spot"
John Kruk - "Put me in Coach!"

Speaking of nicknames, has anyone ever noticed that every syllable of Tony Armas's name is a body part? Toe-Knee-Arm-Ass.

R. Jones- "Not Unusual"- after the bad Tom Jones song

Jose Cruz- originally "Maverick" after Tom but it has since been     changed to "Penelope"

Doran- "Doran Doran" like the group

Gladden- "G Funk"

Roy Smalley- "Stuart" after the SNL character

Davidson- "Harley"

Mookie Wilson- "Blaylock" after the bball player Mookie Blaylock

Some quality names there, I like Doran Doran and Harley Davidson the best.  Since the latter doesn't have a nickname for us, that'll be his official Dee-Nee name...

We have a ton of nicknames but every time there's a thread on it, I can never seem to thing of any.  Here's a few that came to mind.

Kirby Puckett - Al Groper

Bob Boone - Boones Farm

Don Baylor - Elgin

Chet Lemon - Bacardi Lemon

Bill Schroeder - Scrotumeater

Fernando Valenzuela - The Hefty Lefty

Those are some good ones, but we call Fernando Valenzuela- "The Cheese" because everything he throws is "soft" and basically "served up on a  platter"

I just have to say that Kimmy Gibler is by far my favorite Dee-Nee nickname.  That fuckin' cracks me up.
