In the Rom's thread I suggested that we come up with a fun rom that contained teams that we would want to use when playing the RBI drinking game. Teams that could make this rom could be the all-mustache team, all-tobacco team, all-criminal team, ect. Also, this rom should definitly contain the All Dee-Nee team. Forum members should write into this forum to pick a position they want to play. I cut and pasted lips repsonse for an example. Lips writes :
"sucka free, I played baseball as a kid and I frickin' sucked. I rode the pines for half of every game (except when teammates were on vacation and I was allowed to play a full game - WOO HOO!!!!). I would always get subbed in for the second worst player on our team, halfway through a game. And what position would I play? Right field. Why? Because 90% of the players were righties and no one would hit into right field. Dah-Nah!!!! I moved on and split time at shortstop for awhile. Then came the pinnacle of my baseball career...my team was down by so many runs, I was thrown onto the mound to pitch a few. Now, that was solid. So throw me in on the ALL DEE-NEE TEAM's bench. And either sub me in for a right fielder or play me as a shortstop. "
Since this is Gantry's site, he is obvisously the final word on the starting lineup. I'll keep a running tab on this thread on the progress. As for me, I played catcher almost my entire baseball career that lasted through junior college. I was more of a rob deer/ pete incavilia type hitter. Great long ball but short on average. I also like to drink alot, which is why, if selected to the starting lineup as a catcher, I should bat towards the bottom of the line up.

Can I play 2b? I'm left-handed, but that's been the position I've played.
SUCKA- that is a fantastic idea! I never saw your other thread. I've been playing organized baseball since I was 4. I never like to brag (ok maybe a little) but I was a pretty good player and batted 3rd every year. I had a .300+ avg great speed and decent power and a defensive prowess in CF. I'd compare myself to Tori Hunter or perhaps Andrew Jones. They are good hitters, great defensive players, fast with moderate power. So put me in at CF. Where I am in the lineup is up to the coach.
BTW- I played with Lips in little league. I played against him and was never on his team. I didn't know you actually pitched Lipitz. That's funny.
If this team ever gets created it would be the funniest thing ever!
QuoteI can't believe this hasn't been mentioned yet but what about an ALL DEE-NEE TEAM? I think this would be sweet. Everyone could write in and describe what part of the team they want to be on. For example, if you were a shortstop in highschool, ask to start at short. Or if you pitched in little league as to be a pitcher. Or if you have a huge fucking ego like me or the "T.O. of the forums" Vitb6, ask to play center and bat 4th.
I started laughing my ass off when I read this. I wrote my previous message BEFORE I found the thread you were referring to. And for the sheer fact that I actually wrote down I played CF and batted 3rd and you wrote kinda the same thing (without even knowing and without me reading you statement beforehand) was hilarious to me. Although I'm not kidding about my other post and I probably could have written it with more of an ego-esque kick to it.
Dude I would suck on an all Dee-Nee team. I'm right handed and have no power. Perhaps I should be on the bench too for the cheap power boost....
I'm Joel Youngblood at best, Steve Lake at worst. Actually, I'm better than lake...
Though he hasn't been visiting as often, Greg Pines definitely needs to be on the team. He's a top5 poster and actually plays in the Minor Leagues (though I can't remember what team). Hopefully he's lefty, but he's definitely our cleanup hitter. Not sure what position he plays though...
If I'm included on the team, you should know I play pretty much like GDavis from the original RBI, except without the power.
Is this him? If so, you can thank Google. :)
http://www.battlecreekyankees.com/asp/roster.asp?pid=33 (http://www.battlecreekyankees.com/asp/roster.asp?pid=33)
That would be him, we'll put him at cleanup and 1B...
team is starting to shape up. We have two 1b so Gantry needs to decide who starts, Pines or Davis. We need to recruit some middle infielders and pitchers. Lips, is currently our ace on the staff because he is the only one with pitching experience.
I was never very good at baseball. *grumble* I sooo wanted to be a good second baseman tho. :'(
Nightwulf
NIghtwolf, is definitly the starting second baseman. Currently, the only person to mention SS was lips, so our double play combo is lips and nightwolf. Holy shit!
We're in for worlds of trouble if I'm our ace.
Our team name will quickly change to the ALL DAH NAH TEAM!!!!
You are all we got lips...just try to get the ball over the plate and let the defense work
Actually, best thing to do about me it just wait for last to put in me, and just throw me into whatever position's left. That's what they usually did with me on my high school teams... ;D
Hey Guys, I know I haven't been posting in a while, but I have been keeping tabs and would love to be on the dee-nee team. I played a little - little league ball and played some serious whiffle ball in my day also. I don't do anything well, but have a little speed. Take it easy and Go Brewers!
I have not posted in awhile, I stumbled across this post and I just wanted to let you know I bat right handed and I am a catcher.
Welcome back Greg, good to have you! Your sig says you have no belts, but didn't you just win the overall belt? Though I saw taht on your webpage...

Any OF slot is ok with me. I played mostly OF in little league shifting around from LF/CF/RF.
I played 3B, 2B and outfield in my day. I've bulked up quite a bit since high school. I used to be a singles hitter. Now I'm ready for the meat of the order.
Put me in, coach!...
Ugggg! Gpines is a catcher!? Damn, looks like that bumps me out of the starting spot considering he plays pro ball. Oh well, luckily for me I'm not like Piazza and I can play another position. I've got good hands, a cannon for an arm, and big balls so that quailfies me to play third. I can also play outfield. Gantry, I'll put me at the hotcorner for now.
Gdavis, Gantry, nightwolf, Jason, and Lips, do you guys bat R or L. No switchhitting allowed since this is RBI
I'm a righty
Righty, as is Lips. We're going to need a lefty off the Bench though, so start practicing Lips...
Right-handed here also.
Nightwulf
What colors should the Dee-Nee team use?
Left-handed. Just throw me on the bench.
The team is starting to shape up. Being that in RBI you can only play one poisiton, Lips needs to give some type of commitment to whether he wants to pitch or play shortstop. As for the colors of the team, my vote would be for an all white colored jersey. We could be called the Dee-Nee Pimps
Did I not make the cut?
My Bad....I didn't see your post. I have Nightwolf at 2nd, and if 3rd is your position, I'll bump myself into the outfield, and if lips decides to pitch I'll move to short. Ar eyou L or R?
I'm a righty. Maybe with the hitting abilities comparable to Tom Brookens. I'll K three times on bad pitches, but maybe hit a homerun with my 4th ab.
I'm a righty
I'd like to take the RF position, if that's still available...as that's what I played mostly. Also, I see the leadoff spot is still open. If there was one thing I was back in the day, I was fast.
Otherwise, put me on the bench as a pinch hitter. I'd rather not pitch, although we do need some pitchers.
And whoever makes this ROM (if someone does), please do us all one huge favor. Make two ALL DEE-NEE Teams. Why? So when we play this game with two players...we could both select the Dee-Nee team. That would be solid.
No lefty's? I know Gantry won't play with this team.
In the immortal words of Lou Brown, coach of the pennant winning indians, "The team is starting to come around". I must admit the outfield of vit, lips, and myself is fearsome. I need a shorstop and a starting pitcher. Gantry, you have to fill one of these spots.
Sucka free, I've updated my above post so many times. Sorry, can you read it again?

"You might run like Mays, but you hit like shit."
vgp....solid knowledge, and solid quote. Shit I just realized that I never sent you that 6er of anchor steam. DAH-NAH. My bad. I think i still hav ethat address you sent me. If I ever get off my fat ass I'll send it. My bad.
Lips...re-read that post and I put you in at right field, thus perfecting a solid outfield. You me and vit will be out shagging flies. I'll throw you in as lead off. You are right on about creating two teams for a two player game. It would be better if we had enough people to make a DEE-NEE and a DAN-NAH team.
Question...if you were using yourself in the DEE-NEE rom, and you struck out with the bases loaded, would you curse at yourself?
Senerio: Lips playing Vitb6 in RBI. Vitb6 is up to bat and Vitb6 is batting. Lips strikes out Vitb6 witht he bases loaded. Vitb6 yells, "Fucking Vit, godamn can't hit a lick. That's twice he has struck out with the bags juiced."
Well Sucka if I play Lips and that happens I will for sure yell that and then bean Lips when he comes up to bat!
And my secondary and tertiary postitions were pitcher and SS to be honest. I want my primary position to be a hitter because pitchers suck in RBI however, I give you permission to clone me and put me in the rotation. The more, *me's*, the better I say.
No cloning allowed. On player per position, unless of course we can't fill the slots. I take it you want out of ceterfield and put at SS? If so, so much for that all-star outfield.
No I'll play Centerfield, although if you need a SS, you can move me. Cloning is a great idea.
if an ss is needed doveRBI will be key in that position. i should probably hit either 2, 6, or 7.
doveRBI will provide spark with the bat and wily baserunning as he taunts the opposing players.
I guess I didn't make the cut. If I did, just put me on the bench; just bring me up to the plate for a cheap Lefty hit. (From what I can see, I'm the only lefty. :( )
dove and craig, I put you cats on the bench for now. I have a strict policy in not starting rookies until they prove themselfs in the forums. Keep posting and you may post your way into the starting lineup
Craig, you should register a name so you get credit for your posts, instead of logging on as a guest.
I just recruited a starting pitcher. MarquisEXB is our ace!
Finally, a starting pitcher. That's cool.
Sucka free, can you throw me in the leadoff spot? Thanks...
I just noticed the ALL DEE-NEE team post. Here is my spill.......do with me what you wish.
As a little leaguer, I never got a hit, got out only once and stole about 1000 bases. The first year I played, the kids pitched. I swung the bat about 4 times, struck out once, and walked every other time I was up to bat. After getting beamed, over and over and over and over and over.........and over, I decided little league was not for me.
However, I loved the game. The neighborhood kids began to play on the weekends. I was actually good when I could get pitches to hit. After a few months of contributing to the broken window fund, we decided a solution was needed. Alas, wiffle ball. Yep, that's right, WIFFLE BALL!!!!
Best part was you could throw out a running by hitting him with the ball. Excellent!! (I know, ironic to little league experience). Anyway, we had great times in the summer.....we created teams, kept up with stats every year, and played a world series. Ahhhh, the memories.
Well here were my approximate average/year stats
As a hitter
Dingers.........60+
RBIs..............160+
Avg...............0.465
As a pitcher
Ws................??? usually 1st, sometimes 2nd at season end
Ks.................??? see above
ERA...............1.10 we divided IP into ER w/o multiplying by 9 (to keep the ERAS in perspective)
I know it was wiffle ball, but I found out, it was just as hard, if not sometimes more difficult, to hit a wiffle ball (especially far) than a baseball. Well that's my story!!! Hope I can make the team.
Oh, I forgot to mention that switch-hit, and well I might add. Same power on both sides of the plate. As a pitcher, can only throw righty, but I do have a mean sidearm when needed.
I just read that Jeter became the yankee captain today, and I realized that we couldn't possibly have an all dee-nee team without gantry in the starting lineup. Ironically, the SS position was open, so I thought it was more than fitting to give gantry the captain's spot. We now have a complete lineup.
As for craig3410, doverbi, and the murph I regulated you guys to the bench based on forum participation. I figured this is the fairest way to decide who gets to start plus it just makes sense.
We still need one more bech guy and 3 pitchers. I also still don't have everyone's batting stance, righty or lefty
I looked at the top 15 posters on this forum and we are still missing some big names. Can anyone get a hold of ericdavis, bban, or jcbball?
Can Potsie or Sperling pitch? Maybe we can use those two guys, and the remaining people on the "friends list" on the dee-nee.com site and start the ALL DAH NAH team.
Did everyone play wiffleball come from the city? I'm a New Yorker, so playing baseball was tough (although we'd find a few parks here or there where people would play). Strikebox was tough, since you had to find a park with a wall & a long field (usually a school).
We'd played wiffle ball in the backyards. It was great because the broken window factor was null. The only thing that sucked where I lived was hitting it over the garage, on the other side of the block, which meant a walk around the block. One yard had a big mean dog, so those balls were just lost (the owner should have sold them on ebay - we lost millions in that one.)
The best part of wiffle ball was if there was nobody around, you could still practice pitching, since it was essential to the game. With a wiffle ball throwing curves was easy, so you just had to work on: which way to curve, how fast, and where to throw it.
My favorite pitch is the screwball (thrown submarine) or my riser (thrown sidearm), although I throw the overhand curve as a primary pitch.
Anyone else?
Mike
Thanks for putting me on the team. I've been on here as a guest till I've remembered I had an old name I forgot about. :) Thanks for putting me on the bench.
I played wiffleball; I actually DID break a window. :o I'm good at wiffleball.
Potsie...baseball...HAHAHA. He can be the drunk bat boy. Stehling never posts, but he was actually decent at baseball. He played on my little league team for about 3-4 years. He never pitched though. I don't recall what positiion he played, but if I had to guess I would say LF, although for some reason I think he may have played third too. Nick (again) never posts, played a little, little league. He is big and fat (j/k) so he would be a good catcher. He can whizz a ball though so maybe he could be our closer. Jae, played baseball for a couple years. What I remember he wasn't very good and I know he played RF, because I went to like 2 or 3 of his games. Eddy- HA. Maybe Gantry can tell us if Zorba played baseball, I'm not really sure. Actually, I think I do remember seeing a picture at Gantry's old house of Zorba in his striped baseball pants. Once Gantry reads this he'll fill us in on Zorba's baseball days. That's all the info I have on the baseball habits of the "friends list".
I thought of a good idea for another team to play against. We should have an all mascot team! We could have the Philly Fanatic (c- with a good stroke) and the Milwaukee Brewer Sausage guy (leadoff speed with no power) etc... Since mascots are inheritantly funny, it would be hilarious pitching against them and watching the Fantatic crush a homer...
The bench will suit me fine, however, you will quickly find that i'm that guy - ala heep(o'shit) who brings the homer blast off the bench every time. I will be quit beneficial in that role. Just wanted to weigh in on the wiffle ball issue. Much props to all you hard core wiffle ball players but I'd like to help take your game further. The truest way to play peg wiffleball (the only way to play in my opinion, where you try to peg someone for an out) is to wrap bat and balls in about 18 layers of duct tape. this not only provides power and control but also generates insane whelps on he unlucky enough to actually get out. also, i am known as the rob deer of duct tape wiffle ball because when i step to the plate, i can bat lefty or righty, and the out come is always either a home run or a strike out. Duct-tape forever, dee-nee bench somebody bring the seeds and chaw!
doverRBI out!
Thanks for the opportunity to shine on the bench!!
doveRBI, we actually had a few plastic balls that didn't have any holes or slots in them, but they were hard. The 'solids' as we called them, would leave a whelp the size of a grapefruit. When you were pitched a 'solid' it was best to hit a homer, a pop up, or watch it go by. Any ground ball, then the best thing to do was stay at home and hope he goes to 1st with it. I also found that if you cut the ends of the wiffle ball bats off, you get a little more carry with the wiffle ball. I had a George Brett, black, with tape on the handle, bat and couldn't do anything with it. Then I cut the end off after it got a crack in it, then Wham! Over the wall, I used that bat until the handle broke off.
A quick question though....how long did you use your wiffle balls after they received their first crack? We would use them until a piece of the ball actually broke off. If one little piece was holding the 2 sides together, and it looked more like a frisbee than a wiffleball, we used it. Your goal as the batter was to eliminate the ball ASAP.
I am training for my bench sitting as we speak. I allow myself a 10 min break so I can get up and walk around a bit, then its back to the bench. In addition to the seeds and chaw, we definitely need the BIG LEAGUE CHEW (I preferred the grape)!!
To throw a wiffle ball properly you have to scuff it. If you throw with a new wiffle ball, the curve is opposite to what it should be. I've read things on the internet about putting the wiffleball in the microwave to get the same effect, but have never tried it. Unfortunately scuffing the ball decreases it's life. For us, a wiffle ball was dead when you broke one of the slots.
At one point we experimented with bats. The best would be to cut a hole in the handle. Then you would take a newspaper & fold it up a page at a time. Wet the newspaper & stuff it in. Use something to jam it all the way. Then put the bat under water & stuff some more. That made for one heavy bat. If you opened the bat at the tip instead of the handle, eventually the newspaper would come flying out, no matter how much tape you used. Seeing the pitcher get pelted with newspaper on a swing is damn funny.
Mike
hey, i think thats a cool idea and i see you want to get a hold of me, i havent been on the forums for a while but i will be now, so if you want to put me on the team, make me either 3rd base (im guessing thats taken up so bench is fine) or righty pitcher (reliever)
i used to play baseball and i had a great average but not much power
if every spot is taken up, its not a big deal
More on duct tape - yes i am feeling the solids and that is a phenom that manifests in duct tape ball as well. obviously not all our balls come from the same source some harder, some thinner, some more, less, or no holes. even though all are duct taped you know when you get to the solid if you are pitching, but the good thing is the batter doesn't and you can absolutely blow it by him. as for the splitting, some balls are two piece and will almost always spilt in one clean blow rendering them useless, but if they begin to cave you have to keep playing them until they are totally destoryed.
doveRBI
Hey guys! After an extended RBI-less stage of my life I am back and better then ever. All this ROM talk is really exciting. Let me know if there are any open spots on the Dee-Nee rosters...
Armas
I see Armas as either a big bat off the bench, or as a starting pitcher, like Tony Armas Jr.
I hear Armas was in the Mexican leagu getting ready for the Dee Nee league. We're gald he's back.
Three more spots to fill for the Dee Nee team!!! Hoepfully we can fill enough spots for a DAH NAH team. What does everyone think of Gantry's idea of having all the forum guys on the Dah Nah squad?
Yeah, like a bizarro Dee Nee squad.
If you want to make the rom most quickly, I would suggest just you take the stats from a player of the original rom for each person. That way you have all the ratings/stats already done. Afterwards you can draft as many teams as you need so the rom will seem different.
Actually I was thinking of a program that would put all the players in a pool, then let you draft teams & spit out a rom.
Mike
I like that idea - everyone gets to pick their RBI player. Some ideas:
I'm Harry Spilman, though I'm not lefty. Spilman stats in a righty? I just want some power. I should be Steve Lake, but refuse to...
Jason was a very good baseball player, could hit and was fast. He's Gibson, but righty...
Potsie is Burleson...
Lipitz will have to answer for himself...
I think that drafting the teams is a brilliant idea. The only thing we have to do is recruit enough people to fill two teams. We are getting very close. I think we have filled one and a half teams so far. We should be able to finish the second team soon.
i think you guys are on track, so the original dee nees on dee nee and the forum flunkies on dah nah, that puts me in the right boat. i definately think for the 1st iteration we should choose a player from original rom to rep us on the dee nee nah rom.
This whole effort is the most damn shineenee thing i've ever f'ing seem! Keep it up.
doveRBI
I'm gonna switch my player from a lefty to a righty, as well. Give me Pat Sheridan. He won't be overly fast as a lead-off hitter, but oh well.
Thanks for the props, Gantry. I was always the fastest guy on the team so I need more speed than what Gibson brings to the table. I don't want to be thrown out from RF. I'm no Vince Coleman but maybe the speed of Danny Gladden or Gary Pettis.
Anybody think of just having two teams? That way guys on the bench can be on a different team.
I probably would have enjoyed playing a different position, but being bigger then most of the kids, I played a lot of 1st base. I could hit the ball a ton if I got a hold of it, but going for the long ball is bad for your average. Maybe ill give softball a chance.
One time I did play left field on an american legion team, and the sun was so bright, the coach bought these dollar store sunglasses, and I had to stand out there like an ass, trying to find the ball with sunglasses that didnt work.
I also did a very small amount of pitching. In 9th grade, I got a chance in a scrimmage, but the coaches were afraid I would kill somebody, so they didnt let me pitch the entire season, and let my brother pitch. Then in the last game, they gave me 2 innings. I stuck out 5 of the 6 batters, all but one on 3 straight pitches.
My friend told me after the game a guy in the stands was talking about me and said "When he's good, he's really good, but when he's bad, he's really bad. There's no in between with this kid. Needless to say I had control problems. And when you combine that with a above average fastball, and playing baseball at that age, coaches dont want to take chances.
Oh well, Id like to be 1st on the second team if that would be cool, maybe we should have all-dee-nee East/West or North/South.
