Title: Gimme some help here.....
Post by: TbT on 04/14/05, 07:59:37 PM
4 man tourney curve pitch, and you cannott use a starter in back to back games during the same series.  i got picks #1 and #8, so pick #1 is critical.

id like to take boston with the first pick overall cause of all the righties in the lineup batting(i kinda struggle batting with lefties) but i know outside of clemmens thier staff is shaky.

r they the best option for me, and then hope to clobber the opposition when thier pitchers tire, or do i look for more balance?  id feel most comfortable batting with the boston line-up though.

just exactly how much can i get outta the bosox pitchers other than clemmens in curve pitch.  since i'll get either hou or st louis as my other team this pick is mega crucial.

and yes money is involved...just 30 bucks going to the winner, but what the hell that buys a weeks worth of groceries for me.  40 if a guy can get both teams in the finals.

I say go with Boston (assuming All Star teams aren't allowed).  Then take your lumps with Houston, 'cause if you're 8th and there's 8 teams--you're getting Houston.

Hurst is a decent curve pitcher--depending on your style.  If you're the cheater kind who likes to nibble on the plate, he's decent.  If you're the "bust 'em in and often" type, he's no good.

I even think Stanley is a decent P for an inning or two (tops)...

How will you guys be setting the bracket up?

That would suck for you to play yourself right off the bat ;)

You can't go wrong with Boston --- great mix of pitching and hitting.

no, we each will have a team in both sides of the bracket, making for the possibility of a guy having both his squads in the finals.  once teams are drafted then they will "randomly" set up the match-ups, so i got no clue who Boston will be playing right off the bat.....or who Houston will get either, since thats likely my 2nd squad.  Ryan and Scott sounds good to me...what the hell, lets do it!

I agree.  You cannot go wrong with Boston (especially if you like righties!).  They have more power (as a team) than any other team on the game (inlcuding allstars).
Clemens is lights out too.  You may have some difficulty with Hurst, as I never do well with him, but your offense should make up the difference.
Since you like righties best, the only lefty I would leave in the lineup is boggs (burks, armas, boggs, rice, baylor, evans, gedman, henderson)...just my preference.

All I can say is Ugh, #1 and #8 sucks, you will get stuck with Houston and you will have to pitch lights out.  You are playing a 7 game series?  I don't know what I'd do, but man I wish I was playing in a tourney like this.  I might actually take SF with the 1st pick.  Both starters are good, and you have a strong lineup with good mix of Lefties and Righties, but I'm not certain

ultimate, its prolly a best of 3 for the quarters and the semi's and then the finals is usually a best of 5 from what i remember the other times we have done this.

if i can get a good match-up with houston then maybe i got a chance to at least get a couple wins from Ryan and win a series, since were not top notch world beating quality players or anything like that.

I'd take Boston.  Start Schiraldi.  Get two innings out of him.  Then, bring in Clemens or Hurst.  They will get you 6 good innings, then use Stanley to close it out.  Bonus, the temptation to bring in Schiraldi in the late innings is eliminated, and he never hurts me too bad when I start him (but I play against poor competition)
