I'm wonderig what your pitcher hitting strategy is? Usually I like to use my pitcher at the plate to tire the other pitcher. No one wants to waste stamina throwing to the other pitcher, so usually you just lob it down the middle. I usually let two go by before swinging. However I decided to hit as many foul balls as possible. I think I hit about 12 fouls in one AB, which forced him to throw a sinker.
Of course with a runner on, I will sometimes bunt, if the game is close.
Anyone else?
Mike
We actually have a bunch of pitcher strategies, though their actual effectiveness is questionable. I personally hit the ball with the very tip of my bat while moving to the left (assuming a righty pitcher-hitter). It does get me a few hits that roll right down the third base line. Lipitz uses a simlar technique, but mixes it up a little more with the brute force bloop single...
Potsie kinda blows with the pitcher, but he has a unique technique that works on occasion. He retreats real deep and pops it up over the pitcher's head, towards short. The key with that hit is to use your SS, if you use your pitcher you often can't get to it...
I use the Tettleton with my pitchers. I've noticed they hit more groudn balls with this style. It at least gives it a chance of going through the hole.
I've also tried the swinging bunt. Often, it screws up. But, if done properly, no can defense.
we have a rule where all real world interference penalties are off during pitcher at bats. for instance if your buddy didn't notice that you pitcher was up and thereby adequately steel himself you could reach over and punch him in the jimmy as he threw a pitch, or you could kick his beer into his face just before the ball crosses the plate leaving j. orosco a leisurely bunt hit everytime.
What Gantry said about using the tip of the bat while moving to the left (righty only) is a great way to pitcher hit. Mainly because the first instinct is to get the grounder with the P, but if you use the pitcher it will be a hit every time. You need to use the 3B and move him right away otherwise the pitcher will beat out the throw to first.
