Title: California Angels weekend thread
Post by: ericdavisfan on 04/28/05, 04:02:58 PM
I am throwing out a dee-nee challenge for the upcoming weekend.  Hook up your NES, throw in RBI, and play a few games with CA.  Come back here to discuss your lineups, successes, quirks, heroes, and goats of the action

California will be playing most of the games in the qualifier today.  Sperling and Lipitz will probably use them everytime against Detroit, not sure what Jason plans to do.  He's more of a Boston guy typically but we'll see...

Lipitz is a firm believer of Rupperto in the leadoff spot...

Spelring has been practicing with Pettis playing all game, but has now seen the errors of his ways.  I don't expect Pettis to get any ABs for him today, all Wilfong...

Pitching is all over the place.  Lips likes to start Witt, Sperling tyipcally starts out with a reliever, while I am a big fan of the Smutton out of the gate.  I guess it really doesn't matter too much in straight pitch, because none of the guys (save Donnie Moore for an inning) have any speed whatsoever....

Lips and Potsie use Burleson in the 8 spot.
Sperling and I use Hendrick.

The Angels, a team of many RBI Dimensions...

one thing that i have noticed about CAL is the fact the Boone can be a yard goin mofo on a good day.  more so than any other 8 hitter.  and then he'll give ya the standard 1-4 or 0-4 with just a single on the other games.

im also a firm believer that moore will blow some saves/leads.

I played a "season" with Cali.  Got to the last game, and my wife flipped off the lights.  Unfortunately, I had plugged the NES into the socket that is controlled by said light switch.  Whoops.  I got mad for about two seconds, then decided to go to bed.

Surprises:  Accidently left Grich in to hit, because I wasn't paying attention.  He homered!  I decided to leave him in for a gratuitous at bat, then decide when to sub.  This made me change my Ruppert strategy, because I'm not leaving him on the bench.  Put Ruppert in for Pettis, and noted a significant decline in success.

In the game against Minnesota, I hit a homer with everyone but the pitcher.  Brian Downing had a good game, going yard twice!  He was pretty solid.

Not impressed with Bob Boone.  I am more likely to sub him out for Hendrick than ever before.  He just didn't hit at all.  I had some trouble with Joyner too.  He's usually on, but he didn't hit for much power this time around.

I think that Dougy D homered in just about every game for me.

Donnie Moore and Doug Corbett only saw action in the one homer crazy game.  I was specifically trying to hit a homer in the 9 spot (homer from all 9 spots in the order).  I had Burleson and Hendrick that were able to take a crack at it, but neither got the job done.

I played a couple games using Ca against the computer this weekend.  I was unimpressed - I wasn't hitting homers, and the team doesn't have much speed, especially if you bench Pettis (I left him in until he started 0-3 for me one game).  Even Potatoes wasn't hitting the ball all that well - the only dinger I hit with him was a line shot that barely cleared the outfield wall.
