2005 Dee-Nee RBI Qualifier
Today is the day of our 2005 Dee-Nee RBI Qualifier. Three brave men will be competing for two spots in the 2005 Dee-Nee RBI Baseball Tournament on 5/7/2005. We hope to start playing around 6pm, as Vit has to work until five.
Since I don't have to play, I will be updating scores throughout the tourney. I will also stay in Dee-Nee chat throughout the evening. Expect drunken commentary throughout, by both those playing and spectating.
The video camera will also be out, and I'm vowing to have some videos/pics up within a week. Hopefully Lips will qualify and help me out, otherwise it may be tough...
The Competitors:
- Lips, aka Jamie (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/lipitz.shtml)
- Sperling, aka Mark (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/sperling.shtml)
- Vitb6, aka Jason (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/jason.shtml)
Because Potsie (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/potsie.shtml) and myself (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/gantry.shtml) made the finals last year, we automatically qualify for the Final Four and get to watch the others sweat it out.
The Format:
With only three people playing, we are going to use a round-robin format with 3 games per series. The official RBI Drinking Game (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/drink.shtml) rules are strictly enforced, making booze a huge factor. Initial matchups/positions will be chosen out of a hat between 5pm and 6pm.
Schedule (9 games):Game 1 of each series: 1v2 (#1), then 2v3 (#2), then 1v3 (#3)
Game 2 of each series: 1v2 (#4), then 2v3 (#5), then 1v3 (#6)
Game 3 of each series: 1v2 (#7), then 2v3 (#8), then 1v3 (#9)
Game 3 team/controller determination:1. Head-to-Head record. If someone is (2-0) in the head-to-head
series, he gets choice. Otherwise, goto #2.
2. Total runs in the series.
3. Total homers in the series.
Qualifiers:Top 2 records go to the Dee-Nee RBI Tourney (aka "the semis").
If there is a 2-way tie for second at (2-4):The player who won the series between the two, will get choice of
team/controller in a 1-game playoff to determine the final qualifier.
If there is a 3-way tie for second at (3-3):Game 4 of each series will be played. The choice of team/controller
will alternate from the choice of Game 3. If all teams tie again at
(4-4), then the qualifier will be completely replayed at a future
date. Otherwise, the top two records will qualify.
Feel free to leave any questions or comments you have. This thread will be sticky and constantly updated as soon as we are close to starting the festivities. Dee-Nee!!!
Update - Sperling and Lipitz are here and the 6pm starting time is a go. Lips brought his camera...
Correction - The RBI Tournament will be on 5/21 not 5/7, my bad
I wish you'd have mentioned this earlier. Is the event sold out? How much is admission? Are there scalpers outside of the event?
Stehling just pulled off a doozy, breaking the all-time run record in a warmup game against Potsie. Stehling (Dt) wins 34-23 over Potsie (Dt). He's ready...
5:30 and the troops are restless, all are waiting for Vit to come from work. Things should be underway before 6pm....
Vit has arrived, Lipitz is bouncing around like a schmuck and I am enjoy some cold, delicious Ribbons. Not qualifying is cool...
Reggie Jackson just showed up on a commerical for a baseball instructional. This means something...

MARK STEHLING QUALIFIES!!!![/B
I'M IN!!!!!!!!!!!
First of all I would like to thank God. He has been my savior through all of this and without him/her this would not be possible. I would also like to thank my parents for supporting me throughout all my limited training. My brothers for being there to pick me up when I was down. Laura for giving my back rubs when I had sore muscles after training. I would also like to thank Rawlings and Easton for their caring donations of products and support. And to all those that I don't have the time to thank I say a heartfelt..THANK YOU!
With that out of the way, it is finally over. After 8 grueling games with a lot of ups (18 HR's in 5 innings) and downs (Stehling hitting a foul ball grand salami) I have prevailed. I came in to the tourney a 15-1 underdog. With limited practice (5 straight pitch games in the last 6 months), working 7 hours immediately prior to the tourney, not being the beer drinker in the least and all the while during Passover in which I can't eat anything with flour I have overcome the odds and surpassed all expectations. Personally I knew I could do it. Beating 2 RBI veterans to gain entry into the all encompassing RBI Championship Tournament is a milestone that I will charish for the rest of my life. Only an RBI Championship can top the level of satisfaction that I now feel.
I will, again, be a superunderdog in the finals to no matter who I play. But one thing is for certain...I will come to play and it is never over until it is over.
I wish good luck to both Lips and Stehling who are playing one final game for the last remaining open spot in the finals.
Until the finals I bid a grand farewell.

POW, who's 2nd account is this? Funny
The quality of recaps really dropped in those playoff games, all of a sudden the games where over and someone won, no final scores the bolding was working. I think the alcohol was beginning to set in.

What kind of question is that? It is quite obvious that it is Hashem's account.

Yeah Gantry was getting pretty tired towards the end, especially that last game. But after Stehling beat Lips in that final game, we all got a second wind as we were all dancing around aimlessly all the while we were making fun of Lips for not qualifying. Funny stuff. Got some good camera action as well. Since it is Lips' camcorder we'll have to wait and see how much of it makes the final cut. Personally I think that we should 'Mission Impossible'
it(the camcorder) from his house one night while he is sleeping. But in order to do that we would have to drug Bailey (his dog) as she is most out of control.
I'm sure Gantry and the rest of the bunch will have more to say when they wake up this am. I'm not too happy that I was up at 930 this morning as Laura woke me up when she had to go to work. Getting home at 330 and waking up at 930, on your 1 day off, blows!
I'M IN THE TOURNEY!!! DEE-NEE!!!
Dah-Nah. That is all, for now.
I was quite tired, and I just woke up... Dee-Nee to Jason and Sperling, it was a heck of a tourney....
QuoteThe quality of recaps really dropped in those playoff games, all of a sudden the games where over and someone won, no final scores the bolding was working. I think the alcohol was beginning to set in.
Yeah, I was definitely over my beer quota and just wanted to go to sleep at the end of the night. Keeping all those stats was getting VERY old by the end, definitely not my bag of wax. I drink two bottles of water before I passed out and thanks to that I am hangover free this am. Can't believe I slept until 2:30, haven't done that in quite some time...
It was a great tourney, that's for sure. I was rooting against Vit (I always like the original 4 in the finals) but he simply outplayed everyone all night. Kudos to him, but we'll be bringing out our "A" game for the finals. He certainly won't be the "superunderdog" as he claims, he's already proven to be a tougher opponent than Sperling and played more games last night than Potsie has probably played all year. He's a solid #2 seed right now behind me for the finals. Gonna be a rip-roaring time, and I don't have to do camera/stats/postings, Dee-Nee!
As for Lipitz, I am truly disappointed in his performance. From champ to eliminated in the semis to not qualifying in two years, was the 03 tourney a fluke? He just played like ass all night, could never get his Lipitz big innings. Even when he got his yearly "stars fall into alignment" scenario to force a tiebreaker he laid down and got spanked. Truly a letdown from this once formidable opponent - I feel worst for Skutter, she has to marry this guy in a month. I can't begin to imagine what she is feeling at this point...
All-in-all a great time and stay tuned for the finals this year. Not much of a dee-nee turnout, I expect more people to turn in for the finals - kudos to JerryD, nightwulf and Baines for coming into chat...
Shit, can't believe I missed the tourney. :'(
Gantry will take the cheese for sure.
