Title: Straight Pitch League Week 7 Results
Post by: Nails on 05/01/05, 06:09:00 PM
Nails vs. Noah G. - Week 7 results

Game 1 - Nails 3, Noah 2 (10 innings)
A tough game all around with sparkling defense by Noah G, but Nails pulls off a 3-2 victory with a solo shot by Kirk Gibson in the bottom of the 10th.

Homeruns:
Nails:  Kirk Gibson (2), Tim Teufel
Noah: Bell, Downing

Game 2 - Nails 7, Noah 1
Nails' bats finally woke up, blasting six homeruns for the win.  Gooden was at his best, pitching 8 strong innings and giving up the only run of the game: a solo homerun by Wally Joyner in the first.  Noah's defense was of gold glove caliber, turning more double-plays than I've ever seen.

Homeruns:
Nails:  Will Clark (2), Ripken (2), Gibson, Henderson
PB: Wally Joyner

Game 3 - Noah 5, Nails 4
Nails took a 4-3 lead into the ninth inning, but the bullpen could not hold the lead.  Jorge Bell hit the first pitch of the inning a mile, tying the game at 4 each.  One out later, and a runner on third, Noah hit a ground ball to the pitcher (was it a bunt? I can't even remember now...).  Thinking there were two outs, Nails threw to first for the out, and the winning run crossed the plate with ease.  A fatal mistake, but Noah earned it with great hitting and excellent defense throughout the game.

Homeruns:
Nails:  Kirk Gibson
PB: Bell (2), Gaetti, Bush

Another thing I forgot to mention:

In the middle of game 1, Noah hit a double, and I erroneously threw the ball from centerfield to 1st base.  The ball went past the 1st basemen into foul territory, and Noah stayed at second while my pitcher retrieved the ball.  If it weren't for his good sportsmanship, he would have scored and won game 1.

Sounds like a great series.  Nails, you were a couple runs away from possibly playing spoiler on Noah's playoff hopes.
Noah has now locked up his spot in the playoffs.  The seeding is not set yet.  Hell, I could even get the #1 seed yet (not likely as I would have to sweep JoeDirt for that to happen).
Week 7 may prove to be crucial.

Damn, I was hoping for one more loss there.  Clutch victory Noah...

The best times for me are usually around 730 - 930pm CST.  I am on 3 softball leagues right now, so my time is somewhat limited.

I will log on near those times sometime this week, and look for you to be logged on.  I will PM you if I see you are logged on.  I am looking forward to being swept!!

Swept?  This match up is for top billing--I doubt you'll get swept.

I'm pretty hit and miss this week--tonight isn't likely for certain.

That's cool.  It is about 845pm right now.  I will chill here till around 9pm.  If you don't sign, in no biggie.
Actually, this last series does not mean much for me unless I can sweep you.  Since I think Noah has the #4 seed no matter what, I think I will be playing Lips in the first round of the playoffs if I win 0, 1, or 2 of the 3 games.  If I can get the sweep, then I will have the #1 seed and play Noah in the first round.

I have softball tomorrow night, so if not tonite, let's shoot for Thursday.

Maybe I can catch you tomorrow night.  I am not going out tomorrow since I play in a softball tourney all day Saturday, starting @ 8am)

Oh, also...doesn't Gantry have the chance to tie me for the 4 spot in the playoffs?  He has the opportunity to win 4 games, still.  Am I wrong?

He can tie your record, but you swept him in your series, so you would win the "head-to-head" tie-breaker.

All hope is lost for Str8 league completion.

I guess so.  Joe and I have not been able to get a game in for a month now.  We were both able to play last weekend, but the servers were down.
It is not just OUR fault though.  4 other players need to finish up week 7 too.

I did not anticipate the season lasting as long as it did.  It is now into my softball season where I play 3-4 nights a week.  It is really hard to set time aside for online RBI.

Hopefully we can still finish in time.

The closer we get to the tourney, the less likely I am to play a straight series.  :(

So if we're still holding out hope, let's get to it...

So just play a gay series. What's the big deal?

Gay, to JoeDirt, is not a series.  It is not a way of life.  It is THE way of life.

Still trying to finish it up.  All the info (schedule, results, stats) are in the Consolidated Details thread (http://forums.dee-nee.com/index.php?topic=5413.0).  There's about 4 individual series to be played, and also playoffs.  Not sure if we'll ever get our asses in gear.  Some of the guys might be interested in another season afterwards, but i'm probably not signing up for anything for a while.
