Title: 4th post in an hour
Post by: jaylums on 06/17/03, 12:53:21 AM
Sometimes I look at the screen during play and I like to see all the intricacies and odd things which make ribbie so good.

Like how the umpires are stick-thin.

Like how far away the batting circles are from home plate.

How every game is played in perpetual twilight.

How the stands in the stadium resembles the Big O in Montreal before it started to cave in.  The stands also look just as empty.

Trying to guess how many spots in the bleachers I must have hit homers into.  There can't be a spot left.  I mean there just can't.

How numbers can't go into double-digits on the scoreboard.

How the bottom of the batter's box is far wider than the top.

How the catcher is always hunched over the plate like George 'The Animal' Steele.

Or how runners cry their way back to the dugout when they're out, only to vanish into thin air.

How about the fact that the batting circles aren't big enough to fit a player inside.

The thing that has always tripped me up is this... how is it that the runners have such shame when they are put out that they can muster the athleticism to retreat at about 4 thousand miles an hour.  couldn't they run the bases at that same pace?

Do you notice that a foul ball directly behind the catcher never lands?  A very high foul will go straight up and over the viewpoint from which you are looking.  Never see it come down.

my favorite is when you hit a ball foul off the wall in right or left, and it kicks back and bounces off the heads of the fans out there...do they even watch the game? catch the damn ball!

someone is gonna get hurt

Batters slouch and make like they're about to cry when they're hit by a pitch.  100 mph or 25, it makes no difference.  Players gotta sac up, man . . .

I guess aesthetically-speaking, the ball field looks so damn picturesque to me, very technicolor.  That's gotta be the one of the biggest reasons I kept on playing for so many years.  That and the fact growing up this bud and I thought we were the only two guys in the world that got off on the game so much, which made the game that much more fun to play against each other.  This forum is a freakin' godsend to me

jaylums - a word of advice.  i checked with tengen tech support on this and they advised me that it is potentially damaging to your RBI cartridge to "get off on this game so much."  Just thought you might want to watch out for that in order to get the maximum life out of your game cart.

Bud, I never knew it was even possible to love a game that much 'till you pointed that out . . . that said, I'll choose my words more carefully next time.

I'm still trying to figure out how a game with such old graphics still retains its lustre.  RBI is amazing in that regard.

Indeed it's lustre is high.  I will display the irony of rbi's sexual appeal.  I did sneak out of bed last night after my wife was asleep and play about 4 games.  It's pull is strong indeed.

That bad, huh?  I know, I'm playing against the computer (the COMPUTER) till 3-4 in the morning every night.   I wasn't even conscious at work today.  This is a good thing, though.
