Title: Hands Up!
Post by: PHole717 on 05/17/05, 09:49:57 AM
Is it just me, or is it really annoying that the computer can put their hands up to catch a ball, but we can't?

i can only put up one hand. . . . . the other hand is usually busy rubbing one out.

I have to admit that I've tried a few button combos to try to find the magic sequence of getting locked into place while fielding...

It would be cool to be able to put your hands up.  I like when the CPU players waves his hands up and down like a maniac because possibly he is just on the border of "the spot"

In Baseball Simulator 1.000, your players will actually put their hands up for the catch when they're in the proper position.  Sometimes they'll put them up and then put them down if the ball is tailing and they're no longer in the right place.

I don't like your tone...

Baseball Simulator 1.000 was very RBI esque.  The teams were customizable and the stadiums were all very unique.  This game got lots of play time in my youth.  If nothing else, it allowed us to create teams that weren't included in RBI --- notably the Cubs (me) and A's (my best friend).

Like Ryno said, Baseball Simulator is the most RBI-like American baseball game (with the possible exceptions of RBI 2 and 3).  If it makes you feel better about RBI, I think Baseball Simulator stole a bunch of ideas from the last Family Stadium game (season mode, selectable stadiums, the batter wiggling his bat, diving/jumping).

i wish that the baseball simulator 1.000 games still worked in season mode.  i've bought at least five copies of it over the past few years, and they all freeze when you try to sim a computer game.  the roms do the same thing.  it sucks.

Whoa, that is weird...  There is a decent Baseball Sim community online, I remember a guy awhile posted on here about it.  You should find out where they gather and ask them, there's gotta be a fix...

thanks for the pointer, gantry.  i've been playing a season on baseball stars as of late, but baseball simulator 1.000 was my favorite growing up...i must admit that i liked it even more than RBI

Thread hijacking happens a lot, sometimes intentional, sometimes not.  Many threads go off-topic on the 2nd post.

The inability to throw the fielders hands up bothered when I first started playing, but I got over it by beating the snot out of the CPU in bitter retribution.

I've tried with zero success for many years to get my fielders to throw their arms up.  Just never happens.

Despite their names, RBI 2 & 3 are not like RBI Baseball.  They suck and RBI does not.

if you want your fielders to keep thier hands up on defense, replace their deodorant with icy-hot in the clubhouse.  that'll learn em.

(not an original idea of mine, i saw it in a martin lawrence movie trailer)

My cartridge worked fine when I played a season last summer.  Is it possible that you're just impatient?  The games take a really long time (several minutes) to simulate.

are you sure?  I remember them simming very quickly when i was a kid.  i left it sit for a couple minutes once, i remember, and it didn't even sim a half inning.

mine stops at the screen with the chick who is supposed to be doing sports highlights or something - it just keeps playing the music and doing nothing.

It's probably the one glitch that wasn't accounted for in the scramble to prepare for Y2K.  All Baseball Simulator 1.000 cartridges stopped working at the same time that Prince's 1999 became irrelevant

Given the title, everything wrapped from 1.999 to 1.000 - try setting your clock in Windows back to 1998 and play a season (simley)

That's the sim screen.  Give it 5 or 10 minutes and see what happens (you may want to have something else to do while you wait).  It could be not working, or it could be just usual slowness.  It also appears to take more time depending on the length of the inning, so if the visiting team is scoring a huge amount of runs, the top of the first will take longer.

i sped the frame rate on my emulator up to 850, and the game simmed in about ten seconds.  DAMN that is slow.  Why does this take forever and Tecmo Super Bowl can sim in like three seconds on a normal frame rate?

Tecmo was made 3-4 years later, and they designed the simulation well

from GameFAQS:

Tecmo Super Bowl 12/13/1991

Baseball Simulator 1.000 10/27/89

ok, so two years difference.  I'm still not satisfied.  Here's why:

Baseball Stars 5/13/89

that game simulates in like two seconds.  I'm pissed at Culture Brain!
