Just wondering...what is the longest anyone has ever played RBI for non-stop? (Not including restroom, food, or smoke breaks).
Myself and OctoFranco have gone about 6+ hours (easy, probably more) before, but I doubt that is the record...
We just talked about this last night, there was a thread way back (that I found after someone bumped) where someone was going to try to play 100 games in a day (details are murky)
Get out of here! 100 games in one day? Well, it could be done. You know what would have been cool? It would have been cool if RBI featured a bullpen car when you brought in the next little fat guy. But...any way you cut it, I love RBI just the way it is.
This superood guy has got to be a joke right?
I'm assuming it's one of the regulars just here to fuck around with us??
Man I hate people who criticize RBI and think of ways it 'could have been better"
Discuss.
It's no joke dude. I'm the real deal. Not a regular...YET. I did not say "it could have been better." I stated "it would have been cool." Duh.
My brother and I could play all day if each game was 2-1 or a 1 run game, but when i blow him out, he gets pissy and leaves.
It was Strassy and I who wanted to play the 100 games in 24 hours. We figured it could be done if we played non-stop with Ho and StL, and we had people supplying us with food all day. It has been almost 5 years since the idea, and it has yet to come to fruition. Maybe one day. One glorious day...
I think 50 would be a nice starting goal, even that is going to be tremendously difficult...
I honestly don't think 100 games is possible, but maybe curve times are shorter than I think. You gotta average under 15 minutes a game, every game, for 24 hours. Include bathroom breaks, resetting the NES and choosing teams and you have quite the task...
If that little Jap guy can eat a gazillion hot dogs in 10 minutes, I can play 100 games of RBI in one day.
If i remember correctly.... We used to play games lightning fast. I can remember seeing the clock at the top of the score board saying 11 to 13 minutes. At a 12 minute pace there would be 120 games played. That is not counting reseting and bathroom and snack breaks. Technically that allows for 240 minutes of non-RBI time. Factoring in all breaks, rain-outs, resetting, fixing the nintendo, and at least one substitution of nintendos ( there will be at least one that melts or explodes ), I believe that this can be accomplished. It would take 2 very strong willed men, 2 die hard RBI fans, and 2 well trained players. I hope this record is approached many times this summer.
PS Anyone ever thought of having 2 tvs and nintendos set up for this?? Have some set up men to have the next game ready to start? This would completely remove all resetting time? Just a thought. Im heading over to play some RBI right now. I cant wait, first time in probably 2 months. Ill see if my buddy is up for some RBI marathon someday.
I've actually been considering this for a while now (well, a few hours)...I think OctoFranco and I are big enough losers, that the next day we both have off and zero obligations, we may try this. Obviously not the 100 games part, as we're both too competetive, and I smoke far too much and have to urinate as frequently as a 7 year old, and after doing the math, it seems damn near impossible.
However, 50 games doesn't seem quite as tough, maybe not in a race style (as it would be over 12 hours, easy, even if it goes non-stop), but definitely 50 over the course of one day. I can't quite think of a way to prove it, although I could easily set up a second TV in my basement and take pictures of our box scores right next to maybe CNN or Headline News or something (some channel that has the time/date in the corner of the screen) to verify that we were being honest.
I'm gonna have to give this some more thought, but this sounds doable, and if me and Octo can figure out a date that's good for both of us (and, sadly, this will be the toughest part I fear), I think we may very well try it
Also, 50 days in one day will definitely be sweet, because I'm sure we'll experience it all, triple plays, a no hitter (??), many wallzies, a bunch of statues of liberties, I've never turned the Tony Armas play (and Octo is Boston a TON of the time), 4 home run games in ATG, it'll be quite the experience, I just sent Octo a text message, if he's awake he'll call, and we'll figure this out and I'll have a follow up post shortly.
