Title: question about power
Post by: vgp100 on 07/01/03, 01:30:29 PM
It is my understanding that a pinch hitter's power is something like 20 points higher during his first at-bat. When we see their power numbers posted anywhere, which number is used? The first a-b or every other a-b.

And when you make a rom, does it automatically adjust their power numbers for the bench guys, or can you change that? Could you make the starter have that effect?

If I screwed up with the link, the initial power boost is 64 points.  As far as I know, every bench batter will get this boost for their first at bat, and then they will have their standard power for each following at bat.  The power numbers posted for all batters are their standard ratings, so just add 64 to get their pinch hitting power.  The only way to give this ability to starters is to put them on the bench.  So when making a rom, you just consider that some guys on the bench will temporarily be badasses.

The one thing I don't know is whether the power boost is 64 points for any time of insertion.  For example, whether a pinch hitter gets 64 being put in in the top of the 1st and bottom of the 9th, or if the number is different for different times in the game.  I'm guessing it's a fixed number for everything, if it's RBI it's probably the simple answer.

I know the "64" boost to be true. I hit a homer every other time with Tyler Houston off the bench for the Phillies (RBI 2k3).
