So I'm messing around with the original rom (well, two player pause) tonight...Messing around using save states and such.
One thing I've realized, is that even if you throw an exact pitch time after time (save state, then pitch, not a save state during the pitch), that how the computer hits it depends greatly on how long you wait before throwing the pitch, if you throw it instantly, a righty will always be late on it, but if you wait a few seconds, they will always pull it.
Is this a worthwhile contribution? I found it interesting enough.
Off to do some more research.
The random number seeds rotate any time a random number is used, and sixty times a second whether one is used or not. The "randomness" in RBI comes from the fact that you're very unlikely to do things from one game to the next with precision down to a sixtieth of a second.

Do the number seeds you speak of only work for the computer or do they play a role when two people are playing?
They're constantly running any time the game is turned on, used frequently for both CPU- and human-controlled calculations.
