RBI FOR LIFE!
Dear RBI patriots,
As we approach the midsummer classic, it seems that some midsummer blues have set in for the dee-nee! crew. We all seem so busy running crazily about working on roms and drafts and topics and fights. There seems to be a lull in the true entusiasm for the great RBI that brings us all together. I just want to urge you all to pause in this season and to realize that the reason that we have drafts, and roms, and jean-lockhart-bitchslapping-contests is because 20 years ago some japanese genius had the creativity and sheer balls to create the Tengen league. So come this friday I'll be saluting the red white and blue and saying "God bless America and Tengen too!" I hope you all remember where your hearts are and return to your true love. If not I hope you choke on a chalupa and visions of Sweet Lou Whitaker are the last thing you see.
Amen...
Read it again and hum the RBI song in to yourself. It's like hearing a speech with God Bless America in the background.
My goal was a cross between Bill Pulman's rousing battle cry in "Independence Day" and a Lee Greenwood American Flag sweater embossed with the RBI logo. To my fellow patriots I salute you.
Why are you wearing pants?
I think the true power and meaning of RBI, for me at least, can be brought out in an argument I had last night....its an arguement ive had many many times...with many times, but still burns like 3 eternally flaming suns whenever RBI is referred to as "just a stupid game"...
a nice kid, who happened to be innebriated at the time, was talking to me and my girlfriend at a party...and he asked me what i did, or what i liked to do, and as always i brought up that i love to play guitar and play nintendo....and he said that i was "one of those gamers"...and i responded that no, i was not a gamer, however i do like to play particular games...blah blah blah....and he asked which ones...so on and so on...so i said "its not like i belong to an online league or forum that talks primarily about the intracacies (sp) of an 8 bit baseball game"...and he looked at me and said "you waste your time with stupid games like that?"...and then it just irked me...
pretty much, my gay and geekily sentimental point is this....RBI has given me, and a great deal of my friends, a douse of fun and fantasy and release that we really did need....from being a kid up to right now, i can still play online or turn on a game with T and we can play, and laugh, and really have a great time with the game....going to work all day or facing the bullshit that everyone does, we all need that release...some people drink or do drugs...some people go party...some people masturbate to dangerous levels...some people beat their spouses...i, for one, play nintendo...so, what im saying, nothing against those who enjoy the habits above, people who look at the game and the people that play it as just a stupid game are missing the point...it is a stupid, simple repetative game...but to me, at least, it never gets old...
so keep on truckin RBI'ers....and as i try to wipe my tears with my tom brookens rookie card....i salute all of you....let freedom ring....
BBan, you should've kicked that guy in the balls, dumped your beer on him and say Checkmate! RBI Rules, bitch.
CHECKMATE? Ahhhhaaaahaaaahaaahaaaa!
unfortunately, and to show you the kind of party that it was, the only non alcoholic drink they had there was pepsi one....which had an ad campaign that lasted about as long as cuba gooding jr's fame....3 weeks...
