QuoteThe New York Mets signed catcher Benito Santiago to a Minor League contract on Thursday. The 40-year-old veteran will work out in Port St. Lucie, Fla., before reporting to Norfolk of the International League.
Hallelujah.
my primary responsibility at the TV station where i work is to cover norfolk tides baseball on a nightly basis. so i will get to see him play quite a lot.
Keep us updated, hdunlo
Ought we still count him as one of the 4 active players if he is in AAA? Not sure what the proper label would be for him.
i like how that article refers to ken oberkfell as a "star"....are we stretching the usage of the term "star" a bit there??

I'm guessing that the Mets will let go of backup catcher Ramon Castro and bring up Benito in a few weeks.
Very good news... Considering how few RBI'ers we have left, I'm going to stretch the rules a bit and make him an active player...
IIRC, Benito refused to be reassigned to AAA for the Pirates. So I wonder why he's doing AAA now, unless it's what Nails said...
