Title: Being DET vs BOS
Post by: TbT on 07/14/05, 01:49:57 PM
i stink when this match-up comes about.  what's the rotation you guys use.  Ive had some decent results starting Hernandez, then going to the starters....usually Morris.  Still find i get shellacked no matter what.

I like that strategy, especially against good teams.  The starters have more movement in the late innings that way.  Problem is, if you try to get too much out of Guillermo, then you give up runs or bring in a starter in a jam.

if Hernandez sucks a dong that game, at least its early and you can try to stop the bleeding.  Also if he goes deep into the game, 3 or so innings.....then things are looking up.  I like the thought of having a starter hanging around ready for use incase extra innings come about.

Been big on the Ojeda and Orosco combo latley with NY, then bring in Doc around 6th-7th.  Too bad i discovered this after the tourney cause when i got up 1-0 on Mclane in the series, i went with NY to close it out with thier pitching, but Doc got hammered that game.

I struggled immensely in the tourney with this very matchup.  I'd go with Detroit and my opponent would take Boston.  I'm pretty sure that's what me and Tecmo did in our first game.

Anyway, I had huge problems getting outs vs Boston with the Detroit staff.  Too many mediocre righthanders.

i had to choose last in my series with GDavis, and Lips in game 1....Bos beat me/Det both times (clobbered actually)

When you and I played i musta had 1st pick, and took Bos in game 1.  I just think its a crummy match-up.  Clemmens' hard slider to the lefties is probably the difference maker there, cause i cant get the Det bats to keep up with Bos.

*Edit*  with cotut selection process, maybe i shoulda took a different team and saved Det from game 2.  But i dont know how good NY would fare vs Bos in a real important game.  It most likely means Det faces Cal righties all game long in game 2, which aint any better.

I think any time you're given the choice, you gotta take Bo over Dt.  Not that Bo is that much better than Dt, but the pitching match up for Dt is pretty bad vs Bo.  If you're gonna face Bo, you gotta do it with a lot of lefties.

I've been thinking a lot about this since I had this thread opened and wrote two emails unrelated.

I think that in curve if your opponent picks Boston you shouldn't automatically go with Det, as I, and I'm sure many others do. Granted their offense can go pound for pound (or at least, awfully close) with Bos, but their pitcher's have such a tough time closing them out. From here on out I'm gonna go with San Fran or possibly Cali against Boston and see how I can do. Too bad I have to fucking wait till August 8th to play OctoFranco who's a fucking Boston specialist (I seriously believe that nobody is better with Boston than he is)

I'd say the same about Strassy and Houston.  Nobody uses Houston better, but that is simply because nobody else in their right mind would ever use Houston ever, for any reason.

I probably use Houston more than any other team as of late since I have not played any real competition while living in Cleveland or Austin.  When I do play someone, I always take Houston just to give them a chance.
Personally I like Bo and Cal better than Det.  Although Dt has kick ass power, their pitching is terrible and I have never been put out 9-3 as much with any other team.

Houston is the bomb.  I haven't played anyone decent besides Nacho while using them, but I have played Nacho using Houston at least three billion times.  We are probably about 50/50...which is pretty good, I think, since he's always StL (still the 2nd worst team, but light years ahead of Houston)

Basic just I love starting with hernandez and using the two relievers up. cause by the end of the game, seeing no curve from those two crackers Doyles stuff is looking pretty nasty by the end of the game. And well it works against TBT cause well, he's inferior to NATE NATE NATE!!! Plus the last thing you want in the 9th inning is have to face TBT's leadoff hitter ARMAS with a reliever who just got dead-arm.
