Title: Quincy MA, House Games 7/30/05
Post by: malnuboy on 07/30/05, 10:57:45 PM
Played a few series with some friends tonight, I think we found out the best style to play(anything goes). We pick teams out of a hat(all stars excluded) and then we play best of five game series with our picked teams. We flip a coin for homefield advantage and then follow the 2-2-1 format, reseting the game when the home team changes. I really like this way because you will only use 1 starting pitcher a game for the first four games, unless your facing elemination in game 3. Then if it goes to a game 5 you will be able to use your entire staff.

This is really fun because its not limited to 1 starting pitcher a game but you would be fool to use both.

I won the first series 3-0 with St Louis against NY. The first game was stupid, my friend basically gave up after allowing 4 early runs with Gooden. He left Gooden in the whole game and I won 11-4. The second game was a instant classic! I was down 2-1 in the bottom of the ninth and got an infield hit with Coleman, who promptly stole second. Ozzie then sacrificed Coleman to third. Herr came up and hit a week grounder to second scoring Coleman to tie the game. With two outs in the ninth Jack Clark took a McDowell cockshot deep to center field for the walk off homerun. Game three was just as classic. We took a 2-2 tie into the 12th where my friend intentionally walked Ozzie to load the bases with two outs and immediatly served one up for Herr who went yard with the walk off grand slam. At this point we had not started the home/away changes. Vince Coleman named MVP for his excellence on the basepath.

I'm pissed because Herr does not get the grand slam recogniition because once the winning run scores the game ends, Dah-Nah.

The next series was crazy to much to go into great detail but I took the 3-2 series win with Houston over the Giants. Game 5 went 11 innings where Jose Cruz took Grelts deep to win the game and series. Mike Scott was named series MVP recording wins in both games 4 and 5. My friend Josh played me in this series and he never plays RBI, so I was very impressed.

Great recap Malnu, but I have some constructive criticism for your buddy:

1)  NEVER pitch to Jack Clark if he is a swing away from winning the game.
2)  Never intentionally walk Ozzie Smith

The second one is in lower-case because some may disagree with me.  But I think most would pitch around Jack Clark with the bases empty, bottom of the 9th, two outs and a tie game...

I agree on the Clark thing, as far as the Smith thing goes I think my buddy was trying to set up the force at second

Yeah, it is definitely debatable...  I say you pitch to Smith because I consider him an "easy out" - also you should be able to find an out for most ground balls  with two runners on.  Then again, Tommy Herr is no studhorse either...

some good nicknames came out of this night. Bob Brenly is now known as the "Unsilent Majority" for no particular reason.

And that Leonard dude for San Fran is now "You look like shit today" Leonard, this is a line pulled from Full Metal Jacket. It replaces my former nickname of "Vashon" Leonard.
