Title: Hey, Gantry
Post by: Big Hath on 08/02/05, 07:02:41 PM
Do you come up with the "News" at the top of the page that now says "Anything Goes over 100,000 posts" or is it some kind of auto-generated text?

It's not generated at all, just specified by the forum administrator.

Hey, Gantry!!!

I thought it was where we can ask if we're friends?

Yes or no?

Those questions go on the "Gantry, Please Read!!!" thread because it is much more urgent and pressing.  This thread is for a more leisurely, "Hey, how ya doin'?  I hope your day is going swell.  XOXOXO.  Have a great summer and don't change!  Stay in touch!"

Trying to trip me up

And I'd never make it through without you around

Hey Gantry
Don't make it bad
Take a sad song and make it better
Remember to let her into your heart
Then you can start to make it better

Hey, Gantry -

I haven't seen anything like this on there, but that doesn't mean it isn't there...

Is there a ranking order on the db of RBIers by each stat?  (ie who has the most hits in their career, etc. etc.)

I only ask because, out of sheer curiosity I looked up who was leads all time in getting hit by pitches, and lo and behold RBIer Don Baylor was 3rd all time...

Since I've yet to discover a site where I can determine career matchups between RBIers, I figured I'd undertake this instead, if it hasn't been done.

There is no comprehensive listing, but the db could deifnitely use it.  Please do...

At work today I got all the way to Marc Sullivan.  Tomorrow I should probably finish the list and start the posts.  However, I'm not really sure how to make a NEW topic on there.

MOS - The two best ways to make a new article:

1) Create a Wikilink in a previous article, [[New Article]]
2) Search for the new article.  Remember that it is case sensitive.  If no exact hits come up, there will be an option to create a new artcile...

I think you are talking about two different things: posting in the forums and creating a wiki page for the db.

MOS - Gantry wants you to create a wiki page with all that stat rankings and stuff.  You better do it or he'll get really mad.

WTF, Biggio just past him, but  I thought he had been the leader?  What's the deal?  He is 2nd all time, correct?

I think some guys from way back when has the record, but it isn't in 'the modern era,' so they often say that Biggio has the record, even though he is number 2.  I could be wrong about this, and if so, someone correct me.

I considered this, but then was fairly certain they didn't even keep track of HBP for a long time, just counted them as walks.  I'll try to look it up.

According to Baseball Reference's list of all-time HBP leaders:

Prior to 2005 season:
1. Hughie Jennings - 287
2. Tommy Tucker - 272
3. Don Baylor - 267
4. Craig Biggio - 256
5. Ron Hunt - 243

Right, that's where I got my info.  If Biggio passed him, well, that sucks for Baylor, I suppose.  But stats aren't official til the end of the year, right?

Are you joking?  Of course they are official before the end of the year, it's not like the can just void the entire season.  They didn't wait until October to celebrate Aaron's 715th homer.

Well, I thought that technically things like errors could be changed long after the game is over.  Really, though, I'm too lazy to add the stats of active players, and would rather wait until baseball-reference does it for me so I can recalculate.

All stats can be refigured due to things like adding mistakes after the fact, but the reality is they don't happen much anymore.  Pretty much the only judgement call is hits-errors, and that becomes official once the game is done.
