Title: The Greatest Series of All Time
Post by: B on 06/06/02, 07:51:42 PM
First off, I know these make troublesome categories sometimes, cause it may not be a topic for debate, but i welcome anyone to interject their greatest series in here....im not sure how you guys play it...be me and t go 7 games...switching home and away and such...much like the bigs...so here goes....Cali (t) vs Detroit (Bban)

Game One-- a pitching duel between Witt and Alexander....bob boone strikes an RBI single to get things going in the fifth, and Potatoes knocks a three run shot off of alexander in the 6th to lead Cali to a 4-3 win....madlock makes waves late with a homerun in the 9th...but chester cant follow suit so the halos grab the early lead...

Game Two-- another great duel between Sutton and Morris...we go scoreless through 6, when once again, bob boone comes to bat...hits one into the black thing to give the halos a 2-0 lead in the game, as well as in the series...as the tigers rally once again falls short...angels win 2-1

Game Three--  Witt is a bit more hittable this game, but not too much...he is owning, absolutely destroying Mr Six, and leaves the game after 7 with a 3-0 lead....Wilfong leads off with a homer for the angels...boone knocks in a run and corbet comes in a shuts down the angels, allowing only a charity shot by evans, his first hit of the series, and the angels win 4-2....take a commanding 3-0 lead in the series...and things are ugly in hockey town....chester leaves 2 on in the 9th....

Game Four-- Wilfong again leads off with a homer...but the tigers answer with 2 of their own in the first on a 2 run dinger by evans....the angels tie it up on a homer by potatoes, and forge ahead on the heels of a 2 run blast by none other than the new mr october, bob boone....undaunted, the tigers bats come alive a bit, putting up four runs over the next 4 innings and take a 6-4 lead into the 8th....burger king takes the mound...calmy retires two before a single by dickie schofield....then comes up bob boone...who on a 0-2 pitch sends a shot into the left field bleachers, his third of the series, a huge shot to send it to extra frames...donnie moore comes in the shut down the tigers the rest of the way...and the teams battle it out into the 13th...where with 1 down and nobody on, darrell evans hits a shot deep into the night, his 3rd homer of the series to give the tigers the win...and breathe new life into this team....

Game Five-- a complete onslaught by the tigers...evans homers and starts a string of 5 consecutive at bats with a home run, the tigers win 10-0 in 7 to force the game back to detroit...

Game Six-- Many believed the excitement of game 4 could not be matched, but they did it here....t, getting flustered as his team seemed overmatched again...getting down 7-2 in the 5th innning....evans hitting the tar out of the ball...morris cruising...but with no one out and 2 on in the sixth, rupert jones puts one into the black thing to cut the lead to 7-5....after back to back hits by schofield and boone and sacrifice by burlson...wifong hits a shot into right to drive in two and tie the game...two batters later, meat takes a shot into right to give the angels a 9-7 lead and seemingly the momentum in the series again....matty nokes makes a chink in the lead with a homer in the bottom half of the inning...but corbet comes in to shut down the angels the rest of the way into the 9th....leading off, mike heath, a professional hitter and the best pinch hitter in the game, comes through with a giant hit to put a runner on....after an allan trammell pop up, kirk gibbson came up to the plate, a took a 1 strike donnie moore fastball into the night...driving the detroit fans crazy and tying the series up at 3 a piece....

Game Seven-- The story of this game, Darrel Evans....retired by witt the first time he was up...hits 3 homers and drives in 4 of the 6 detroit runs as they storm back from 3-0 down to win game seven 6-1....the angels seemed to have the wind taken out from behind them....the bats were silent, save bob boone...who picked up 3 more hits in the game....but they couldnt put anything together....the series ended on t running into a ridiculous double play as on a hit with one on and one out, i caught him in a run down at third with my second basemen, tagged that man out...t got greedy and started for the vacant second base, i ran towards it, t retreated and was thrown out at first...rally over, inning over, series over....

sorry this is a long one, but this thing took about 3 hours to complete (phone call in the middle) and we may never have one of these again....

That is a most impressive series!  Bob Boone is money, I think I'll leave him in next time I play curves...

So do you guys alternate starters when you play the series?

Keep up the good work...

I like it, nice series, swithcing starters off is the way to do it. How did you pick the teams to use? Seems to me that in Curves Detroit is much better than Cali.

Thanks for the support guys...ive played a lot of curve series', but i dont think i'll ever see another one where a player hits 10 homeruns like mr six did...remarkable...two of the best games me and t have ever had as well...all in one series...

we do alternate the starters, and you can only use one per game...you can start a reliever and bring in the starter, but no two starters in one game..we also alternate between being home and away....2-2-1-1-1...the home field atvantage isnt all its cracked up to be, but we still do it....

as far as picking teams go, we usually just pick them ourselves..we've ocassionally gone for the random, no look picks....or we do matchups, like houston vs st louis or red sox vs mets...but it all depends....my heart lies with the tigers...and t has been using the angels alot lately....those are the two best teams out there for my money....the matchups are usually pretty even, given t isnt a stubborn bastard and picks the cardinals...cause usually, he just doesnt have enough juice to beat the upper eichilon teams...

For the past two months I've led a life completely void of RBI baseball.  It would appear as though the University has been closed down, my tuition will not be refunded and one of the teachers has seemingly been on strike.  I can only imagine how lost my Chowds feel.  "Wheres Skip?" they'll wonder as I wander aimlessly around my parents house in CT, hoping that an NES complete with RBI game will appear in my room at some point in the near future.

What to do?  Move back to Worcester? or just live vicariously through all you fine people on the Dee-Nee forum...as of now, the former seems impossible unless we can avenge the death of our fallen comrade, 18 jones street.

Will I come back into this one horse town?  who knows.  Hopefull we'll see you soon.
