OK, I have written (sort of) my first Mozilla Firefox extension. It basically adds links to most of the dee-nee sites via the right-click menu. To install:
1) Use Mozilla Firefox (from 0.9 through Deer Park Alpha 2)
2) Click here --> http://dee-nee.com/rbi/media.shtml#MISC
3) Click on the Dee-Nee Firefox Extension
4) Click "edit options" in the upper-right corner
5) Allow access for dee-nee.com and click the link again
6) Wait for the warning and click install
7) Close firefox and open it up
That's it! You should be able to right-click anywhere on a page that's empty and see an option for "Dee-Nee" - it'll be just below stop.
I'm asking that all Dee-Nee Firefox users will test this bad boy out for me. If you aren't using Firefox at home, what are you waiting for?
It doesn't seem to work... it just gives me the "Search web for program/Select program from list" box when I try to open it.
Gotta get the webserver to pass the right MIME type for xpi, give me a few. Sorry, didn't really expect someone to try it at 4:30am - god bless dee-nee
OK, it should be working now... You may have to edit the options and add dee-nee to your trusted sites list. You'll know if you see a big yellow bar at the top after clicking on the link.
Jerry - Also note this extension is only for Mozilla Firefox and not Internet Explorer. From the "search web for program" box you got, I would guess you aren't using Firefox. Could be wrong tho...
I do have Firefox, Gantry. I don't know why it isn't working, though.
Edit - Removed, this did not work...
ok fuck that idea, something to do with the forum software opening in new tabs, me thinks. Go here:
http://dee-nee.com/rbi/media.shtml
Then download the firefox extenson at the bottom, under Misc.
BOOYAH!
Excellent job, Gantry. :)
Thank you sir, appreciate all the help getting it going!
Version 0.2 is now up. Most changes are under the hood and won't be noticed. If Jerry or anyone has installed this extension before the time of this post, they have to go to Tools --> Extensions and uninstall the old one first. In the future you won't have to uninstall, but for this one you do...
Did you do this while drinking last night?
works great
Worked for me. good work fine sir.
Two minor things...
1. In the "About Dee-Nee Menu", it still says version 0.1
2. In the "Forum Boards" context menu, both RBI Baseball and Fantasy Sport use the r as the "hot" letter.
Forgot to mention...
Very cool.
Good eye Lips... There are three separate places to update the versions, so I tend to forget doing them all when making an update. Two I know what they do (one shows up in
Tools-->Extensions and the other in the
About Dee-Nee Menu) but the other is as of yet unknown. Gotta get all this shiznit down....
New version ready with Lipitz's changes...
Release Notes for 0.2.1- Updated "About Dee-Nee Menu" to proper version
- Changed Hot Key for Fantasy Sports Menu
- Updated unknown contents.rdf version to proper ver
- Changed MaxVersion from 1.2 to 1.5+, which will mean it won't break when Deer Park is officially released
Next up is to make the server portion work with updates, meaning you can actually click update in Tools-->Extensions and get the latest version from dee-nee. For now you have to click on the file on the media page...
Updates now works! You have to go to the media page and install the extension one last time. You don't have to uninstall the old version first. After that you can update one of three ways:
1) Let firefox autocheck and install when it notifies you. It checks once a day for updates and puts a colored arrow in the upper-right corner. Click the arrow and it'll tell you of all the updates. For those of you don't do this, it's VERY important that you install any updates with a red arrow. They are critical security updates...
2) Go to Help --> Check For Updates at any time
3) Highlight Dee-Nee Menu in Tools --> Extensions at any time and click Update.
Next on the plate is adding an RBI graphic to the extension page
Release Notes for 0.2.5
1) Added Icon for Tools-->Extensions menu.
2) Added Larger Icon for About Dee-Nee Menu window
That's probably one of the last big updates for this. This one was more to get my feet wet, I want to write either a new version of DictionarySearch or enhance the other one. Not sure which yet...
This all sounds a little crazy Gantry. How do I know you're not a Wumpst in Gantry's clothing?
