Title: Uncle Jesse axed
Post by: BeefMaster on 08/26/03, 04:17:34 PM
According to ESPN.com, Jesse Orosco has been "designated for assignment" by the Yankees: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1603597 (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1603597)

For those of you unclear on what exactly this entails (as I was), it basically means that they're freeing up his roster spot before deciding exactly what to do with him.  In Jesse's case, they'll probably waive him, try to trade him if he gets through waivers, and release him otherwise.

My bet is on him ending up in Kansas City - they're a mediocre team in a tight race on a tight budget, and I think they'd jump at the chance to pick up a bona fide major league pitcher on the cheap.

On an unrelated note, I find it amusing that the Yankees not only sent Jeff Weaver to the minors, but they sent him all the way down to class A.  Ouch.

Jeff Weaver sucks.  I am freaking outraged about Orosco.  What are they thinking.  That guy is a World Series waiting to happen.

The Yankees suck.  I hate them and wish nothing but ill will upon them and their legions of fair weather, bandwagon fans.  I despise all things New York.  ALL THINGS.

Mike D despises me!  Waaaaa!

Jeff Weaver is terrible.  I saw a commercial with him on the YES network and he sounded like a fuckin' retard.  I"m sure he's a smart guy but he just seemed stupid.  He always makes excuses after bad starts and blames everything and everyone, but never blames himself.

"I made good pitches and they hit them.   I made great pitches and they hit them.  It seemed the better I pitched the better they hit."  That's an actual quote from Weaver after giving up about 30 runs in two innings.  Ridiculous.

Mike D, dont' be so hard on us Yankee fans.  Some of us are fairweather but some, like me, have been bred to be a Yankee fan, the same way you've been bred to be a Sox fan.

That surprises me.  I guess they've been short a lefty releiver since Johan Santana moved into the rotation, so it does make sense.  Anyway, I'm never going to argue with my team picking up Orosco.

As alternate logic, it could be that since the Vikings didn't bring back Gary Anderson this year, the Twins figured they should have the oldest player in their league to make up for it.  That or they're looking for some RBI karma.
