Title: Vote for RBI at Boston.com
Post by: Ogie Oglethorp on 08/22/05, 11:34:39 PM
This site is amazing. The take on Al Pedrique alone deserves some sort of award.

Boston.com (Boston Globe) is having an all-time greatest sports video game tourney and RBI made it through the first round with landslide victory against Fight Night. Now our rotund little white friends are up against NHL 94 and we face an uphill battle.

http://www.boston.com/sports/lighter_side/greatest_sports_videogame/

On a side note, I'd like to see more love for Howard Johnson and some mention on the complete and udder suckiness of Willie Randolph.

Keep up the great work!

What a tough matchup.

NHL is a great game. Of course I voted for RBI. We need Dee-nee to move this vote in favor of RBI

We have over 100 fairly active members.  We should at least be able to push the votes to 50/50 by the end of today.  When I voted, RBI only had 35% of the votes, but there was only 296 votes cast.

3222 votes are in so far:

NHL '94  64.5%
RBI Baseball  35.5%

ouch!  we need the next 900 or so votes just to stay even

I voted in both mozilla and IE (I am afraid to open IE anymore but I did itfor RBI).

I will now post a link to a baseball site that gets hundreds of thousands of hits a day hoping to boost RBI's totals.

Hopefully this helps!

That puhl isn't very well made.  How did rc pro am sneak in there, and what's a panatly?  I also liked how he said that RBI was a lifestyle, I can't imagine where he picked up a phrase like that.

You're kidding. That's good web design right there.

Who wants to combine anon proxies with cookie-borking and get a few thousand votes for RBI? Ok, I don't do that sort of thing, but someone should.

I think it might leave a cookie if you vote or something.  Not only can you use IE & Mozilla, but you can vote with IE/Mozilla from machines behind the same NAT router...

Front page update is made, I'm hoping we can make more of a dent...

I voted rbi, but its done for. I understand how NHL is gonna win, its a pretty solid game, but no RBI. Anyways, I see a Punch Out-Tecmo Bowl championship.

I am guessing if this Boston.com site had a more national appeal, RBI would be winning hands-down.  I am guessing it is a Boston-based site, so this could be tough.  How can those Bostoners not support RBI when the Sox have such a prominent place in the RBI-world?  Is this their way at seeking retribution against Bucknr?

Tecmo Bowl
  53.3%
Madden
  46.7%
Total votes: 7204

Yee-Haw, Tecmo is starting to increase da lead.  the choke hold is locked in.  Suck a dong john madden o chong.

TBT is very pleased.  Im thinking Tecmo can whoop NHL in the semis.  Id like to see a commanding slaughter there.  I'm certain Tyson makes it from the other side.

Title: Re: Vote for RBI at Boston.com
Post by: nomaaa on 08/26/05, 05:59:42 PM
two things:

1. it's a crying shame r.b.i. is down in the poll, i voted eight or nine times, but with almost eight grand votes, it's like ripping a page out of war & peace.

2. tecmo super bowl is like caddyshack II: over the top and unneeded.
like r.b.i. it only had teams that made the playoffs, and though simple, was all you needed. with a bajillion plays, defense was more troublesome than wanted, and  although the fumble thing was a nice touch, why ruin an original?

Just read all of the message boards, where there was a "TBT" fellow chiming in about Tecmo and RBI...

Isn't NHL 94 the one where you could score just about everytime by coming from behind the net, then across the middle of the goal and shooting?

I think that NHL 94's resident forum computer whiz simply had the gall to rig it.

I don't think its rigged at all.  NHL94 was a kick ass game.  It also has a big advantage because of the year it was released.  Rbi, Tecmo Bowl, Tyson, etc have a handicap because most of the kids of today have never been exposed to them (or if they have, they don't appreciate them becasue the graphics aren't any good).  And the newer games like Tiger Woods and the new Madden are deemed too "new school" for us classic gamers.  NHL94 was appreciated by the classic gamers and was one of the first great sports games to usher in the new EA Sports dominated era.  It may not be the greatest sports game, but its more universally beloved because of the pure exposure to it...and don't forget the Hockey series also gained some street cred from its appearances in Swingers and Chasing Amy.
