I am logged in here today to announce that i am suspending myself from all RBI competition for 5 days effective 5:26 pm Eastern standrad time on October 1st 2003. Here is the reason. Here at 587 Graham place we play curve pitch. The current Champ draws from our cup of chips. each chip has one of the 8 teams (No All-stars in Championship competition here) and a blue chip which lets you pick whatever team you like. Current champ Richard Stein drew Houston. I drew New York. Now on any other day the RBI crown ( a burger king crown with the RBI opening screen taped on it) would have been mine. NOT TODAY. Richie leads off the game with a god damned billy hatcher homerun off of the Doc. then a couple hits and Geena Davis jacks a 3 run shot. I gave up 4 runs in the first inning against houston. ended up losing the game 6-2. After the game there was a short press conference here at 587 and i was officially suspended. But dont think i wont be coming back with something to prove ladies.
Brock (worst RBIer ever)
I know this doesnt make it ok that i lost to Houston. But Richie is the current player of the week. We have madden franchise, RBI champs. Rock scissor paper tournaments, Tiger woods golf champs. But richie pulled out player of the week. He is a tough competitor. Please be easy on me.
I was actually witness for this game...and it was trully pathetic...maybe the worst RBI performance since...well....ever.....On a lucky side not though.....I did get to witness a Billy Hatcher Homer....which is nice....
Oh, and dont let Briz fool you....I took the RBI crown from Dick with a thrashing 7-2 score with MInnesota against the Angels....
Everyone goes through RBI slumps once in a while. The only way to bust out of it is to keep playing. Best of luck Briz.
Yeah, don't let it get you down too much. Others have mentioned that with Nolan Ryan at the mound, Houston can compete...
You should take a pic of that crown, most curious...
Yeah, I'm dying to see that crown.
And the chip thing is genius. We've always just looked away and counted down. I'm switching to the chips immediately.
Everyone goes through slumps and I'm mired in one right now. I can't beat my buddy Chubbs right now. Last week he swept me in a 5 game series. Last night He took me 4-1 in a 7 game series. And the losses were ugly. I haven't thrown my controller that much in years. Thank God I was shitfaced otherwise I wouldn't have slept.
I can't believe Billy Hatcher went yard. Why they hell was he in? Billy hits the weakest bombs.
Another good method we stole from the Pines family and Joe was to use an 8-sided die. Works very well...
Grab a 10-sided die if you use All Star teams. Can be found at your local geek RPG shop...
Houston (in curve style) is able to compete with the other teams as long as your pitching is strong. Ryan/Scott are excellent pitchers, and honestly I like Scott better, because I'm good with the sinker (splooge). I'm not saying Houston is great, but they can compete with the weaker teams.
As for your team, I don't particularly like the Mets. It may be because my friend ALWAYS takes them. So either I'm sick of beating them, or I know their weaknesses well enough. Leave the bases empty for or pitch around Straw & Carter (& the pinch hitters). Take lots of pitches from Gooden.
My analysis is that you never got over that Hatcher home run, like the 90 As never got over that Kirk Gibson homer off of Eck.
Mike
Houston can be competitive but that's it. And by that I mean they still lose. You can keep it close with the pitching but the lack of punch on offense is usually too difficult to overcome. If you're gonna win with Houston you have no margin for error while pitching, which makes for a very stressful game.
Some people use Houston differently. Leaving Hatcher in is a big mistake, as is letting Reynolds Wrap and Ashby play. If the pinch hitters come in they can dominate. But as we all know, this isn't always the case.
Billy hatcher went yard right after my dumbass roomate (GoReds) said to Dick "You are letting billy hatcher play huh?" Dick had a gut feeling and then 2 pitches later. Gone. and it was a good one too. i think it almost went out of the stadium.
Yes I will keep playing but i felt that this suspension would give me the motivation that i need to turn this around. Also about the poker chip method. We... or i should say I, have found that you can be really streaky on who you pull. I am gonna gues i got Houston a good 4 or 5 times in a row once. but then Got the Blue Chip a couple times in a row later.
The RBI crown is shown below. It may look cheap but by god everyone dreams of hold it as their own. For our madden franchise we also made a Mini - Lombardi trophy out of a mini nerf football and a cut up pizza box. Its spray painted chrome with the Madden Super Bowl champ on there. Ill add that on the next post. I know it doesnt have to do with RBI but i think our work needs to be seen. Also if anyone is interested to see our Rock-Scissor-Paper trophy Ill attach that bad boy later.
Wow.... my bad guys. Little help on getting that beast down sized a little. If you need to delete it Ill add it again soon. But here is out Madden trophy.
Houston, even in curve style isnt competitive....
The lack of O is just dispicable....And personally I think this could be quite possibly the biggest tragedy of RBI baseball.......the fact is...Houston made the NLCS against the Mets and took em to 7 games with one of the greatest playoff series ever.....Mike Scott was generally unstoppable in the series...yet Houston is the red headed step child of RBI..the team cannot play with anyone...one run and the game is normally over....personally when playing against Houston..who I HAVE lost to in the past...I am dissappointed ever giving up more than one run in a game...or more than one hit in any given inning...
What is that doing on your bed? (I hope that is your bed)
???
That is a stuffed teddy bear named Keg. I wasnt feeling too terribly motivated to clean that day so i threw the trophy up there with everything else and snapped a photo.
Oh yeah and "GoReds" stop being involved with this forum. Its bad enough i have to live with you. Then you have to go and ruin everything i try to enjoy outside the apartment.
Brock
As Briznock's good roommate (And the man who scored 6 runs with Houston) I'd like to say that he did put up a fight with the Mets. The Mets have always been my nemesis and I have playing them. My gut feeling with Billy Hatcher was absolutely correct and Mike Scott threw a 7 inning gem before being relieved by Nolan (another hunch). And I can verify that he does have a teddy bear on his bed. ( He couldn't be any less straight).

hahahahahahahaha. we missed this the 2nd time around that briz posted this.
I don't think Houston is as bad as everyone says. They have arguably the best pitching staff in the league. Lopes, Cruz, Garner, GDavis, Bass, Doran, Puhl, Ashby, Pitcher can score 3-4 runs, and that's all Ryan etc. need.
My feelings about Houston have changed dramatically...If you dont get hung up with baserunning mistakes, they can compete with any team in the game in ATG.
Okay, then what teams are worse than Ho?

I'd play with Houston before NY SF StL and Mn...
Clarify. The fact that you'd "play with Ho before Ny, Sf, Sl, and Mn," certainly means you like Ho better, but does it mean you think Ho is better than those teams? That would put Ho 6th best at worst.

Yeah I think my rankings would go...(ATG, 2SP, Infield Fly)
Bo
Ca
Dt
Ho
Mn
Sf
StL
NY
Thats top to bottom from whom I think is best to worst.
You're not that far from OH...let's play for some money sometime! :)

Your reputation as a dirty cheater makes me think twice about this...
I cant say I've ever really gambled on RBI, and actually TBT says you are about as good as anyone on earth...so of course I'd love to play you, but could in no way just go into this betting blindly...
Okay, then I'll give you your 6th best team and you can chose my team!
all this houston talk is crazy.
yes Hou has a pretty nice staff. tons of stamina and skill.
However, Tengen field is a phone booth. Houston can actually be pitched to on a regular basis. I think occasionally Hou can hang with the big teams for a game or 2, but not very often. *edit*. a 4-1, or 4-2 loss to Det/Bos is not what i would consider hanging with either. Especially if Hou gets down by 3 or more runs at any time during the game. Hou would need to hold those team regularily to 2 runs, occasionally 3 to have a shot.
even against SF, NY, MIN theres just enuf hitters there that u will get burnt sooner or later. Over a best of 7, i'll take those teams before Hou. Im not saying they cant compete, but i am saying that they are inferior in the long run. sooner or later thier offensive ineptitudes will be your demise. There was the guy who threw a no-hitter at the cotut with Hou vs STL, but he was probably lucky to an extent if he pitched to Jack Clark all 3 times. Thats why Hou is a bottom feeder to me.
Octo played some amazing ball with Min today, I was Detroit.
It was a quick series, and we were both in relative rushes (I had just woken up from a nap), but that doesn't change the fact that Octo smacked out 7 home runs (including three with Laudner) in the second game of the series en route to a 15-1 slaughter in 8 innings (the game was 4-1 until giving up eleven runs in the 7th and 8th innings, including five off of a fresh Hernandez).
Minnesota's good.
15-1. ouch. ive never been clobered like that, but would guess that A LOT of things went horribly wrong in that game/inning(on top of the 7 homers).
I have given up 10 or 11 runs before in a game. it's not a nice feeling at all to be lambasted like that.
I also leave hatcher in. fuck it, he's fast and i pray to the lord host of the horry neatherworld that it will translate to 1 stinking run during a game.
Lopes almost always takes the spot in the order right after Bass.
I like using Hou. I can put up 6-9 runs with them on anyone....anytime. I do use a different hitting approach with them. I never try for the long ball with them. Everything is up the middle. Hou is a basehit/gap hitting team. And they can cause the most havoc on the basepaths. Of course, it all comes down to pitching.
Hou can compete with anyone if you have mastered all the disciplines of pitching and hitting. They play a different game, and if you can get an early lead with Hou, then it becomes that much easier.
Anybody who says that they can put up 6-9 runs with Ho on anyone clearly hasn't played at the highest level.

Fact: I have better hand eye coordination.
Fact: That makes me a better hitter.
Fact: I am the only dee nee member to have played professional baseball.
Shut the fuck up with playing the professional baseball card already!

Wow. Getting a bit personal there guy. Somebody seems insecure there.
I am just stating my case why I would have the best hand eye cordination. That's all. You make it to what ever you want it to be.
How am I getting personal? I'm saying that you play the prof. baseball card thing too much...
Anyway, come to the OH tourney and clean up, if you're so good!

I'll take the rest of this to the national tourney thread.
Darkside is that guy who brags so much about how good he is, that he cant actually be worth a shit...
also....how does playing baseball make you a better video game player?? The hand eye thing is horseshit....I guarantee my reflexes are sharper than yours are, and they've been developed solely through playing video games....

Then sign up for the National Tourney if your so confident. Yeah, lets wait and see the competition, then maybe I'll sign up if I think I have a chance.
To me, that is a sign of an insecure player who does not believe in his RBI abilities.
That is my opinion, and it is an honest one. That's it.
I'm not out here saying Im the best ever, or that my hand eye coordination is sharper than anyone else on dee nee because I play what is equal to high school baseball in sweden either....

guilty. i need to get some games in against people sometime soon.
I think the last 3 times I've played against people was all Dee-Nee members, Dirt in Fall of '05 and again in the summer of '06, then at Chicago Dee-Nee fest I played a few people (Strassy, Lips, Nightwulf, and maybe Nacho). Probably about 15 games over the last 3 years
